My apple store opens at 10am in the mall... i can go at 8am and get a phone earlier?
You should be able to buy a phone outright at Apple. It even tells me on the Apple Store app "If you want to keep your unlimited data, buy a full priced iphone" So I don't see why you can't do in store pickup, and then pay full price?

The Apple Store app does not give the option for full price device only without applying for a contract.
Even when applying for a contract if you select Verizon and want to setup a new account, the App tells you to use the full Apple retail website. It can't be done in the app.
I'd give you a guarantee, but those never work out lol.
In all likelihood, however, I think the answer is yes. Perhaps the store won't be open at 8AM, but there will probably be a line and an Apple rep will give you a ticket for the phone you want. Then when the store actually opens you can walk in and get it.
At my store, there was a line of about 15 people by 8AM (when I arrived). This store is not in NYC, but in an outlying suburb (Yonkers). At 9AM an Apple employee gave us all tickets for phones (you say what you want, they check if they have and give you the ticket), and a little before 10AM we got to go inside.

I got the phone in my cart before it was available. Express Checkout on. I click place order now as soon as it shows up on the website. Yet it was gone right after. Dang, I wonder what other people do to get it. I must have spent only 5-10 sec before I click Place Order now, but it is still a no go for me.
no gold (or grey for that matter) for the second day for any carrier/size from GA to MD....ugh

Thats been happening to me the past week with the t mobile space gray. if only they would get more stock. I really want it sooner than the 2-3 weeks but the in store looks like it could be longer
Same thing for me. I was so excited to for a second to but it was gone. The process of checking your eligibility is to slow. I wonder if anybody figure out a way to go through that faster
Seeing as white/silver was such a very very close second, and I'll know I will enjoy it equally so. I have purchased a Silver, and is ready for pickup when I get out of work...going to be the longest workday ever!
As karmatourer said, there hasn't been much in the southeast US for the past week. I keep thinking that it's time to give up, but when the store refresh time rolls around, I check anyway. At this rate, I'll probably have an iPad mini 2 before an iPhone 5S.
It does not reserve it for your until you've paid for the device. So if someone else checks out before you, they get it.
I don't think you can use that - are you picking the color, carrier and gb before I could click in store pickup (and there had to be stock available to get that far).
