Other than Severance, they don't market the shows and movies at all. There's none of the studio PR push - press tours, advance reviews, marketing integrations, etc -- to get people interested in new shows, and no significant back catalog (i.e. Friends on Peacock, Sopranos on Max, etc.) that would get people in either. It feels like a hobby for Apple, and it's producing good stuff, but someone needs to get serious if they want to be a real player.

Also as others have said, the name is so confusing. I can watch Apple TV+ on my Apple TV device or by using the Apple TV app on my (non-Apple) TV but I do need to go to the Apple TV+ section of the Apple TV app or open the Apple TV+ app on my Apple TV. Now imagine explaining this to my mom and dad.
They should give it specific new name, like "Apple Cinema".

Apple Arcade is just straight garbage. I’ll never open a single game that its title ends with .io or ends in a +. Wtf does that even mean? It just sounds scammy. The worst service by far.
In the first 3-5 years of iPad it was not needed. But I can't imagine hanging iPad to my kids without Apple Arcade. Most of the games outside Apple Arcade are garbage.

The biggest mistake they made was trying to shoehorn the local library management stuff in with the steaming service. They should’ve kept itunes around for those who want that and built a streaming app for AM from the ground up.
Amen. I find it particularly frustrating because of some music. I always want on my phone for off-line listening. However, a periodically disappears from my downloaded files and I have to re-download them when I’m on an airplane which is not possible. Then sometimes I play one of my downloaded songs And rather than continue through my downloaded music it decides I need to switch next to their streaming which I don’t want to do.

I like the Apple TV, but Apple TV+ is actually a waste for me. Had a couple interesting shows, but nothing great. They need to make something like Youtube TV or Hulu to truly compete and make something worth while...
disagree, the shows have been fantastic for the last 2 years. the problem is the marketing. it shouldn't be called Apple TV+ for one thing. it's just confusing and dummies with droids think its not for them

You mean like literally every other streaming service out there? I'd say on Netflix, the ratio is more like 20 to 1.
But a true streaming company like Netflix has so much content that even if one out of five is quality or even one out of 20 is quality you end up with a lot of very high-quality content. I love Netflix.

It would probably help if they stopped canceling their good shows. Constellation was excellent.
I think they should take a lesson from the British. The BBC and other European content creators write a story with an arc that has maybe five or six episodes and then the story is completed. You don’t need to have a cliffhanger hoping for a season two that may or may not appear, and that may or may not be quality.

Apple is consistent when it comes to producing great content for TV+, but the issue is they’re trying to sell a subscription for such a tiny catalogue when services like Netflix are 1000x larger content wise.

I watch some shows on Apple TV+ when they give me free periods (usually after making a major Apple purchase), but there isn't much on there that I'd pay for

Their biggest downfall is making content with all star casts. Most of those shows or movies are snoozefest. Be like A24. Set a small budget and let creatives do their thing.

Good to see a giant tech corp failing in content creation. Remember John Stewart? They hired an outspoken culture & news commentator to produce a weekly show then wouldn't allow him to do a report on China. Tech companies cannot be trusted with news or creative content -> too many conflicts of interest. Amazon, Google & Apple shouldn't be allowed to be production studios while being distributors.

It’s a ‘worst of both worlds’ experience.

It’s a sad indictment, given the amount of active devices Apple has that they haven’t reached a 100 million. The service is ten years old in summer.

Apple should buy a studio with a back catalogue, like Amazon did. Become a real streaming service instead of one that's more like HBO with generally higher quality but limited content releases.

I think requiring an Apple Account is already killing any interest for many people. Also, I don't think I have ever seen them promote anything in my country. Even Severance. I only hear about it cuz I am on a lot of English speaking pages like this one.

I personally never paid for it. There is always a free trial somewhere.

It really is dumb to require a full account, PLUS an account for all profiles. You can't just create a profile on Apple TV+ like every other streaming service, you must create a new full account. Everyone is my house uses my profile because my wife doesn't have an apple account, and neither do the kids.

Lower tires of Apple One should have fitness+.

Only a billion a year in losses isn't as bad as I would have thought. Always thought it was a bit of a vanity project for the Apple executives so they could hang out with stars. Content quality is excellent though and I appreciate this. And especially so with HBO/Max under pressure to reduce costs and likely that resulting in reduced quality. HBO retracting will open a door for a resorting of content creation with leaders emerging with Disney holding down the kids content and potentially Apple TV+ being the high quality leader. My families current consumption is largely split between Disney for the kids (and for Star Wars/Marvel for the whole family) and Apple TV+ for me and my wife. Max is also a must subscribe but that "must" gets weaker every year. And we still have cable for sports and news.

AppleNews should be very profitable. Apple has added an ad to every screen scroll. A very big use of screen space ad to be exact.
And it looks horrible and cheapens the Apple experience. Are they so desperate for cash that they have to be in ads too?

I have to say, I have an AppleOne sub for my family, and it's awesome. We all use Apple Music as our main source of on demand music. Apple TV+ has some shows I truly enjoy, and I'd never expect any platform to only produce hits. Apple Arcade+ is great for the kids, and I never expected to be getting Playstation quality titles out of it. News+ gets me access to paywall articles on several publications I'd normally not have access to. Haven't dabbled in Fitness+ yet, but probably wouldn't be a bad idea, haha.

I hope Apple keeps going and growing on their services. Netflix has so much more history than Apple TV+ and it's not confusingly tied into products and devices, so it's not really apples to apples to me.

AppleTV+ is a terrible name.

Still, their content offerings are better than Netflix and Prime at this point (but nowhere near Disney or HBO).

Apple Services as a whole has a discovery problem across the board.

CONTENT PRODUCERS:
Doing a decent job… but that doesn’t matter when:

SOFTWARE TEAM:
Even as an Apple One subscriber and general fan of Apple’s content offerings, their software limits the discovery of content across Music, Apple TV+, Fitness, Arcade (even News and Books) without significant clicks to navigate around.

MARKETING:
Much of the content I stumble upon wasn’t marketed correctly (if at all).

I love books. Primarily because you can choose between written or audiobook format. I do agree. The book store is full of a lot of junk. And now it’s filled with even more AI generated garbage thanks.
I’m not saying it’s a bad product. It’s just that kindle and audible or so dominant it feels pointless and kept there presumably as it was a jobs passion project and perhaps tidy don’t want to kill it out of respect.
