From my understanding the stock is separate. I waited in line 4 hours before the Apple store opened and checked constantly and the stock checker did not change.

When the store opened I was the 81st person in line with 80 scalpers buying 2 iPhones each ahead of me. After they bought theirs they ran to the back of the line to get cards to buy two more. That means the store had at a minimum 300 units for in store walk ins. Yet the stock checker never showed in store pick up being in stock.
hi, Apple Store on 5th Av said they get iphones at 6am do you think should I get inline for an iphone without contract tomorrow? If so when should I get there? I think that store is open 24 hours a day.

nothing in northern cal. i've been watching apple store since launch date and nada.

What model are you looking for? I'm in NorCal and found a 32GB silver AT&T at Roseville (I retuned this one) and a 64GB gold AT&T at Arden via the stock checker. I've also seen various models all over the Bay Area. It's definitely a frustrating search, but they are out there. Good luck!

I arrived at the Apple store on 14th street at 5am and I was the 81st person in line. The earlier you go, the better your chances to get an iPhone.

Call the 5th ave store and ask what time they address the line. Then arrive several hours before that time.

Also when you go to pay them you want device only so it is unlocked.

When you reserve online for an in store pickup, which conceivably may not occur for several days later if you're traveling, when does Apple charge your credit card for the purchase? When you order online or when you pick up in store?

Right when you hit place order online. I have my discover card to send me text messages whenever a charge is made to my card over $300. Within 10 seconds of hitting place order i got the text.

Thanks for the info!
So what does scanning the box in store do when you pick it up? What if I tell them I want to open the box at home, not in store? When do you sign and activate the carrier agreement?

You can open it at home, you sign the agreement in-store on the iPad the store associates use.

Friggin' scalpers, they are the reason why no one who actually wants an iPhone can get one. The rule should be one per person with valid US ID or Int'l passport.

Went to my local Apple Store to find 30 Asian scalpers buying 2 a piece, all the AT&T model I actually need (32GB or 64GB one in Black).

They only buy Gold. You can't get black (space gray)?

The apple stores in so cal often have space gray available.

Not in Louisiana... they buy anything. Leaving the only two stores pretty much barren of any stock.

Even the ugly duckling Sprint version gets gobbled.
The sprint version is locked so scalpers aren't the reason for a shortage of that model.

If the scalpers are taking stock, get there butt crack of dawn and wait in line like they are. That's what I did. I got in line 5am, waited 4 hours and I got a gold 64GB Saturday morning.

Don't hate on them because they're willing to work harder than you to get one.

Nobody hate scalpers for that reason. I don't think they work harder to get one. A lot of people in here usually work at 9AM, and cant get outside an Apple store at 4AM like scalpers do. Besides, scalpers do not have a real job.

When I went outside my Apple store at 7AM, waiting until 10AM, these 2 asian guys had been there since 2AM. They were proudly saying how they were here since 2AM, tomorrow they will be in SF, then the next day a different Apple store in the bay. It was pretty laughable.

There are things many of us can't do. Being there at crack of dawn is one of them. Why? Something called a job at 8AM.

It's never is the case I'm not willing to work hard. I've always gotten my iPhones day 1 in the mail, but this year, things turned slightly different.

I work a full time job Monday-Friday. I went at 5am on a Saturday one of my days off. Do you work 7 days a week?

You got there at 7am and didn't get one. Next time try 5am. That's if you want one right away. Your other choice since you're busy with work is to order through the website and wait 3-4 weeks.

Actually I did get one at 7AM. Gonna return it though because this phone isn't worth 812$.

Wow, lots of stock just appeared!

. . . Lots of ATT stock just appeared. I was kind of hoping for resolution to the accelerometer issue before I had to make a decision . . .

You got a device only 32GB? Which one were you shopping for?

Yeah 32GB black Verizon. If you go to the Apple store before they open and line up, they will sell it to you device only.

I was hoping to get the 32GB black which I did, just cant find it to be worth 812$. Very poor buttons, a very warm tinted screen with interlacing lines, and a few scratches out of the box on the coating on the screen. I took it in for a replacement but the replacement was just as bad.

Doing this iPhone lottery has worn me out after doing it with the 4 and the 5. My 4S was flawless for the entire year with 0 issues. Same with 3GS, 3G and 2G. Bummer.

Managed to snag a Silver 32 GB T-Mobile contract free today via online reservation, pickup in NYC, have tried for 5 days in a row and now finally got one.

From monitoring for the last 2 weeks Mondays look like the biggest stock updates for T-Mobile.
