Didn't look at MD5, but compared complete hex dumps of both files. BBEdit tells me they're identical, at least, and I trusted it. :)

Ok but i'm sorry the file that i've attached with md5 8b08d234f3722a96bc198ff3be8b745b is the right EFIROM for the 4870 card that poopdedoop upload the original ROM in post #105 and if The Rominator and Cindori supplied the file with the same md5 they are also the right EFIROM. But apparently you don't like md5.

What i wanted to tell you about your mac_modified.rom is the following:

There are 2 MCuC, the last one is located in your file at 1B9FE while the address indicated 7 octets before the first MCuC is 1B800, IMHO it can't work.

Good luck

I've got no beef with MD5 checksums. I just had BBEdit open already with hex dumps of both files in it, and it was trivial to hit "compare" and see that they were identical. Either method should work fine though.

And yeah, as far as my poor little lost brain can tell, it *IS* the right ROM for the card that Poopdepoop and Justit and I have. But for some reason it is not working for us.

The ROM that I made had several problems, and was doomed not to work, as I discovered upon further reading. Sadly, that further reading has left me convinced that the ROM that you and Cindori and Rominator have all suggested should work, at least according to everything that everyone in the flashing community knows. I'm completely bewildered as to why it would not. Thanks to everyone who has tried to help!

the 4890 XFX ZDFC was reported to work here but then reported to fail here using the same rom.

later we discovered that revision of card had changed from 5.3 to 5.4 and that brought difference in ROM, but the model number stayed the same.

so basically:
if you have a card, but flashing with the correct rom does not work,
your card is probably new revision and a new rom has to be written for it.

that is why it's good to backup original rom first.

Yeah, I wish I could have backed up my ROM, just to be sure. The thing that's so confusing for me is that Poopdepoop is having the same problem as me, and bought his card from Newegg just like I did but *after* I did, and DID back up his ROM, and it's *identical* to the old ROM.

So (and I don't expect proper answers to these questions, I'm just wondering into the void of the internet... :D ) if Poopdepoop has the same ROM as the ROM that Cindori and Rominator and Peloche worked their magic on, why doesn't the modified ROM work for him? And if he bought his card from the same vendor slightly later than I did, and is having the same problems I am, isn't it very likely that we have the same version? I guess there's no way of answering that second question ever, unless somebody else comes along with a different ROM from a Sapphire HD 4870 1GB that *does* work with my card. And the first question just makes me want to yell and punch holes in walls. :D

jedsinger if it's not too much complicated, could you try the attached rom and report please.

md5 (again md5..)

No luck, Peloche - but thank you so much for trying!
Sorry for you jedsinger.

I'm not able to answer to your question , but i could imagine IMveryHO :p that Netkas Pipomolo42 and The Rominator when they started they played with a 4870 512 MB, which was equipped with the same amount of memory as Apple 4870, they made it to work :D, after Netkas worked on 4890 equipped with 1 GB memory and mod EFI to work with 1 Gb on 4890.
So we are trying to sew EFI for 4870 512 MB to a 4870 1 GB VGABIOS and you know the results.
This is my very very humble opinion only, it is not linked to any technical findings, in fact i believe that only Netkas could mod the EFI for a 4870 equipped with 1 GB.

PS: You can read the above text but don't consider it too much :D

it was pipmolo that enabled 1GB 4870's - he simply sewed efi from apple 512 but then applied gddr table from 1gb rom

Thanks for the information Cindori.

Out of the subject, In Sweden do you have 110 V or 220 V ?

I'm looking for an Husqvarna machine and it's everywhere 110 V except onto ebay where it says 220 V but few lines after it's 110 V motor :D

220v

do you think that your EFIROM guide will work on 512mb cards also?

Thanks,

I'm not sure i've tried with poopdedoop stock rom to make it :

First with Apple EFIROM as you and The Rominator tried, doesn't work

Second i've tried with pc4890.rom from Netkas, doesn't work

So I don't know, Netkas should help us about this matter :D

Just want to report another success with the HIS H489F1GP HD 4890. :D It was painfully easy to flash and reboot – and it's soooo much faster than my 7300 GT. Cindori, you're awesome. I'll have to contribute to your candy jar sooner or later.

Is there a list of cards that work well or something?

I've read that the New Edition Sapphire w/ Displayport doesn't work in windows, which is bad. I need a card that will perform well in both Windows and OSX.

I'm looking at the "old" edition (or at least I think it is): http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102852

Will this card work without issues?

Hi ventro,

If you want to know more about New Edition Sapphire go to my signature link

Guys, should I just return my 1GB Saphire 4870 which is a newer line (P/N: FC00125-R0 and then 2B932C1) that no one seems to be able to flash?

52835.jpg

The newer 4890 Saphire version is $20 more and from what I've read has been successfuly flashed. At this point I don't see any advantages to getting the 4870 which I thought ran cooler/more silent than the 4890.

If anyone can assure me that there is hope for this newer 4870, I will try to get my hands on a desktop PC and provide virgin ROMs as I still don't have cables yet.

have you tried roms in the ROM pkg in main post?

if you can get ahold of that sapphire 4890 card with the girl on, you'r lucky, cause that's the Golden copy, gives no errors what so ever.

if you give me your original ROM i will try make rom for you

Justit, there is hope. Not a guarantee, but if I had a ROM we would at least know if the problems are due to a new ROM (in which case we would probably be fine, just need to splice in the EFI firmware) or to something more nefarious, in which case we are maybe out of luck.

For me, at least, the advantage of a 4870 over a 4890 is that there is no need to hack the OS to get the card recognized. It is not a big deal, but I like not having to worry about it each time I update the OS.

had the 4870 that justit posted. i got it flashed and working in os x just fine. the card itself was faulty so i had to return it.

I have another one, that's the same sku, but the custom roms don't work.

I noticed someone edited the rom i posted, but i guess it was done wrong? Maybe The Rominator could take a look at it?

Poopdepoop, would it be possible for you to post the original ROM for the new one you got? Did you save it before you flashed it? It seems like they very recently changed something...

Nuts, poop. I had thought (hoped?) the one you posted earlier was from your first card. If this is from your second card, and your second card isn't working with the ROM that Rominator made (the one included in Cindori's tool), which is also identical to the ROM that a couple other folks have made, I must return to my cave of cluelessness... :(

No i didn't get a chance to backup the rom in the old card, (i knew i should have) but the card was faulty, so i don't know if the rom was good or not in the first place.
