Apple’s response: we believe there is no demanding need for majority (Cupertino only) of our customers to connect their iPhone to a computer, to a car, or to anything. Wireless charging has been thriving in the past few years and we think it’s charging speed is so good that cable charging has lost its competitive edge. Without charging port, we are able to achieve 5 meter 90min waterproof rating, better than ever before.

In all seriousness though, Apple better find another way to offer connectivity to a computer, rather than just shoehorn their “courageous” charging port removal decision to end user.

You already can sync a phone via wifi.

Apple is set to launch the iPhone 13 in the third week of September and a 1TB internal storage option will be available for the high-end Pro models, Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives said today in an investors note seen by MacRumors.

From the note:
Last week, Taiwanese research firm TrendForce said it believes Apple will launch the iPhone 13 in September. While the iPhone 12 series was announced in October last year, likely due to pandemic-related delays, Apple is expected to return to a September release for the iPhone 13 series, and the third week of the month is one possibility that Ives has stuck to consistently. Based on past events, Tuesday, September 7, September 14, and September 21 are all possible event/announcement dates, with launch usually occurring the following Friday.

Since at least March, Ives has likewise asserted that the iPhone 13 series will include 1TB storage options, and his latest report is essentially him doubling down on that claim. A 1TB capacity would be double the current highest 512GB offering for the iPhone 12, and if camera upgrades take up the feature spotlight this year, as they are expected to for the Pro models, then offering more onboard storage would be a logical stepwise addition.

Apple has several iPhone 13 Pro improvements ready that will be aimed at professional videographers and pro users, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The upcoming iPhones will feature a video version of the iPhone's Portrait mode, which will allow people to capture videos that focus on a person, blurring out the background. Internally, Apple is calling this "Cinematic Video."

Apple also plans to add an option to record in a higher-quality ProRes video format. ProRes videos are designed for professional video editors and will result in large file sizes with HD and 4K resolution options. With the iPhone 12 Pro, Apple added ProRAW, and ProRes is the video equivalent. It's expected to be a feature limited to the iPhone 13 Pro models.

Hardware-wise, the iPhone 13 Pro models are expected to include an improved Ultra Wide lens, with Apple upgrading from a 5-element lens to a 6-element lens, along with autofocus, which would be an upgrade over the fixed focal length Ultra Wide camera in the iPhone 12 models.

In his latest note, Ives also reaffirms Wedbush's reporting that all models of the ‌iPhone 13‌, ranging from the lowest-end ‌iPhone 13‌ mini to the ‌iPhone 13‌ Pro Max, will feature LiDAR sensors, allowing for more realistic AR experiences and improved autofocus in low-light scenes.

A 1 TB USB 2.0 phone. :)
Right!? Plus iCloud storage is still like 5Gb. It seems like you should always be provided enough storage to at least backup your device to the apple owned cloud.

Yeah but still need to be plugged once to start it, unless Apple enables wireless pairing.
Also DFU mode iPhone cant be connected via wifi.

I assume that when the time comes to remove the port, they will improve that and providefpr DFU options. I hope.

For many people that don't like to use cloud services, local storage is obviously important and I can see some users (not me) running near full on 512GB. Probably my main reason from upgrading from my iPhone 11 to the 13 is for the qualcomm modem which I believe is better than the intel modem. I rarely see anyone posting on the benefits of a better modem. It is a cellphone after all isn't it?

I got a 256 XS Max and have to limit myself. I'm thinking 512 13. I'd like the 1TB if they have that option but I won't like the price which will be way too expensive. Also, I can't wait to get rid of the XS Max for the intel modem in it. It hasn't been horrible, but it hasn't been great either.

Honestly though, I see the 13 as a pretty average upgrade apart from the 120 promotion scroll thingy. That will make a big difference. Oh and the smaller notch. Small mercies...

Was it worth me waiting a year and passing on the 12 to get the 13? I think it was as the 12 was an even weaker upgrade. 5G and that was it.

Cannot call anything “Pro» without 120Hz anymore. It’s not 2017.

My iPhone X is starting to show small signs of slow down. I’ve been on vacation all of this week, so I’ve been using Google Maps a lot. Battery is the first sign that it’s aging. I now have to be recharging it at least 2 to 3 times a day. I really want to hold until 2023, but if it gets slower, then I will likely have upgrade a little earlier and or replace the battery.
Reset it and never install social network apps, use them via browser bookmarks instead. Why power up their spying on you with your aging battery?

I think 1Tb is an overkill... but if you have money to burn and take a lot of high res videos... go ahead! ;)

120Hz... you win some, you lose some. A bit of extra visual 'smoothness' in exchange for battery life. Can't wait for the comprehensive reviews and tests.

The rumored always-on display on the iPhone will be super useful. Some Android phones already have it, genuinely curious to see how Apple will implement it. Will it be similar to the Apple Watch?

Actually yes the current ip12 modem is vastly better than my previous XSMax iPhone. Downside is in poor signal areas Qualcomm modem is a battery hog. Will be interesting to see if there's improvement in this area...

1TB? That’ll be fun over Lightning. This is why it’s now outdated. Lightning was great, but as the storage on these devices grow, the slow transfer speeds compared to USB 3.x is becoming painfully obvious, it’s why at this point I’m in favour of a USB C port, or perhaps an improved Lightning V2 that’s backwards compatible. Something needs to improve.

No it won't. Your phone will work the same with or without 120Hz. Nothing will actually change

Its all in your head, after one week you will forget about and will look forward to this 'magical' iPhone 14 upgrade that will "again" change your life :)

Hahahhahahahaha
looking at actual price depreciation of past iphones, I would actually lose slightly more money keeping my current phone for another year than to sell it before the release of the new ones and upgrade this year.

So I’m definitely upgrading, and in terms of the screen I’m more excited about the ProMotion related battery improvement than anything else :D

In theory, yeah, but it is SLOW, and the sync hangs about 80% of the time.
On the plus side, perhaps this will force Apple to ACTUALLY FIX IT?
It's pathetic how bad wireless sync has been for years. There was like, two years at the start of iOS when it actually worked well, then it just degraded to uselessness with Apple enevr caring about it no matter how many bug reports you submit.

On the politics side, Apple can split the difference...
- Keep Lightning as a connector
- Make the euro version (or all versions, but euro version only is better!) of iPhone NOT CHARGE via Lightning
- so it can use Lightning as before for sync, carplay etc. Just not charging
- allow the euro phone to only charge via wireless

Response to Euro politicians:
"WTF are you complaining about? You told us you didn't want charging via Lightning. We stopped charging via Lightning. Make up your minds what you actually want, because we are not psychic!!!"

Or they could just change the port on the iPhone to USB-C, comply with international laws, and make lots of money selling Lightning-to-USB-C dongles. And then fix wireless sync, because it's 2021 and this isn't something that should be a challenge for a global tech giant.

I think the rumored updates are all fine if they’re in keeping for an “S” upgrade. So I am surprised it’s not going to be called the 12s, especially given superstitions about the number 13 in America. I am interested in seeing if there’s something a bit more to the upgrade to justify bumping it up an entire number. In the past I’ve felt S-level upgrades were worth trading up for. This time, I’m not sure. For now I’m just planning to upgrade from 12 mini to 13 mini at year’s end only because it will be the last mini Apple makes for awhile. I’m not sure I see anything compelling me to trade up from my 12 Pro Max.
I think the mini phone should be full featured.

Lighting v2- I had been thinking about that, too.
