I'm not seeing how long one has to pick up a phone? I successfully managed to order one for in-store pickup, have it confirmed, but no "pick up by… " date anywhere.

Any ideas?

i believe in general anything you personal pickup order you have a week to pickup.

i would call a store or the 1-800 number and ask them.

That's what I want to know. I have a silver en route and may want to exchange it for space gray. When I go to online to schedule for online pickup, I get this message...

We are unable to upgrade this account.

We are sorry, but this account cannot be upgraded at this time. Please visit an AT&T store for more account details.

Am I stuck or will the status change after I activate the new device? I could always upgrade using another line on my family talk plan, no regular upgrade available, just an early upgrade. I could do that and hope that the Apple store can straightens everything out.

I bought a space gray on 20th and I had same question. I had a chat with Apple Rep and he told me that I could return the phone at the store and order new one. But it doesn't look like that we will be able to order one before we return this. I guess, we will have to keep checking the inventory and moment we see any availability, we have to head to the store and try our luck.

There was a grip at fashion valley and otay not too long ago. I was able to obtain a 32gb silver and pick it up after soccer practice. Now I need to return the one arriving Wednesday.

I bought a 32 gb space grey on launch day but didn't like it, so I checked San Diego store in fashion valley and they had one gold 32 AT&T so I placed a order for new line and went to store, picked up the phone then cancelled the line and swapped the devices. Great day for sure!!!

If I recall from doing the same thing with the 4S, I was able to reserve or purchase one for in store pickup online at the early upgrade price. Apple took care of the exchange and straightened everything out with the upgrade.

Yes! Just got home from picking up my wife's new AT&T gold 32g, just 15 minutes in the store and I was out...perfect.

Good luck everyone.

I preordered around 7am eastern on the 20th (Space Grey 64gb ATT) was quoted the 7-10 day window, and standard shipping..

Checked the 'in store pickup' option around 1pm...nothing available in any stores around me.

I checked when I got home from work around 6:30pm tonight and the store down the road from me had some available! So I call apple to see how the cancellation/upgrade restore worked. They directed me to AT&T who advised she'd restore the upgrade for me over the phone. So I decided to cancel the online order and give it a shot. Was put on a fairly lengthy hold (~7mins?).

After about 5mins on hold I was too impatient and tried the in-store pickup order on apple.com. Upgrade was successfully restored! As I was checking out the store showed 'not available for pickup at this location'...next location is in NJ but only around 15mins away (Woodcliff Lake NJ). I ordered anyway and hurried over. Got there around 7, place closes at 8 and was mobbed with in-store pickups (there was roughly 20 people in front of me and about another dozen showed up after me). I got out the door around 7:30 and headed home.

Pretty worth not having the wait the 2 weeks for the online order to show up.

I kept checking throughout the day as well and hit the jackpot at the New Haven CT store. Was able to get a 64GB Gold for the wife and a 64 GB silver for me (really wanted silver but settled for space gray on launch day so will be returning that one) around 2:30pm or so. I would keep checking as they update frequently and if you snag it right you'll get them reserved before they go to the general public! The genius was even shocked when he brought up the order about the gold one. Goodluck everyone!

Praise to the online stock indicator which told me they got a shipment today at like 6 pm. I was able to get my launch day 16gig Gray exchanged for the 32gig Silver I had wanted. Would have settled permanently for 32 gray even but needed the memory! (Verizon)

In and out in a few minutes. The store had a long line but I didn't have to wait in it. I'm now the proud owner of a 16gb gold iPhone 5s!

Was looking online today around 6:00pm this evening and a lot of stores in FL had gold and silver in stock. I had to settle for the grey on launch day, but I'm going to go to the apple store tomorrow, to return mine, and wait for availability for the one I want. Seems like they are getting in a good variety in ever day now. Would not let me buy one because I wasn't available for any upgrade, so then have to sit by the computer and wait. Oh, well. This is the first time in six years of going to an apple event, and not getting the phone I wanted.

good that they have stock. hopefully more people can get what they want sooner.

I agree, I think there must have been a big problem with the first batch. They couldn't get the next batch shipped soon enough. I'm glad they are doing the online store pickup so soon. That's good for keeping us dedicated customers happy.

I ordered at 7am on 9/20 and also had the 7-10 days to ship, Oct 7-15 delivery. At the latest check, it was 'processing'. I ordered so fast, I didn't notice the shipping options.

So I used the Apple store website to check in store availability. At 2, nothing. At 6:00pm, 64gb silver ATT was available. I cancelled my earlier order online and in about 15 min, I was able to order at upgrade price (I kept trying). Until then, it told me that I already had an order.

I found the web site to be better for checking availability as it checks upgrade status AFTER it checks availability, where the app seems to do it the other way (or I missed something).

I received my pick notification email and will go to the store tomorrow.

Silver 32G AT&T versions available in a bunch of Southern California stores now...

64G silvers as well, and a smattering of gold. Run!

Yay thank you so much! My local Apple store had Gold in stock and I was able to exchange my Space Gray phone!

Not missing something. I had the same experience. Computer is much more efficient for checking availability quickly.

Just cancelled my Oct 8-11 delivery order and placed a pick up order which is now ready and waiting for me to pick up in the morning. Was willing to wait, but I'm glad I'll get it a couple weeks early.

32GB silver ordered Friday afternoon has a 7-10 shipping day status eta Oct 7-10

saw online that the nearest apple store which is an hour and half away had them mine in stock around lunch cancelled my online order rushed through the checkout process to do a I store pickup got to the end to only find out there was none available..

got home after work around 6 checked again for in store pick up only to find they had every color and every size available picked the 32GB silver rushed through the checkout again and everything is a go..one hour and half road trip this wknd.. rather do a total 3 hour road trip than wait for 2 weeks especially now that I sold my 5 a week before release and I was just left to use my back a 3G ouch

How do exchanges work?

I got a nongold one on Friday, and I'd like to get a gold one. If I can't find one before the 14 day window I'll return it and use an android phone I keep for such emergencies.

Do I order online, and pay full price on my line...do I order as if getting a new line and then rearrange things? Do I have to return the Friday one the wait for a chance to buy the good phone???

Do you happen to remember what sizes of gold they had? And which stores? I'm thinking I'm totally going to cancel my AT&T order that's still showing "processing" and try my luck with this to get a 64GB.

Great for you lucky US guys. :)

But WTF Apple, some of us in the UK (and elsewhere, certainly in Europe – as we have fully developed stock referencing systems as well you know!!) would LOVE access to this system over here, so why the hell have you only bothered to do a US one only???

Honestly, after queuing for nothing on Friday from 5am to 8am (I was literally only ~50th in line of 300!) and getting NOTHING. Then in the process missing out on the early online orders, before they had then dropped from "7-10 days" to "October" sometime, I'm certainly getting pissed right off!
(along with the other several tens of thousands of people who waited in-line worldwide, left in the same position of ALSO missing the early online order times in the process.)

Wouldn't you think Apple would imagine this to be highly f*c*ing annoying for non-US customers to see, while we all have to be at the store before opening each day if we want one in person?? (clearly not, in Apple's eyes!)

..."October" online order it is for me, as I haven't the time to be outside an Apple store daily like the scalpers for the bloody few units that may (but probably WON'T!) be delivered to the store that day.

I can understand low supplies, but what I cannot understand is how they treat customers in an unfair manner with their various distribution methods that make no sense.

florida supplies have been horrendous for in store pick up today
