It has been 30 years since popular puzzle game Myst first came out, and to celebrate the anniversary, developer Cyan today announced the launch of a new remastered "Myst Mobile" game that is available for the iPhone and the iPad.

As our sister site TouchArcade notes, there was a prior version of the original Myst game available for iOS devices all the way back in 2009, but this is an updated version that is free to download and play.

Myst can be played on devices that have an A12 chip or later, or an M1 or M2 chip. Cyan says that the game has been optimized for M1 devices and runs supercharged on M2 chips in particular, with graphics that rival console graphics. The game supports keyboards and trackpads, as well as gamepads.

All of Myst Island is accessible for no cost, and those who want to play more can unlock the Ages beyond Myst Island add-on for a one-time purchase of $14.99. There is a launch promotion right now that drops the price down to $9.99.

Myst Mobile can be downloaded from the App Store starting today. [Direct Link]

So just the regular island is free, the other islands are in-app purchases. Got it. It was fun for its time.
The other islands were different games. If I've got it right, this is a promo for the remastered versions of the other games. They were much more involved than the original Myst so $14 seems like a good deal for people who loved the games.

Edit: Oops. It's just the main island. Not much nostalgia there. Oh well, it's a good intro for newbies to the game.

I don’t consider the 14.99 an in app purchase - like coins, upgrades, subscriptions, etc. They aren’t trying to nickel and dime you. If you enjoy the regular island buy the game for a one time 9.99/14.99.

I much prefer this over other app sales practices.

Anyone recall the text only game Zork? I remember seeing a computer & screen in a department store and sat down to explore Zork @ 3PM, after an hour the department store was closing, it was 9PM and dark outside. It was my first experience of the time suck that computers could offer! 😵‍💫👀
