Apple still see themselves as a Music company, I just can't see them making all other headphones incompatible, it would like a middle finger to anyone who likes music. It could happen but I just don't think they would do it.

USB had a load of flaws so it made sense for them to do there own version. The headphone jack(or whatever its proper name is) doesn't really have any obvious big flaws.

Fair enough. I hope the iPhone never loses the headphone jack. However you may see that jack one day be only available in iPods. But honestly the iPhone would have to get to less than 5 mm before the headphone jack is in real danger.

9to5Mac just posted this leaked photo which is allegedly an iPhone. If this is accurate it looks like what many of us have supsected - the new iPhone will take cues from the current iPod touch and iPad.

I really like the current iPod design fwiw. Hope this is the direction the new iPhone is going cause i'm on deck for an update this cycle.

If glass back is true it would be very cool. I'm tired of scratched aluminium.

I might like that too. I think the iPhone 4 had the most attractive back of all. It was clean, elegant and durable. (NB: I currently have an iPhone 5 but I always think when I see a naked black iPhone 4 that "damn, that looks pretty good even today")

Well... if it WAS going to get as thin as these concepts are showing, the edges would definitely need to be more rounded or it would hurt to hold something so thin with sharp edges. Apple is doing a really good job at the whole "secrecy" thing this time. I have absolutely no freaking idea what to expect in the iPhone 6, save for the obvious spec bumps/camera improvements/A8 chip.

I used to think that, but now they just look like big paperweights to me.

I don't see the true tone flash on the back though. Would Apple abandon that after only one year? Makes me wonder if this isn't an iPod touch. iPods weren't updated last year. Perhaps the rumored 5"+ phone will actually be a new iPod touch?

After bending my iPhone 5 in my pocket from casual usage for 2 months, this iPhone 6 Air idea sounds terrible. And no, my phone has never dropped, and I don't wear skinny hipster jeans.

When do we get to the point when all our stuff is 'thin' enough?

And once we get there, will Apple be out of ideas on how to innovate their designs?
Thin enough is when it will cut into you if you apply some pressure on the edges.

In short phones will be in your pocket, the thinner and lighter means less bulky phone. However if it gets too thin where it will start ripping a hole, or into your skin, then it reached its max thinness.

I've never understood the "don't make it thinner, make the battery bigger" way of thinking. If you want a bigger iPhone with a bigger battery, why not buy a Mophie case? For those that don't need (or care about) the extra battery life, like myself, thinner is better.

The line between android/android phones and iOS/iPhone is so thin, I'm not sure which is which.

I remember the days when we expected this type of thing from apple

Innovation not equal to change.

Really? technology is supposed to get better, not smaller. Sometimes smaller is better, sometimes it isn't. For millions, a bigger iPhone is a better iPhone.

Actually, smaller is better when it comes to technology. It is at its best when it is completely transparent to the user. So small that you don't even know it's there.

If this is truly the design, I don't see Apple using glass for the rear panel. I think it will be either glass & aluminum mix (like the iPhone 5) or all aluminum. We'll see though.

Why does any make think we want shinny backs still? They get panned almost universally.

These renderings don't look at all like the backs of the phones on that foxconn image.

A sapphire back is interesting as it would allow Apple to move the Touch ID to the rear of the phone and create a large bezel and button free screen. Makes sense

If they are going to make that leap, why not just make the back a screen as well for notifications and such?
