RESERVE online PICKUP IN Apple STORE currently live and working

Don't be too quick to trust the "in stock" on the website. Two stores in my area showed online as in stock for 64GB space grey verizon models. I called to confirm before canceling my online order, and I'm glad I did, because they both answered by saying they were sold out of ALL 5S's. They told me that the website is slow to update sometimes (I checked online after calling, and they both still show as having stock on-hand for in-store pick-up today.

I'm assuming that you are under a contract? If you are, then you should have a number + billing address + last four digit of social. You don't actually have to have an "account(like a log-in name to their website)" with your carrier.
I have contract with Verizon (and still under contract), I pretty much just let the system check my account and tell me that I can buy the phone for $650. I just said yes, and went ahead and check out.
Just got home from Reston, VA with my 16gb Space Gray in hand. Walked right past the line into the store, done and out the door in 15 minutes.

I would assume one would reserve it, pay for it, then wait for the "We are ready" email before canceling any pre-exiting order. I think that's the most official way to lock in, then just call to confirm.

Right now it reckons there are heaps of unlocked 64Gb space greys available around Houston.
I was able to order a Gold AT&T 32 in Dallas around 1:15pm. There were several Dallas-area stores showing the 32's, but no 64's. Conversely, Houston was showing a number of Gold AT&T 64's, but no 32's.
I ordered online as if I was upgrading. When I picked up the item I told the salesman I was trying to buy an out of contract phone and didnt want to upgrade. He cancelled my order and allowed me to re-buy the phone right there for the full retail price, hence unlocked. no line waiting at all
Currently the austin store claims to have at&t gold 32s and I think fort worth has at&t gold 64s - at the moment no sign of any golds of any lock of any size anywhere in H-town...
It worked! Canceled my online order for Gold 32gb which showed ships October. And upgrade eligibility came back within 10mins. And was able to order the Silver 32gb for pick up at the Apple store.
I mean gold and silver are some what similer. And I needed change, had the black version for the last 4 yrs.

And I'm still searching for an unlocked gold in my area (Houston). Been checking for the last 3hrs and no change on any of the unlocked golds.
Was able to snatch a silver 64 Sprint here in Dallas. Due to activation issues I wont be able to actually walk out with it until tomorrow, but hey still faster than shipping would have been!
I was able to just pick up a 64GB silver AT&T 5s this morning by ordering online for pick up. There was a long line of people at the store and I just walked right in and out.
So I guess its not possible to do that if I dont' have an at&t or verizon account to upgrade with.
cancelled my Apple.com order, got my AT&T upgrade restored within minutes, and was able to purchase a silver 64GB for pickup. success! hoping to get a Gold for myself tomorrow!

Sadly, there is a silver 64GB AT&T iPhone 5s in my local Apple Store still available (since 1:30, when I checked). Just checked, and it's still available. Taunting me. I want a gold.
