I think they'll sell 150,000 units the first day.I think it's a super interesting device and I'm planning to buy one. However, I don't think they'll sell 150,000 units in the first year. I think they'll sell closer to 20,000. The $3,500 cost prices out 97% of Apple consumers and the lack of applications that make use of the headset will make it a hard sale for business use (this first gen unit specifically which lacks 3rd party apps).
For as long as Apple doesn’t formally release the product in the EU, then it’s not beholden to EU regulations. So, its App Store could be run however Apple likes for years. Then, after the OS is more performant and the API’s more stable, THEN they can determine when/if they want to do the work supporting other App Stores required by the EU.This looks like something we'll be getting in a couple of years at best... especially if you're in Europe, which gets new products well after the US.
It's going to sell out because of scalpers, not because of real demand. For starters, less than 200,000 units in the first year will ship. I guarantee there are more than 200,000 people waiting with money in hand to buy this. Secondly, it's revolutionary. The hand gesture control and eyesight control technologies spark excitement. All the WWDC attendees who reported back all said it was amazing. Many of these reviewers are extremely well respected and their followers will buy the device. Finally, it's Apple. There is no other company known for having long lines for a new high-priced device.
Someone is lying here. Creating a sense of scarcity before the product is even released? Or we have 2.0 of that charging mat which was cancelled.
I see we’re all thinking the same thing regarding hoarding a 1st gen NIB unit to cash out in 15-20 years. It’ll be a real bummer when loads of people spend crazy money to do that and in a couple decades they're dime a dozen bc theres a glut of unopened ones on the market, and in all that time these things just sat in boxes losing functionality as Apple changed/killed off the required services, & by the time they’re 10 years old you cant even activate them anymore. lol
Would you buy a $3500 device from a scalper? I guess someone might but I wouldn't.It's going to sell out because of scalpers, not because of real demand.
Yeah totally, just what I said was 97% can't afford it. The remaining 3% still need to be convinced. No one I know wants one, I'm the outlier in my friend circle of about 8 people who all have iPhones, Apple Watches, MacBook Pro/Air and iPads and none of them are interested even a little in this thing, but I am. We can all afford it etc3% of annual iPhone customers ALONE account for about 4 million people.
For a first generation device at $3,500 starting. I don't see it. I could see the 2nd or 3rd generation selling more than 150,000 units. I don't however see the 1st generation doing that, not at this price point.I think they'll sell 150,000 units the first day.

Until no one buys it and they discontinue it like they do every other unsuccessful product. How is that good for the future of spatial computing? This is a good thing, not for the product, but for the technology. A force as big as Apple demanding nes technologies and developing new manufacturing techniques surely can only be a good thing for the future.
They'll be lucky to sell that in the first year. Have you even seen this product? It's an iPad, that requires wearing a massive and uncomfortable headset, that only lasts 2 hours, and costs $3500+.I think they'll sell 150,000 units the first day.

You're assuming the analysts know what they're talking about and are deliberately lying. They don't know, they're just guessing.Someone is lying here. Creating a sense of scarcity before the product is even released? Or we have 2.0 of that charging mat which was cancelled.
These kind of cut and paste comments don't impress me, sorry.Too bad you didn't work for Apple... you obviously know their user base much better than they do. Could've saved them a lot of money. /s.
This is the same sentiment for every single new Apple product released this century.
- People thought Apple lost their mind when they debuted the iPod. Didn't do anything other MP3 players couldn't do.
- Then they laughed at the iPhone... was way too expensive and only offered on a single carrier.
- Said the iPad was DOA as it didn't do anything A Mac and an iPhone couldn't do.
- The Apple Watch wasn't round, so it would fail.
- Moving Macs to Apple Silicon would push into irrelevance.
People miss the fact that Apple improves their platforms over time. Whatever the first generation lacks, it'll be fixed or added in the next release, and the next release after that, and so on. Not sure why people are so short-sighted when it comes to Apple.
It's called the Vision Pro for a reason, it's not meant for mass adoption. It's meant for developers and other professionals. There will be a second and third version. By then the cost of most of the technology in it will allow them to release a lower cost model for everyone else, the Apple Vision [not Pro].
Well good thing the battery is external. As long as you keep the proprietary connector and cable intact, someone could supply it with power down the line. No risk of battery exploding and damaging the headset.I sincerely doubt current battery-technology is meant to sit idle for 20 years.
The original iPhone had much less sophisticated battery-cells with much less density and I have a feeling this is why they don't destroy themselves and the device after a couple of years sitting in a box.
I'd be more comfortable betting on the value of a handful of Krueger Rand coins - they at least don't have the deterioration- and self-destruction issues of any modern, battery-powered electronic device...
Consider the amount of purple milkshakes that otherwise would have just gone people, y’know, wanting to drink a purple milkshake that went instead for the memes. These things will be dropped from high buildings, ran over with cars, dunked into salty seawater and worn while playing basketball for the memes! The memes...
Yeah, if production for next year really is just 200k that’d be massively underwhelming. If they're making 200k total for all of 2024, it'll sell out within the first day, maybe the first hour.
Remember that they won't have all 200k to sell on the first day. Maybe they'll have 30k to sell on the first day.
Uh, let’s cross that bridge when we come to it I don’t think it will be an issue. So when it ships, how will Apple handle the situation of supply not meeting demand?
Only make it available at Apple retail stores in certain cities?
Only make it available to those who pre-order?
Only make it available to developers?
You're pitting one rumor against another. It's more likely that someone has outdated information or is misinterpreting numbers than anyone is lying.Someone is lying here. Creating a sense of scarcity before the product is even released? Or we have 2.0 of that charging mat which was cancelled.
I still do not think that it will be a success unless there will be a away to avoid ads. On a small smartphone screen ads are already very annoying, but imagine ads on a device that covers your whole view. That is a nightmare.
