August seems unlikely to me. It would interfere with their education sales promotions for that time of year. After that concludes in September would be a better launch time.
Same here. HTC One has the logo doesn't it? Oh no, I really hope they don't put it on the device anywhere.
The iPhone 5 came out in September. I'm on a 2-year contract so if iPhone 6 does come out in August, AT&T better let us upgrade without penalty!
Funny how as time passes, all those people who were absolutely convinced that the 5.5" iPhone doesn't even exist seem to have changed their tune. It's happening people, stop being weird about it.
I don't think they would do that. They put the retina Mini on the same level as the Air. No reason to reverse that trend. The 4.7 will do me but I'll be mightily annoyed if the 5.5 has additional features above the larger screen size.
It doesn't take a full two years to become eligible for the full upgrade discount. The iPhone 5 came out in September. I'm on a 2-year contract so if iPhone 6 does come out in August, AT&T better let us upgrade without penalty!
I better not find a Beats logo on it.
Back-to-school is one of the major times of year for the retail industry. It's up there with Black Friday and the holiday season in terms of sales. Apple is a retail company. There's no reason to suspect that Apple sees the back-to-school timeframe as a "dead month."Total nonsense. Apple is not having an iPhone event in August.
That's a dead month (at least in the U.S., where Apple is based and conducts its launches). Everyone in the U.S. is either in the last throws of their summer vacation or frantically getting (the kids) ready for back-to-school. Attention spans for everything else are at a minimum.
No sane company, with a huge dependency on the U.S. market, launches a new product in August. They wait until after Labor Day, which is Sep 1 this year. And no company with any media savvy has a major event one or two days after Labor Day because of travel constraints. So that puts the earliest practical day for an iPhone announcement event at Sep 9 or 10. Going on recent history, that would put an iPhone launch at Sep 19, again at the earliest, and far far away from August.
The sooner the better. Dying to know if they will have a high end model 4inch or I have to settle with the 4.7inch model.
Am I the only one that wants a 4" iPhone 6? I don't want something I can't use with one hand or put in my pocket.
Lets hope they hire someone from Samsung who can help them get over their production problems in producing a larger screen and release the 5.5 in september as well.![]()
Because it's not about having a smaller phone -- it's about screen real estate. People want to be able to see more and do more with the screen they're presented. Besides increasing the size of the screen, the only option is to increase the pixels and scale the resolution so everything is smaller, but that doesn't really solve the problem for people that want to see more on their screens. For example, videos, images, etc. would still be 4" diagonally no matter how high the resolution goes.Looks like the iPhone 5S will be my last iPhone for a long while until they decide not keeping the 4" model was a big mistake.
I can understand that there's pressure from the market for them to respond but why not be clever with the current 4" model? Borderless screen? Remove home screen button?
*sigh*

You have to think that they won't obliterate the 4" screens. Just based on the rumors we've heard so far, I'd bet we'll see the 5c, 5s and a 4.7". I'm still iffy on the existence of a 5.5" just because it's such a hard usability problem to fix for users and a headache to code for yet another screen size.
Good point. You could be right. The "unveil and launch in August" part seems less likely than unveiling in July to launch in August.Yes, it's the peak buying season for back-to-school items is August, but it's a terrible time to announce a new product, not just for Apple, for anyone. You never see companies announce new consumer electronics in Aug. because few are listening. If back-to-school is the target then it's announced no later than June. Otherwise they wait until after Labor Day.
I can't imagine Apple releasing this in August. Also if the 4.7 & 5.5 WERE ready at the same time, Apple would never release them at the same time. Thats exactly the type of marketing strategy they have always avoided. For good reason too.
