There was something else I can't remember that said it was so old that made me feel like an old man too!How can this game be 30?

Even worse I remember when my one friend was the coolest to have a HDD and not have to swap amongst 8 floppiesFeeling old? When this came out we had to go to this guy in school who was the first kid that had a CD drive on his PC.
ZORK!!! I played them all. And the clue book had the invisible ink with the thre clues that got more specific for each. I even play it sometimes today and try to do it by memory.Anyone recall the text only game Zork? I remember seeing a computer & screen in a department store and sat down to explore Zork @ 3PM, after an hour the department store was closing, it was 9PM and dark outside. It was my first experience of the time suck that computers could offer! 😵💫👀
Played so much IF. HHttG, LGoP. We even played one in gifted in school. I think Temple something. Had to climb the vines into the tower, avoid a rug trap, insert a coln to move the status so it wouldn't shoot you. And DON'T puil the lever!Zork was awesome. Blade of black pool was my first foray into that time suck.
YES! Don't think I even played Space, but definitely a lot on the other two. And Leisure Suit Larry!I would love to see some of the old Sierra games - some good ole Kings Quest/Space Quest or even Police Quest!
I see. I guess while we're at it, there's the tradeoff of being able to play such a game on the go.I know that it works, obviously. I'm just saying I'd much rather play an immersive game like this on a larger screen Mac with mouse and keyboard controls (like I used to play it when it originally came out). I don't care about high resolution.
Wish they still had the books. It's not the same on a website. Especially if I am playing on the PC. Rather have a book than ALT-TABOh man...this game came out when I was in 3rd or 4th grade and took me longer than I care to admit to beat (I used a Performa 550 at the time!). I even had the giant book to help you solve some of the puzzles. Great game, great memories.
At the time, I'm not sure the game was even beatable without the book. Or if it was, it was beyond my 9 year old pea brain.Wish they still had the books. It's not the same on a website. Especially if I am playing on the PC. Rather have a book than ALT-TAB
I found this on my shelf. It has the books and 19 maps. Want it?Wish they still had the books. It's not the same on a website. Especially if I am playing on the PC. Rather have a book than ALT-TAB
I usually could win with minimal hints. But then I'd always do another run literally by the book. And be like how in the freaking world know how to find some of this without the book. But at least it was mostly extra stuff. At the time, I'm not sure the game was even beatable without the book. Or if it was, it was beyond my 9 year old pea brain.
Thanks but I'm good. I never played the Treasures one.I found this on my shelf. It has the books and 19 maps. Want it?
I had the CDROM but I can't find it. Prolly gave it away years ago.

Ah, yes. The days of jumpers and manually assigning IRQ's.Indeed. Myst might have been the game that inspired me to finally install a CD drive in the Gateway 2000, which could take a weekend of troubleshooting in those days.
And the frequent recommendation from tech support (phone calls with long wait times on hold) to reinstall MS-DOS and Windows, using boxes of floppy disks and install updates and drivers (slowly downloaded over a dialup modem).Ah, yes. The days of jumpers and manually assigning IRQ's.
See message #70 in this thread. It has a video comparing the graphics and movement in all the Myst iterations. Is this game the same as realMyst from 2000 or is this another redesign of the game?
It blew my mind when I realized you could actually win the game in less than 15 minutes if you knew the code to the fireplace on the main island (no this is not a spoiler for anyone playing the game!). But then what fun would that be.I usually could win with minimal hints. But then I'd always do another run literally by the book. And be like how in the freaking world know how to find some of this without the book. But at least it was mostly extra stuff.
Right. That's ending the game, not playing the game. I have played several games where even knowing the codes doesn't help. You still have to go through the motions of finding the codes. It blew my mind when I realized you could actually win the game in less than 15 minutes if you knew the code to the fireplace on the main island (no this is not a spoiler for anyone playing the game!). I remember when PnP was the thing, but somehow I got a device that didn't use it yet, and I couldn't figure out why the hardware wouldn't installAh, yes. The days of jumpers and manually assigning IRQ's.
Like it better if they aren't actually using the code that you just have to get to whatever location and do something, and it says you hear a click or scraping stone etc in the distance, and then it is open when you go back.Right. The worst was having like 12 floppies for a program, and on disc 12. "File corrupted" noooooooooooooooooooooooooooAnd the frequent recommendation from tech support (phone calls with long wait times on hold) to reinstall MS-DOS and Windows, using boxes of floppy disks and install updates and drivers (slowly downloaded over a dialup modem).
After one of those adventures I bought a box made of a special metal (mu metal) that protects against stray magnetic fields. Very old disks are still readable. The worst was having like 12 floppies for a program, and on disc 12. "File corrupted" nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I still have home original game maybe even 68040 compatible. Not sure. Never played it. Bought it somewhere cheap from nostalgia haha.I still have it on my G3

"Thanks for playing Zork!"
(or something to that effect)
