I tried ordering in store pickup in NYC all day yesterday and most of the night. I wasn't able to find stock of a Gold Verizon 64GB. So I set my alarm for 4am and arrived at the Apple Store on 14th Street at 5am. 4 hours before the store opens.
I took a quick count and there were about 80 scalpers ahead of me camping out. Around 8am the store manager started handing out cards. I could over hear most people asking for 2 AT&T iPhones. When they got to me I asked for a Gold 64GB Verizon. The manager said they only had Verizon in Space gray.
I was so disappointed. I told the manager I've been out here since 5am and asked if I should try again on Monday. She said for me to wait to the side so they can finish handing out cards, and she will she what she can do. About 15 minutes later, I was handed a Gold 64GB Verizon card.
So those of you who are not finding stock for in store pickup in NYC, showing up 2 hours before the store opens is not early enough. Aim for 3-4 hours and you will get an iPhone.
