I wonder if they’ll have USB-C charging. The little lightning port on the AirPods always looked like the USB-C shape anyway, as if Apple designed it that way and changed their mind at the last second.
2nd gen have a completely different wireless chip.I don’t consider the “2nd Gen” as 2nd generation because they are the same as the 1st Gen, just with a wireless charging case so I think Apple was already gearing up for noise cancelling ones since.
You could buy a bunch of them from Apple and then sell them to others for the price you think is appropriate. You’d lose money on every one, but you would make it up in volume. The newer one should have more or less the same price, I can understand a small hike, the older one should be $99 or less.

Apple wants you to believe that, they *do/did a great job.
*If this rumour is accurate.
The 2nd gen comes in two models, with and without wireless charging. The model without wireless charging has the same price as the first gen.You sure? The second Gen is 229€ here in Germany, the first one was like 180€, so i thought the 3rd Gen is gonna be 260€, cause taxes.
Yeah, so many examples of cancelled products.Rumor mill said the same thing about AirPower. I’ll believe it when I see it SHIPPED, not presented at a Keynote.
somehow you’re missing the other features that justifies the increase in priceJesus Apple, I'm not paying an extra $100 just for the ones that will actually stay in my ears.
i'm still laughing at the homepod 😂For those carping about the price already, I’m sure the standard AirPods will remain available for you and the peasant class.

They laughed at the iPod, they laughed at the iPhone, they laughed at the iPad (remember the feminine napkin jokes), they laughed at the HomePod, they now laugh at the new Mac Pro. Nothing has changed in forty years. Nothing to see see here. Move along.
Jesus Apple, I'm not paying an extra $100 just for the ones that will actually stay in my ears.
Lots of industries do the same thing. In the food industry companies tout "gourmet ingredients" and in construction equipment / power tools companies use the phrase "industrial grade". With that said, Apple needs some way to identify their highest performance item in each product family (iPhone, iPad, laptop, etc.) without making the other items in the product family sound inferior. I kind of like the consistent "Pro" label to identify the best version of each product category. However, I probably won't get the AirPod Pros because I LOVE my PowerBeats Pro earphones![]()
I'm not familiar with marketing. However from a consumer's viewpoint what is happening is that this segmentation is not meant to lower prices, but do the opposite. I don't agree that new technology necessarily costs more. For a long time, iPhones cost the same year by year. Last years components get cheaper so that this years (more expensive) components keep the price about stable.No... The price is raised to accommodate the better technology; ie noise cancellation.
No need to get worked up on "Pro," it's just a label.
If you can't afford or don't need the improved model; no worries, there are other products out there.
Oh, “Pro”, so they’ll have user-replaceable batteries, right?
Uhhhh AirPower was shown off for a year before Apple even decided to cancel such a product. Many features were rumored for different iPhones, according to rumor mills yet when the phones do come out, people complain that it didn’t have said features, considering they were never promised in the first place.Yeah, so many examples of cancelled products.
This wouldn’t be a cancelled product either. There’s a difference between rumors and product announcements from Apple.Uhhhh AirPower was shown off for a year before Apple even decided to cancel such a product. Many features were rumored for different iPhones, according to rumor mills yet when the phones do come out, people complain that it didn’t have said features, considering they were never promised in the first place.
AirPods refresh was rumored a while back and set to launch with AirPower but it was pushed back until Apple canceled it. Only then did AirPods get their update. Hence my reluctance to follow rumor mills. I stand by what I said, until Apple officially ships it, then it doesn’t exist.
