RESERVE online PICKUP IN Apple STORE currently live and working

How quick do their systems update? I wonder if it's worth taking a trip to an apple store even though it's showing unavailable

Fairly fast. Updates about 2x per day.

What happens when you add when to the cart? Does it reserve for you or if someone is faster they will get it?

It doesn't reserve it until the very last page. You'll need to check-out and get a receipt until it's reserved for you.

----------

anyone have a script or a plugin to have it notify you when a model comes back in stock?

That be awesome!!!!!

Alright.

Code:
#!/usr/bin/env ruby

require 'net/http'
require 'json'

product_ids = {:gold_32_att => 'ME310LL/A',
               :white_32_att => 'ME309LL/A',}
               store_ids = ['R075', 'R217'] # Stockton, Chestnut

               uri = URI('http://store.apple.com/us/retail/availabilitySearch')
               availability = []

               until availability.length != 0
                 product_ids.each do |key, val|
                   params = {'parts.0' => val, 'zip' => '94109'}
                   uri.query = URI.encode_www_form(params)
                   res = Net::HTTP.get_response(uri)

                   if res.is_a?(Net::HTTPSuccess)
                     data = JSON.parse(res.body)

                     data['body']['stores'].each do |store|
                       if store_ids.include?(store['storeNumber'])
                         puts "#{key} - #{store['storeDisplayName']} - #{store['partsAvailability'][val]['storeSelectionEnabled']}"

                         if store['partsAvailability'][val]['storeSelectionEnabled'] &&
                           availability << {:key => store['storeDisplayName']}
                         end
                       end
                     end
                   end
                 end

                 sleep(60 * 15) if availability.length == 0 # Wait 15 minutes
               end

puts availability.inspect

Use a network monitoring tool to find your specific models and locations so you can filter by them instead of the models and locations that I was sniping for.

Just returned my Space Grey ATT 16gb 5s at ATT and was able to order a White ATT 16gb 5s that's now ready for pickup at a local Apple Store. The store was the only one listed as being available for pick up (online). Once my order was complete, the store no longer had it in stock. Got my email saying its ready!! :D

Anyone else seeing "Not Eligible. In store purchase only" right now for all 5s? I had a script to refresh screen ever few minutes and now I can't check if it is in stock... Did Apple take it down for the night?

Yup I see the same thing in Northern Cal. They probably took it down for tonight for maintenance or updating stock for morning?

Great for you lucky US guys. :)

But WTF Apple, some of us in the UK (and elsewhere, certainly in Europe – as we have fully developed stock referencing systems as well you know!!) would LOVE access to this system over here, so why the hell have you only bothered to do a US one only??? :mad:

Honestly, after queuing for nothing on Friday from 5am to 8am (I was literally only ~50th in line of 300!) and getting NOTHING. Then in the process missing out on the early online orders, before they had then dropped from "7-10 days" to "October" sometime, I'm certainly getting pissed right off!
(along with the other several tens of thousands of people who waited in-line worldwide, left in the same position of ALSO missing the early online order times in the process.)

Wouldn't you think Apple would imagine this to be highly f*c*ing annoying for non-US customers to see, while we all have to be at the store before opening each day if we want one in person?? (clearly not, in Apple's eyes!)

..."October" online order it is for me, as I haven't the time to be outside an Apple store daily like the scalpers for the bloody few units that may (but probably WON'T!) be delivered to the store that day.

I can understand low supplies, but what I cannot understand is how they treat customers in an unfair manner with their various distribution methods that make no sense.

Completely agree. I went to two stores before 8am and they were both sold out. I then came home to order but by then it was October.

The website states now available in store on a first come first served basis but according to a few of the stores I called, none have had any stock since Friday. So Apple just expect people to queue each morning outside stores with no hope of getting a phone. At least in previous years they've had the reservation system. Whilst this pay and collect system they are offering in the US might be a trial, they know the reserve and collect system works so why not allow the UK (and other countries) to do that instead? Plus Apple use the same systems worldwide. Even if they have no stock, at least we could check that they have no stock rather than waiting in line on the phone or in store to ask.

What does this message mean? "In store purchase only." Does that mean they HAVE some in stock? The problem is I can't choose the store, so it can't be referring to all stores.

It means you cannot purchase it online and pick it up in store.

Stores might have some in stock or some might not.

I'm hoping the system comes back up for those of you trying. Checking throughout the day really does work. My shipment came in at like 6 pm and I abandoned dinner to go get my 32 gig silver yesterday. Calling to check is so slow. They're swamped right now so there's always a few calls ahead when you call and the time spent on hold can cost you when you need to travel to the store to get the phone before someone else!

Is the feature down for you as well? I checked the 5C for in store pickup and that's down as well.

It really looks like it's gone. I can't believe they'd put something like this up for a day and then take it away though...

Hmm, it was up as late as 11:30PM EST last night. Was going back and forth for an hour between canceling my 32GB AT&T silver and jumping on a 64GB showing available nearby. I finally pulled the trigger close to midnight and got the pick up email 5 minutes ago. Feel like I lucked out.

However I have a feeling this is all timed, that they leave the pick-up option up on the website for a particular amount of time and then shut it down so that store inventories can be locked down for the walk-in customers the next day. I wouldn't worry that it's down, just check every night close to when the retail stores close for the night.

EDIT: Reading the posts above it seems like they become available during the day too. Still don't think it's shut down for good though.

Only 5S is unavailable for in-store. If you choose a 5C, you can still check availability.

Basically, looks like they are sold out period at this time. Could change daily as stores re-stock.

I tried to checkout for instore pickup 3 times yesterday, during different times of the day. First it was a gray 32GB, gone. Couple hours later gray 16GB became available I thought fine I'll settle for 16, gone. Another hour later 32GB gray available again, gone.

Being that I'm adding a line, I have to enter all my info (SS# etc) and the system runs a credit check. All 3 times I reach the very end to click the submit order button, the phone became unavailable at the store. I hate entering sensitive info online, plus the fact that this is running a credit check, never mind the wasted time, so I got on chat and complained. I wonder if my complaining contributed to them taking it offline, surely I wasn't the only one having trouble completing a pickup order.

I'm checking from my iPad and its not showing the check in store pickup feature. The 5c shows ships in 1-2 days.

I can still check 5C availability via the app. In stock of course. But 5S says available in store only or ships in October.

Wonder what went wrong here. Why they would take it back down after a day. Then again I'm waiting to see if it comes back up when the stores open. Maybe they didn't want people buying up all their stock through the night so that people in line in the morning were left empty handed?

I don't think they are running a credit check. They are just checking with your carrier for upgrade eligibility.
