You guys do realize that in the end it is just another phone right? i mean if you don't get it on launch day life will go on.

I'm sure we all know about launch day, but not having to wait 3-5 weeks for the next batch to be delivered is what I am trying to avoid.

Last year orders were at midnight on actual launch day. I realize they have done this in the past, I was just pointing out what was actually said in the keynote.

As far as lack of store pickup, the website makes it fairly clear, but they obviously can reserve the right to backtrack on that.

We don't know that... because they didn't say that. That isn't what happened last year.

It's been my experience that every time Apple did preorders the phone arrived at my house on launch day.

OK... Call me crazy..
My last phone came UPS. So I found out what his first stop usually was, and planned a meet. I was waiting for him with a Dunkies and a couple donuts!

Win Win... I got my iPhone at 9am, AND it was one less stop for him on a day when he had a bunch of extra stops

I like that idea how did you find UPS first stop?

I pay full price in order to keep my unlimited data plan, and have yet to find a way to order online without forcing an upgrade (and thus, losing my unlimited data plan).

If anyone figures out a way to do that, let me know. I always get in line late Thursday/early Friday.

Where did you see this exactly?

Here's a screenshot from the app:

"Personal Pickup is not available for an iPhone purchased with AT&T Next."

Stalking:D

Actually I work for fdx, so I talked to the UPS guy on my route, he talked to the driver in my town and we made arrangements that way...

However...
Its easy enough to figure it out, and once you know whether your getting UPS or FedEx, then you watch for your driver and catch him while he's stopped (preferably after 10:30)..
ask him if you can meet at their first stop on the 19th for your phone, ask for a window when he might be there and wait. Offer up your phone number, be prepared to wait, and don't be late. If the driver knows in advance, he can usually have the package out and ready for you.
Coffee and donuts are a nice gesture too.

If you don't make prior arrangements with your driver, they may not have time to dig out your package (wherever it's buried) at the beginning of the day. If you've even seen inside the trucks in the morning, it'd be like an Easter egg hunt!

I don't understand why we can't get UPS to drop it off at a UPS store for our pickup, rather than wait all day and/or have to take off of work.

I'm really surprised that we can't pick up at Apple if we use NEXT. That makes no since to me.

Which carrier? Verizon?

I'm on AT&T and I'm planning on buying a 6+ w/2-year contract on Friday. I'm not eligible for an upgrade but the pricing they're showing seems like it's discounted slightly ($649 for 64GB 6+). Hoping buying this doesn't negate my Unlimited Data plan, but I've never known AT&T to do that if you're simply re-upping the same contract.

Upgrading does not cancel unlimited plan on ATT. From experience. Or at least it hasn't in the past.

The past two years, the in-store pickup has not been an option for preorders, and I don't see anything about it being an option this time around either.

I did the preorder two years ago and I got my phone around 1 pm in the afternoon. The only problem is that you don't know when they will come AND you have to be there to sign for it. Which is annoying.

While pre-ordering means not standing in line, I'm doing the line option this year because Apple's trade in prices for older phones are higher than Gazelle and you can only do that in store (I know you can do it online but I wouldn't have my gift card in time for launch).

I'm confused now. I called At&t last night and they said In-Store pick-up will be available for pre-order at the same time as Apple's pre-order launch.
I was advised that this would be faster then waiting in line because online pre-orders take priority.
Hmmmmmm

Are you sure you asked about AT&T Next?

I'm confused, too. So both Apple.com and ATT.com will be allowing pre-orders at 12AM Pacific on Friday? Will both/either allow in-store pickups?

Since I'm grandfathering in my UDP, I much rather trust the AT&T Store to get this done correctly. And if they're offering pre-orders and I won't have to wait in line at 5AM next Friday I'd be excited.

The following was a conversation with a rep from another thread:

Edit: Just saw that AT&T updated their iPhone 6 landing page to indeed confirm that they're accepting pre-orders at the same time as Apple. Just not sure if they're allowing in-store pickups.

Yes, I'm planning on buying unlocked in order to keep my current plan which is no longer offered by my carrier.

Personally if I am guaranteed to get one doing the in store pick up, I would rather wait in a line at the Apple store than wait by the door all day for UPS/FedEx.

Sometimes UPS/FedEx is allowed by Apple to start delivery on Thursday because they are all in distribution channels and it gets them out of the carrier hands. Also, a lot of iPhone pre-orders get delivered on launch day before 10:30 am local time. I think that beats the store crowds.

I still don't understand why somebody would prefer to fight through the crowds on release day when you can order it a week ahead of time online and be done - just hang out at in the comfort of your own home and get it delivered on the same release day.
