I know that ppl using netkas.pkg from start also have had to reapply OSX update and then do qeci pkg again.

What I want is someone to try

patch through ati flashing tool
if error:
re apply osx update
patch through ati flashing tool again

work? yes/no
yes=nothing wrong with my script
no=error with my script, = I can start fixing

Have done exactly as you asked, problem persists. Have retuned to netkas package.

It must be your script.

tried to atiflash my 4870 and.... 0, nada nothing!

I tried a few times today,

I once got a blue screen with a white square that movied like it was the mouse!

The other times i got black screens, and for some reason almost everytime, my cards fan would scremmm! so loud and go full blast, then there was a red light that came on somewhere but could not see it clearly.

A few times the fan did not screamm, but only once did i ever get a screen that was blue, like i said before,

what could be the problem? I installed the natit, hooked up the 4870 in slot 1 and nothing ever flashed, i also tried boeglins and it kept telling me:

sudo kextutil -nt ATIROMFlasher.kext coud not be found or something else, but it would never work!

What do you think it could be?

thanks

Advancement, but no success

Cindori, I was able to get the card working through Natit by using the attached modification. Turns out that the version of Natit you had used has a different BIOS for the 4870 than the one on the newer Sapphires. I replaced it with the new one.

However, when I tried to actually flash the card, no luck. It took almost 20 seconds, said flashing complete... I removed Natit, rebooted, and... Black screen!

That said, anyone else with a Sapphire HD 4870, SKU 11133-19-20R, version 100279-1GL should be able to use the attached package to boot from that card with Natit. Since this whole flashing business still hasn't worked for me, I can't help there...

bah, I just made you pkg

http://groths.se/atiflashingtool/sapphire_4870_new.zip

remove your link. it contains 4890 rom.

try with mine. (ofc you only need the rom)

Thank you for your work!
The link in my post contains the Natit that I modified; it doesn't contain any ROM. The Natit in your link does not quite work with this card; there's a blank pale blue screen for a couple minutes, and then the screen turns very garbled - a bunch of flickering beige noise with flecks and spots. My Natit, however, does work; I'm typing this message under it!

The ROM that you included is identical to the one that I flashed with - it's the one Rominator made for zvon and a couple other folks, and it worked for them. I have no idea why it's not working for me. I will experiment more when I get home from work...

Thanks again!

I meant your second package didn't work - sorry! I was trying to make my own rom but having no luck. I have the same card as zvon and so I would expect the same rom would work, but ?
I'm illiterate here... I am at work and so can't upload anything but zvon uploaded his rom in the megathread around post 1985 I think if you want to try something... Anyway thank you somuch for all your effort!

1. read my sig
2. give me card model

I already did this

you replyed to me a few posts back but never gave me any assistance?

zhfc card, 1 gig

never got to teh point of installing any rom, as far as the computer would go was a light blue screen and a white box that moved around when i moved the mouse... if it got that far, basically just a black screen no matter what i did.

card screammmed loud and the fan would blow full blast as well, almost 9 tries outa 10.

yes I know I have zvons rom

but if zvonz card work with the rom in my latest pkg and yours didnt, your card must be different

cards can be revisions with same model number, just different versions like 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 etc. did you backup your original rom your card came with, if so I can check if it's different then zvons, and then the next step would be to sew efi to it.

also did you try card in windows?

you have to understand... since I got home ~15.00 until 19.00 I've been helping ppl with their cards. macrumors is not the only mac pro forum I am active on.

what you should rely on if a problem appears is not my assistance, it is your own will to solve (read, search) problems. 80% of stuff I write is often the same stuff written 10 pages back in the same thread.

so, cross forums, cross threads, people writing, I can have no clue about their models, OS, computer, favorite color or whatnot.

if you expect assistance, please provide sufficient information (such as card type, model, manufacturer, operative system) in every post, or better yet, put in sig.

congrats, you are the first person to report trouble with The Golden 4870

At least a dozen other people had no trouble whatsoever

it is either 1 of 2 things:

1. Your card is flawed...test in WIndows with original ROM and find out

2. You are singularly unable to read and follow instructions

"I tried everything, it didn't work" doesn't help us.

The rom and instructions in the jacobsoft link is ALL you need......combine with Cindori's app if you have the ability to figure out Natit, if not, use DOS.

hey so I've got my new card working in windows, but natit doesn't seem to work for my card.

I was wondering if I can just flash the bios while in windows?instead of using your tool? Also, how would I go about making a custom rom? I think i might have a better chance with a modified one than one from someone elses card.

I'm not too sure how to make a modded one, but i'll try. If someone could be nice enought to make one for me, that would save me a lot of stress in worrying about bricking my card. I've attaced the original bios file saved from gpu-z.

Poopdepoop, use my Natit. Your ROM file is *exactly* the same as the one from zvon and everyone else, that's included with Cindori's lovely tool.

Also, please let me know if you get it successfully flashed.

Cindori, I don't have my original ROM file - hindsight is 20/20, but I figured if several people have the exact same card as me and it works for them, it should work for me too. I didn't know about those different revisions, and I don't have access to a Windows machine - so I couldn't save the ROM before I started, and I can't test the card on Windows now. However, it's working perfectly with Natit, which only uses the first half of the ROM (which is what I understand is the BIOS, used by Windows), which leads me to believe that it would also work fine with Windows.

I wonder if there might be something else going on, though, because Poopdepoop bought the same card from the same place (newegg.com) a few days after I did, and zvon et al. bought the same card a few days before I did. And they all have exactly the same ROM. Seems weird (but possible, I admit!) that I would have a different version in between them.

Poopdepoop, could you please do me a favor and check what the stickers on your card say? There's one on the side of the fan assembly that on mine says "P/N: FC00125-R0" and then "2B932C1" on the next line. These are the only numbers that other people haven't reported. Mine matches everyone else's in every other way.

Thanks all! Poop, I hope my Natit helps you!

I'll try the natit you supplied and get back to you on it.

The sticker on the fan assembly says:

P/N:FC00125-R0

UPDATE: So Natit works, (im in os x posting this right now) but flashing any of the roms provided in Cindori's tool don't work. Or is there an updated one for our cards that we should use?
same as the one you said.

I just got my first base MP two weeks ago. I am still learning what I can upgrade there. Is there a list of compatible 4870 PC cards I can get?

Tentative Sapphire 4870 ROM

Justit or poop, if one of you has the means to go back to the original ROM in case of a total failure, try the attached ROM. It might work - or it might fail spectacularly. So don't use it unless you've got either a Windows installation or a non-ATI video card that would enable you to revert the flash if it doesn't work.

If you do try, please let me know the results. If it doesn't work, I'll try something else...

Cheers!

Edit - what I made won't work, so I removed it. Working on something else now...
