I love airpods and use them extensively every day. My first set wore out long ago and I replaced them immediately. Not sure how y'all are getting them to last 3 years. I'm on my 2nd set and the batteries are just about gone. One ear dies after just 30 minutes. $260 is a steep price but if they fit better and have ANC then I'm a buyer on day one. Fingers crossed that they're available before Thanksgiving. I'll be on several very long flights.

I curently hate the shape of Apple airpods and all previous apple in ear headphones, much prefer the comfort of ear buds that tend to mould and flex to your ear shape so I'm looking forward to a design change.

Same, I hate pushing them into my ears. Nasty feeling and I find that semi-deaf sensation horrible as well.

But imagine how cool it would be to have the current shape AirPods (that sit just outside your ear canal) but with the speaker part in a soft, silicone material that didn’t press hard against your ear cartilage but behaved a little like memory-foam. Those, I’d buy without question.

Dumb question but how does noise cancelling technology actually work? Does it create white noise sound to block outside noise or is it because the in-ear tips actually create a seal in your ear which blocks out the noise? If it creates white noise, doesn't that damage ears in the long run?

Cue the parade of obligatory elitist headphone owner’s, “No thanks, I’ll stick to my *insert brand name* headphones instead”
Different tools for different occasions. I wear the 'came with the iPhone' earbuds when I run so I don't lose one when it falls out next to a storm drain; but for at home listening, over-the-ear (bought on Prime Day :) since I don't have an elitist's budget) is a more enjoyable experience for me. You would never catch me wearing those walking down the street however...

Basically white noise. It uses microphones that measure ambient sound and then creates a waveform that is the exact opposite of that sound which cancels it out. (mostly) Good NC is like being enveloped in a cone of silence. I'm not sure how good it will be with ear buds but my Sony over the head NC earphones are awesome. I can hear a very faint hissing sound when not listening to anything. I've not heard reports of ear damage from NC headphones; the sound it generates is almost inaudible.

I literally ordered my 2nd gen Airpod's last night to arrive tomorrow. I'm not regretting it one bit seeing this report. No way i'll be paying £260 for the Pro's.

I'm so close to ordering the 2nd Gen, doubt I'd get these new ones because of price and wouldn't want in-ear anyways for day to day usage. I hope they can announce this soon and we can get over it and make a decision quicker.

And yet another Apple gadget that they add the "Pro" name with an excuse to overcharge ridiculous pricing.
$260.00, No, but no thanks.

So happy with my Jabras...

Which Jabra's do you have? How's the noise cancelling on the mic?

No thanks I’m good with my “non-pro” AirPods with wireless charging case.
There're other people living in this planet, if you haven't noticed yet!

What it cost to make is irrelevant
Some people just don't get it!!! It costs a dentist like 10$ to make a filling, almost nothing to extract your tooth, should they make fillings for 20% and call it 100% profit margin! That's insane.

Whch october event??

Media should have received invites yesterday...

Is it not too late?
There’s no real rhyme or reason for when Apple sends out event invites. They’ve sent them over 2 weeks out and they’ve sent them 3 days out, but most fall between about 7–12 days out.

I'll definitely buy these! There are no other wireless earbuds on the market with noise cancellation. Bose is supposed to come out with something next year but I'll probably stick to Apple if they have good reviews.

I’m guessing that this is why the Powerbeats Pros price came down by $50. Just bought last night and I see this announcement today. I might return anyway just due to the fact that the case is rediculous. Like the buds but the case is impractical.

AirPods with active noise cancellation would be my ideal all in one solution. Yes, I have better sounding headphones but nothing beats that convenience.

In order to be sound isolating or noise cancelling, they have to have a totally different design than what they are now. They need to be the earbud type to keep external sounds out.

I have the AirPods and also the Sony WF-1000 ANC earbuds. Neither is a substitute for the other and they each have their places of use. AirPods are perfect for activities like running, jogging, walking and carrying a phone conversation while still being able to hear what’s going around. On the other hand they are miserable on an airplane with all the noise around.

Sony noise cancelling earbuds on the other hand are perfect for a better quality sound and isolating most of the external noises on an airplane. Yet they are not that great for the activities I described above where the AirPods excel. For one thing, walking or running with the earbuds you hear the thumping noise of your own footsteps in your ears and that is pretty annoying.

I’m curious to see what will the new AirPods look like, but the old style, non-isolating AirPods, will always be offered as well, rather than being replaced with the new design.

This isn't true. Sony put out noise cancelling buds a few months ago and the reviews are pretty good.
