Because they are all like that right.
You quote your experience, I'll quote mine. Among other things: aided some psycho to stalk me by illegally giving out personal information. Yeah, I feel safe.

people who read books on smartphone screens truly are *special*. ;)

?? Because they are able to wade through crap and find useful book apps that work well on their device? Ok.

great post...

also the Blackberry (as a comms device) is not just better, it's MUCH ,much better

How much sooner do you need your text or push mail??? How about just call people? But that does mean you need another network besides ATT though.:D

Is 30sec to 2 minutes a deal breaker? I think the delay is more on 10 sec to 1 min mark. Unless you are day trading stocks on your phone, few seconds aren't going to matter.

Was checking some of the vids on the BB website...so they brought basic iOS functionality like pinching a photo of tabbed web browsing and that is supposed to be "very cool"...

Of course assuming the above is true with sufficient evidence. It would seem to me as you have a great legal case on your hands.

....and the reason this is featured on Apple Rumor site is
Next you will be writing about every new computer that comes out that competes with the iMac or whatever.
I completely fail to see the relevance of this article.

ATT? Seriously? This is like putting a concept sports car prototype on a 100 year old Sudanese Navy vessel, sailing that vesel around the world and expecting not to loose the car.

Bad choice of carriers RIM. iPhone is struggling with that service already. Activesync is cheaper, it works with many devices and security is better than ebfore on Exchange 07/10.

BB is seriously a joke of a phone, it cant do anything that ios or android cant do better and the interface is slow, confusing and unattractive.... i mean for instance this is 2010 and they are finally getting an HTML browser? that text only half internet **** is why i bought an iphone in 2007 instead of a BB and they are now just fixing it... goodbye and good riddance RIM

Anybody notice how the only thing they advertise now id the BBM? thats seriously all they have going for them? its called a text message dude!

from the business standpoint you stand behind, the iphone does mail, phone (the service you get with the iPhone on AT&T WILL be the same on this Blackberry), not to mention visual voicemail, facetime (given you have an iPhone 4), tell me from this "getting things done" standpoint, what does the
Blackberry do better than the iPhone?

you see there's the mis-conception...

Phone service in general (any network) can and does vary by handset. Oh and by the way....I am fortunate enough not to live in the US.

so to answer your question directly...

Amongst other things, the blackberry takes and makes calls far better than an iPhone can. It holds onto to its' signal better and the quality is far crispy.

you realise you miss a proper phone the first time you drive to an area with an iPhone where with your old phone you got a signal (not a good signal) but on the iPhone its nada, zilch...

same sim card..

so you go home check the network map ....yes you should get coverage...so you ring the network...any issues in that area? No.... so how come I had to drive 3 miles away to get any sort of signal??

Are you on an iPhone sir?

Yes...

Ah, that explains it...

or

at the office in a major city where its 5 bars 3G on every network and the phone is on your desk not touched and suddenly you get a text saying 'missed call..this person tried to call you at...'

the phone never rang, its a foot away!!!

or

again in a major city in a life or death situation where you really need to ring a loved one and the phone screen stares back at you with 'searching' in the top corner....to the point where I have to borrow a friends phone on the same network just to make a call.

iphone still says searching....

you know just basic functions, most any other phone handles better.

Apple are happy that you blame the networks...but the truth is, it isn't the networks fault. iPhone is just a really poor telephone handset.

Can I play Madden NFL on a berry? Probably not, but then again I didn't really buy it for that did I?

just on a serious point I've managed to test iPhones on all 3 of the major UK networks and you can name any other 3G phone by any manufacturer and they will all perform better.

I've got companies begging me to find them something that actually works and to get away from iPhony's ;)

Come on you are all a smart bunch of people. You do realize that RIM is not in the same market as the iPhone and Android. They are geared more towards enterprises who utilize BES.

That's been rims traditional market but they're obviously trying to appeal to the consumer market big time with blackberry 6. Major fail IMO. They shoulda just tried to keep only appealing to enterprise becaus when they lose their deathgrip there, they're finished. Android and iOS are simply light years ahead and already have strong developer bases. Peace out RIM. Consider a symbol change to RIP.

Wait, is this the mythical iPhone Killer

Errrrr no. It's an "iphone alternative".. why do so people not understand that there is more than one smartphone market?

... you all know that Apple has ~6% market share in the computer market.... right? And that's not because it makes bad computers!

iPhone VS Everybody.

All you iPhone haters before you know it, Apple will be in your pocket.
SOON!!!

its because most computer buyers cant afford ~$1300 for apples cheapest computer... in this case the phones and plans are all similarly priced

What I take away from this graph is that RIM started to decline and iOS started to level off just as Android started to take off.

What conclusions can we draw?
  • It’s presumed that RIM is for enterprise, but this shows that RIM’s and Android’s markets aren’t mutually exclusive.
  • Android is the platform to watch, and for RIM and iOS, to watch out for.

I have read things on Androidcenteral.com that showed in multiple surveys that Android was stealing the most people away from the blackberry.

The iPhone while it was nice the draw backs to the iPhone really held a lot of of people back. Draw backs the Android does not have.

iPhone draw backs I am talking that Android does not have.

1. Customization of alerts (SMS, Email ect)
2. Notification system. (lets face it iPhone notifications are pretty much crap
3. information at a glance -- This ties in to notification but things like weather apps, number of message and type, appointments ect. Something the blackberry is great at and so is Android. Iphone sucks

Those I think are 3 things the iPhone sucks at that was stopping a lot of blackberry people from jumping ship. Android gives them those choices and most of the other plus the iPhone has over the blackberry. They have fewer things they have to give up to leave blackberry to go to Android than to leave and go to the iPhone.

What i never understood is how anybody could buy a BB phone for personal use, i mean yea corperations buy truckloads of them (still dont understand why) but they udderly suck as a personal phone. i have a buddy who is a BB nut and when he tries to show all the stuff he can do with it he gets embarrased by ios and android. They are supposed to be so good at messaging right? then why is it such a pain in the ass to view picture texts or pictures in email? my iphone email is lightyears ahead of that garbage, and dont tell me BB is better because some company bought some server thing to control their mail... i get company emails and personal mail less than 10 seconds after they are sent on my iphone, how much faster do you need? couple that with the fact that the OS isnt garbage and that makes ios/android better does it not?

I'm desperately sorry to tell you everywhere I've been with my iPhone I've gotten enough signal to make a call. Even if I get that rare Call Failed, usually a redial will be the remedy to my woes. Yes, at times my service drops to a bar, but still rarely do I lose calls. Maybe I'm lucky who knows. But in core performance, my iPhone has worked (opened up apps, etc.) faster than any Droid and Blackberry phone that my buddies have. i like the iPhone because it's simple, yet effective. And most of all, it just works. I can't say that it's perfect, or there isn't anything else I wish for. In my opinion the iPhone is the best preforming smartphone on the market.

This the same thing that happened with Apple VS Microsoft is happening all over again, iPhone run only @ ATT and droid runs on multiple carriers. IOS runs only on the iPhone and Droid plays on multiples phones. If Apple opens up Mac OS X to the rest of the computers makers the story will be a lot different.

Jeez, who cares about RIM. Why is this macrumors news? It's not even remotely close to being a threat to the iPhone.

In what way is RIM corrupting peoples minds to buy Blackberrys instead of iPhones?

My Blackberry contract is much cheaper than a comparable iPhone contract, for one! I spend about $40 less on a Blackberry contract than I would a comparable iPhone contract. Aaaaand, I get unlimited data.

But, to each their own. Some people want more functionality than what a Blackberry delivers. For me? It's fine!

I'm desperately sorry to tell you everywhere I've been with my iPhone I've gotten enough signal to make a call.

You are fortunate.

I've had to loan my Verizon WinMo phone to Iphone-toting pals when we were in the middle of San Francisco - and they had the "searching" icon and I had 4 bars.

Some Iphone users aren't as fortunate as you. Feel lucky, but don't disparage those who frequently have to deal with dropped calls. It's a real problem for the Iphone in the US - whether it's the phone or the network is a moot point.
