Me: I see that ATT.com is offering iPhone 6/6+ preorders at 12AM PST on Friday... are these preorders only going to be shipped to customers, or will I be able to pick up my preorder at an AT&T Store on the day of release?

AT&T Rep: You will get an option once you order online. Its up to you to decide what would be the most convenient.

AT&T Rep: You can also set up an appointment online to prevent long ques and to be prioritize.

just hang out at in the comfort of your own home and get it delivered on the same release day.

Work.

Waiting in line at least would ensure I'd be able to get out of the store by 9-10AM and into my office at a decent time.

Sometimes UPS/FedEx is allowed by Apple to start delivery on Thursday because they are all in distribution channels and it gets them out of the carrier hands. Also, a lot of iPhone pre-orders get delivered on launch day before 10:30 am local time. I think that beats the store crowds.

I pre-ordered online for the 5 and it didn't show up here until 4:30pm even though UPS usually gets here between 11am-1pm for everything else. I was going crazy waiting because I had somewhere to be at 5pm and couldn't leave the house which sucked.

I lined up at 6:30am on launch day for the 5S and they handed out coffee and breakfast items in line and I had the phone in my hand by 8:30am (this was without preordering). That was a much better experience, the only downside was worrying they would run out before I got to the front of the line. If I can reserve one online and know for sure that waiting in the line up will result in me getting the phone, I don't mind waiting.

Same info I received. This is great news!:)

I have preordered phones (with store pick-up) twice now and once for the iPad. I've actually had no issue except for the first time when I got in line around 1 p.m. to pick up my phone and was there for 9 hours waiting to get in the store. The last time, I showed up around 7 a.m. and was about tenth in line.

I will say that the Apple group is the best group to wait in lines with. In general, everyone is very friendly and there is a huge feeling of excitement. At my mall, Chick-fil-A goes around and takes orders and will deliver the food for you. However, we would also hold places in line for people to go get food (usually that person would take 5-6 orders with him!), bathroom breaks, etc.

I'm torn this year as to whether or not I'm going to wait in the line or just have it delivered to my house. I'm a teacher and we are on Fall Break so it doesn't really matter to me either way but I do enjoy the lines.

That's annoying. Before I saw this thread... about an hour ago... I just waited a good 1/2 hr on AT&T's chat and was eventually told she had no info about picking up a pre-order at a store.

I would like to have it delivered but because I'm using one of my other family member's upgrade (like I do every year) I need to get to the AT&T store to switch the lines anyway. Might as well show up first thing and have it waiting for me.

I'm curious if the 5th Ave store in NYC (open 24/7) will be open at midnight the 19th for in-store pickups. I vaguely remember picking up my iPhone 5 at 2am.

The only thing it would ensure is that you could possibly be late for work.

The only true upside to the in-store pickup that I see is that they will have the 6 and 6 Plus on display finally that morning (I would assume) and that if I choose the 6 Plus and think it is too big upon seeing it, I could potentially swap at the store for a regular 6, as long as they still have stock of the color and size and that it doesn't screw up the entire AT&T eligibility thing.

<snip>
Since I'm grandfathering in my UDP, I much rather trust the AT&T Store to get this done correctly. And if they're offering pre-orders and I won't have to wait in line at 5AM next Friday I'd be excited.

I've always picked up my iPhones at an Apple store and not once have I had an issue keeping my existing unlimited data plan.

From the wording on Apple's retail pages it looks like you will be able to reserve the iPhone 6 online and pick it up in store.

I've never reserved an iPhone at a launch before, does anybody have experience with how it works? Do you pay for it online beforehand? Do you still have to line up early or are you guaranteed to get an iPhone if you reserve one?

Is this US only? i would love to be able to pre-order and then pick up in store here in the UK, does anyone know if it's available here in the UK?

Also if you pre-order and collect it in store, can you do so the day after? with the iPhone 6 release being on the 19th, my university welcome week will be on the 19th so i was looking at perhaps picking it up the next day (Saturday 20th).

I wouldn't take what an At&t chat rep tells you as gospel. How many times have at&t reps provided miss information.....

If I had to venture a guess, I would say that there wont be in store pickups on release day

Thanks for the info guys. So essentially you could pay for the phone on Sept 12th and have it reserved at an Apple store near your house to stop by on the 19th to pick up?

I'm not sure about an Apple Store reservation but At&t is saying you can order on their website and pick it up at a nearby At&t store.

Too Funny......thanks for the laugh.

Ok, if you are counting on at&t you might be disappointed come the 19th.

I did this for the 4 at an Apple Store; I reserved it for in-store pickup, and went to pick it up early in the morning to make sure I got it. Huge mistake. I was put at the end of the line so the others in front of us who didn't reserve could get theirs. It took seven hours to get my iPhone 4, when I probably could've just waited until the end of the day.

It's been my experience that every time Apple did preorders the phone arrived at my house on launch day.

Lol. Ok guys. I am not saying that isn't going to happen. It's just something I caught Tim Cook say about purchasing the 6 and 6 Plus. It's entirely possible it will ARRIVE on launch day (or before). He simply said it will SHIP on launch day. That's all. Just wanted to point that out.

Do you guys know of any way to pick up the phone from a UPS store or other type of "holding area" so that I do not have to worry about the package sitting on my door step while at work? I'm going to be using ATT Next and apparently, you can't do a personal pickup at the apple store if you are doing Next.

AT&T store said they were not sure about local per-order and pickup. Have to call around 5pm after they talk w/corporate.

I order a lot of photo stuff on line and it always ships via UPS from B&H. If you created a UPS My Choice account, free, you can actually make this request now from their app. You need the tracking number of course, but once you have that, you can make the request in the app to hold at a local UPS facility. Works nicely for me as they have a depot right across the street from my office.

Back to the statement on not being able to do in store pickup with next though. I'd RATHER do that, as I could hit the Apple store on my way to work and maybe get something for my old phone. It's making no sense to me why that would not be possible with NEXT if they are offering in store pickup at all.

I don't think it'd sit at your doorstep. Don't they need in-person signatures?

They won't leave the package (Apple requires signature). So there is that.

I have previously called when I had trcking info (on certain things, never an iPhone). As long as it's not yet out for delivery, they have always been able to work with me. I order a lot of saltwater corals, fish, etc. so I want them sitting in their overnight back as litle as possible. I always call in to where I know the package will be dispatched (last stop before delivery) and make sure they hold it for me. My local location is open by 8:30 am.

One caveat is that it needs to be a distribution location. It can not just be a "UPS Store".

Do you guys know how long Apple will hold the phone for? I fly out later in the day on Sep 19th. I'm thinking of pre-ordering for pickup in Seattle, but I wouldn't be able to get it until Saturday Sep 20.
