Replacements arriving? I didn't even get my box to ship it back yet.

Same here, all I've been told is it'll take 2 business days (now a week ago) that the courier will arrive to take it away and if I'm not in to give it to the courier that's it, that's my chance gone. I do have to go to work you know, can't sit here all day waiting for the slim possibility of a courier arriving to collect it...

Gotta admit, the original Nano still looks good :p

If I wasn't so reliant on cloud services like Spotify, I would pounce on one in a heartbeat for gym/commute.

For being such an old model, that nano still looks gorgeous!:apple:

I think Apple's worst move was discontinuing the click wheel iPod nano line.

If ever get mine, I might just give it to my mother-in-law for a X-mas present. At least I won't have to spend any money on her.

That's been on every iPod since the first one.

Really? Wasn't on my fifth gen iPod, 2nd gen iPod touch, or fifth gen iPod nano, or iPhone.

It was on the earlier ones.

Would they accept one in pieces? I have one in a drawer thats pretty much destroyed. In my defense it first broke due to the battery. :D

Haven't gotten the box to ship yet.

My screen has leaking ink though. Will I get a fresh replacement or will they just replace the battery and the casing of the one I send them?

In other news will ifixit be doing a tear down? We've seen the insides before.

For all those wanting new iPods, that's just a bit greedy, I love my first gen it's a beautiful design (I still maintain it was the best designed iPod ever), can't you just be happy at the very least you're getting a completely cosmetically clean one that looks utterly brand new, if you're really pissed off about it, sell it once you get it and buy a new iPod Nano...

Yeah it's a total shame that they're replacing potentially hazardous batteries with new devices that are out of warranty. No upside to that at all.

Seriously? The only upside is that Apple is providing you with a new device that won't explode and they are giving you a cleaner newer one with the same capacity.

Entitlement..

Why should people get items in warranty? You should be happy you're getting one replaced at all.

Oh please.. the good artist will always make money from concerts and tours. Its only a question how greedy you want to be. Art should be and art, not a business for some big companies, number of agents.

Did you know that for major label artists, from all 0.99$ sales Apple collects 34 cents and the label keeps 55 cents. 10 cents go to the artist. 10 cents!
go figure..

Yeah, everyone goes to concerts when they haven't bought the music before, artists never give up music for lack of money, and and every major artist was instantly popular right out of the gate. Can i have one of those funny cigarettes you're smoking?

Me too...I was starting to wonder if I may never get it.

Sold mine to my father-in-law. He's getting a new one.

Wow. You really must hate the bastard!

Where is my box? Its been over 4 business days now. And I live only half a mile from where its going.

anyone else find the "dont steal music" weird?

Man you guys must be very late to the game if you've never seen this before. Prior to this iPhone stuff, all iPods had that on the wrapping. Just as my first and second generation Mini did. This was also a time when iPods came with iTunes CDs, and teachers wrote "No I-Pods" on white (or black) boards.

It was also pretty much the time when you knew when a guy had an iPod, they also had a Mac (I was one of the few). There was this no, "Lets buy an iPod/iPhone, and ignore everything else Apple makes" bull there is now ;)

Hell take a look at iPhone 4 headphone wrappings, they state "Listen Responsibly" still.

Just received my return box this afternoon...I'll pack it up and drop it off at FedEx tomorrow. We'll see how long it takes to get the replacement.

Wow, nice attitude you've got.

Without people buying music there would be no music industry, and no professional artists or musicians.

The quality of new music would decline dramatically since all those musicians would have to get other jobs and have no time left to put in 100% into their craft.

It follows that that means there'd also be no iPods, no iPhone and no iPads - since the iTunes store and the iPod paved the way for the rest.

But to hell with that, as long as you can get what you want for free - that's the main thing after all.

Quality is very relative. Currently there are many home-made high quality work and certainly they are using more technology than 70's gear. If you appreciate Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin work, you certainly will be capable of delight yourself with current independent, near-home-made music projects.

Stealing is also relative. iTunes music store is unavailable in Brazil so we have to use our international Credit Cards. Although we are not stealing from Apple when paying through our cards, we can be stealing from our countries sending money to other countries without paying the proper import taxes. When there isn't any legal method of buying music, which is worse: buying illegally or downloading without buying?

Also, high quality, skilled music is not dependent from RIAA members. If you go to a theater and hear a local orchestra you'll understand what I'm saying. Today, music industry is basically providing commercial music for the masses. High quality ones use other means of distribution or don't distribute media at all: their only revenue comes from tours and shows and the digital media is freely distributed.

And, yes, I really agree that the message "do not steal music" is aggressive as there is no consensus about that subject worldwide or the discussion is not so simplistic as the message can suggest.

I got my shipment box about 2 days after I had sent my request.

Btw, love the message on the iPod.
"Don't steal music/No volez pas la musique/Bitte kiene musik stehlen". Does this come on the newer iPods? (haven't bought an iPod in a while so I don't know).

I'm just surprised they either 1) had enough parts to make these refurbished iPod Nanos or 2) re-created these parts to make these refurbished iPod Nanos. Although it's probably the first one, I doubt they would specifically re-make old models.

Imagine some musician finds out that people use iPods to steal music. And he tries to take Apple to court for building iPods that people use to steal music. So Apple goes to court, and shows the judge a brand new iPod with a sticker "don't steal music"! Case closed.
People use iPods to play music, not steal it. The court case wouldn't even get started. Lawyers always win, when will Americans see that?

I am disappointed. However I intend to let all the chumps send in their units and I'll wait until the last possible minute to send mine in. If their stock of refurbs still hasn't run out, WTF are they doing with so much old hardware?

Won't really run out. They will still have every one that was sent in. So only way to run out is if a large chunk of people didn't send theirs in but received one like some people are getting in now.
