Amazon is suddenly (today--it wasn't there yesterday) offering discounts of $190 on MacBook Pros--

A big electronics retail chain (mediamarkt) this week offers a €100 discount coupon on all the Mac-models, the last time they did that was a few weeks before the new MacBooks. Maybe insider knowledge or some director keeping up with the rumors. :)
I hope Apple holds on to the basic models and lowers the price.

Macbook Pro 13" shipping delayed to Oct. 14

I was on the phone working on ordering a 13" MBP. I did ask for the hard drive to to upgraded to 500GB, which means a small delay as apparently they have to crack the case (no wait - surely they have a stack of likely combos??).

I was asked for my apple account and to confirm my postal code. While we were on the phone the shipping date shifted from Oct 2-6 (today's date is Oct 2) to Oct. 14, and then it would arrive in the week after that.

We don't have much very solid evidence of a shift in the MBPs, but this was my experience.

I'm also concerned about the number of people having problems with 500GB drives in the 13 and 15 MBPs - spinning beachball (lots of conversations here on MacRumors).

Realistically the last MBP update was June this year - so it's only 4 months later. Possible though - it's happened before.

I would guess a speed bump, quad core maybe too. Blue ray I doubt, ditto USB 3.0.

I can wait a couple of weeks ...

Exactly three years ago my cousin accidentally poured a little milk on my sister's laptop while she was in Spain (Erasmus programme). She really needed a pc and I suggested her to get a white MacBook, but she bought an HP instead.

Agree, white MacBook would hide the milk stains better.

Many many guys are eager to see a Blu Ray drive in a mac, but don't be disappointed if that does not happen any time soon. Not in the mac mini at least. I think that when Apple goes BR, at first they'll implement it in the Mac Pro, then they will add that feature across all the line and Mac mini will be last.

If they implement BR, I think they will do it as a consumer video media enhancement, rather than a removable storage media one. For this reason, I think they'd be more likely to introduce it into the more consumer-orientated iMacs first rather than the Pro, which by definition is aimed more at the professional market.

I work for an Apple reseller, and trust me, they tell us next to nothing. In fact, nothing.

Saying that, got an email today saying we've dropped the prices of the current white Macbooks we have in stock.

I ordered a 13.3" MBP 2.53GHz yesterday and it is arriving on Monday.
Crap for me if they come with a upgraded version after the 14th then i cant use the remorse period..

Anyway ordered from the IE store. shipped from UK

I almost dare to bet a large coin to October 13 there will be an event (not the first time I read that Macbooks/Imac would be delayed until that date) + it is on a Tuesday, which tends to mean Apple days. Invitation comes out next week.

Last year's event with the introduction of UNIBODYN went to the start on October 14, then on a Tuesday - when the invitation was sent on Friday the week before. It is perfectly in time this year also

Mark my words.

so it sounds like there's a possibilty the MBP will be updated?? that would be awesome if so...i think i'd rather have an updated MBP + LED CD than imac.

If you by any chance are right. and i hope you are i will be a happy man. returning the one arriving on monday and getting the updated version.

I hope I hope.

Er, wouldn't that be an iMac?

Ummm yeah that was a really dumb and simplistic way of putting it on my behalf. :p

What I meant was to have a MacMini that resembles the iMac in STYLE, with a black top, white Apple Logo, silver encasing. ;)

Oh and yeah and a ton of awesomeness. MacMini Aluminum or something.
:D

Not necessarily...

If they do you are eligible to return it and you'd get the new one. I think it's within the week they introduce it. So if you buy yours on a Tuesday and they announce a Tuesday model (SHIPPED on the day), you'd get it replaced.

BUT if they release it on that Tuesday and announce it to be ready for delivery in two weeks, I'm not sure you'd get it.

It's an Apple store policy so it can change. A friend of mine got their MacBook exchanged to the new one when they announced it the day after.

Yep I used to work for Apple too... They tell NO ONE a dang thing.

Not even the important things like hardware flaws or serious recall issues, then we have to figure out if the customers are messing with us or what.

The only way to figure it out is to pay attention to the smaller details like new details changing in policies, warranties, product codes being updated in the system, etc.

Still, it's as much a guessing game as it is for our customers.

Truth be told, this year the MBP has seen a bit too many updates... first the new encasing, then the same encasing only without the optional battery replacement and then another update with new ports and so on.

I'm glad I didn't buy a new MBP to see it evolve before my eyes in less than 6 months.

well, i mean either a hardware update, or price drop -- the design is great imo, any changes there would just be icing.

Does such an article exist?

Wondering if there are any articles about the average time it takes for Apple to release an updated iMac once all of these criteria are met:
1. Rumors are flying
2. word of new iMacs in production at the factory
3. time constraints on current products

??
That would be a great article, if someone would look at past releases of new products and compare to rumors/report of production/time constraints... and then come up with an average of how long it takes to see the new product "real" announcement once those 3 things exist.

The current speculation is that they will have an event on October 13th, which they will send out invitations to next week, during which they will announce the new products.

It seems that with the chassis change rumored to happen for the iMac along with the new mouse that is going to ship along with it, etc, it's going to be too big of an update to make it "silent".

it looks like Apple is now following Intel's CPU schedule in releasing new Mac's. Q1 intel released nehalem and some new consumer CPU's and Apple released new Mac's before the official announcement.

Now we have i7's just released and rumor is new Mac's are coming soon

Q1 2010 Intel is set to release it's next gen 32nm CPU's which are already being produced so look for Apple to release new Mac's as well.

if you want to get a heads up on Apple's Mac release schedule just look at Intel's CPU roadmap which goes out a few years. It's on the website

Went to the Regent Street Store, Apples UK flagship store today to return my imac, purchased 2 weeks ago.

A senior member of staff served me and asked why i was returning it. Told him about the rumoured update, to which he replied.

" So you've heard about it then?" He then told me they only had a few imacs in stock and weren't getting anymore. He reckoned the new version would get Quad core and sd slots but not Blu-Ray plus from what he knew a slight redesign and also a price drop so as to be inline with recent MBP price drops.

Who knows, maybe he's guessing, maybe he knows something. Just thought it was interesting. :):)

I'm actually really shocked you got that much information from him. He must have been like the "cool teacher" that wanted the kids to like him - breaking the rules.

In my area, they are pretty tight lipped, even when I ask loaded questions.

Always seem to do deal with him when I go to that store, so have a good relationship. He always gives me tips on software and things he shouldn't really. :):)
