Fact? Speculation?

100% speculation. We have no idea. But I will say based on what we saw yesterday that they are gettin shipments at random times of day and sometimes more than one. Anyone who has a day to burn hanging around an Apple store could get lucky and be present for a shipment.

It was fun to dream while it lasted. I guess I should've just gone for the unlocked space grey 64gb when I had the chance. Missed out holding out for the gold...

Lucky peeps getting them in on a unique day.

I don't think they are running a credit check. They are just checking with your carrier for upgrade eligibility.

If you're upgrading an existing phone then yeah they're just checking with your carrier and all it prompts for is just the last four digits of your SS# to verify that you're the account holder. If adding a line to an existing account, it prompts for full SS#, driver's license #, and birthday to run a credit check. 3 times I did this yesterday for nothing, won't be doing it a fourth time.

It seems crazy that they would end the in-store pick up on the 5s only. I know it's the more popular product but either have it or not IMO.

I'm still hopelessly hoping it's going to return. The fact that it uses the phrase "Not eligible." is the real concern for me...

Oh yeah ... hm that's is kind of odd since the 5C is available for in-store pickup ...

aapl caught on to this thread and figured out what we were doing so they ended it...quick

Perhaps it was some sort of a trial run?

The past couple of years they've used a very similar routine; only difference seems to be is that this is an actual purchase/pickup rather than just being a reservation system (which gives you 2 weeks to get to the store to actually purchase it).

Or, maybe the demand is just too great right now for the shipment that is in the United States?

I just can't imagine that the purchase/pickup system won't be back online at some point, though.

Yep, it's gone. The 5S must be selling like hotcakes if they took down the in-store pick-up option so quickly.

Disappointed that the in store pickup has been taken down for now. From earlier posts it seem that 12:01 orders were cancelling and using in-store to get their phones quicker, and last night on-line in store pickups were walking past store lines and getting phones. I'm going to wait for supply to catch up with demand.

I'm surprised it got taken down quickly but I'm also surprised it event went up so quickly after launch, with supply issues and such.

I can't believe they'd remove it so fast, it seems like there was quite a bit of stock yesterday. I got really lucky getting a gold one yesterday.

Woop. After being tricked 3 times yesterday i finally found a store that got a shipment in at 6pm. Had stacks! Happy I was able to get it before they took it down.

I spoke to an Apple specialist and they said that it's still up ... I told her that it says Not Eligible but it seemed l like she didn't know what she was talking about. She said that it's saying that because the store I chose doesn't have it in stock lol. That's not how it worked yesterday.

So at this point the only option is to call or go to the store every hour or so? If you call the apple store can you place an order with a retail person?

Wow, can't believe they turned this off already. I guess supply is limited. To think I could have picked up a bunch yesterday.
