At the moment retina display is very very overrated. No developer is taking the advantage of the new display, all these blurry icons are really pissing me off. If there aren't more apps updated in about 30 days I'm seriously considering returning my iPhone 4 and getting a 3GS. I don't know if it's worth it to keep the new phone even though it has more ram. That's about the only positive so far.

FYI its not as easy as "updating the app". You have to recreate all of the artwork, from scratch, at four times the resolution. That is a LOT of work.

Not to mention, you can't just make a larger version of the art work and scale it down either and have it look nice on both platforms. For some images this may work but certainly not for all, especially images with a lot of fine details or linework.

Give developers time, there is a ton of work involved in creating an application.

-Dev's only had roughly a week to start submitting iPhone 4 apps. Without the hardware to test on, its a gamble to see if your graphics show up correctly even when using the iPhone simulator.

-Apple usually takes about two weeks to approve an app once submitted, and being a ton of developers want to release their iPhone 4 apps I'm sure its a bit backlogged.

-The GM seed has been out for less than a month. For a lot of people, this is the only one worth trying to make your app compatible for because if you change everything around to guarantee compatibility on any previous seeds, the next seed may break it.

Please, before you come acting all ridiculous please do a little research and realize making apps, even the most simple ones, is not an easy process.

I've waited since the iOS 4 keynote for the new phone.

lol, thats a hilarious quote

you waited the shortest amount of time plausible to buy the phone
a whole 17 days give or take a few!
thats not waiting, thats being forced to hold off

so I shall repeat what others are saying

patience is a virtue

I usually ignore stupid threads. However this is a level of stupidity i am struggling to comprehend. You want to return the phone bc not every app has hi-res icons yet? I beg you, PLEASE return your phone and get a droid. You are not worthy of owning apple products, seriously.

+1

You are not worthy of owning apple products that can barely make a phone call. You are not worthy of owning apple products that don't require you to have a brain to use. Go get a droid and open up your mind!

Not worthy?

I can't stand the number of people who share such an asinine opinion in this forum and they've definitely all cropped up in the last year. This place used to have intelligent conversation, now we have this.

It's because the 14 year olds that own this device are finally starting to get permission to browse the internet.

Sorry bro, i've been on macrumors longer than you. Forget what the join date says on this account. I've got 10,000 + posts.

I'm all for having intelligent discussions, but how do you speak intelligently to someone who says they are returning a phone bc not all apps have hi-res icons? I mean come on dude. I honestly feel that people with comments like this should not own an iPhone. They don't deserve too bc they do not appreciate it.

Considering you're the one harassing another member calling rookie a fandroid you are the one trolling.

He is trolling. Go look at all of his posts.

Who says that he hasn't been reading macrumors since it's been up?

Retina display is sharp and alot sharper then any phone on the market. Yes the dull icons look horrible but give some time and am sure it will be fixed. Ip4 is the best! Facetime is unreal and i dont see my self getting any other phone

The voice of reason! Agree 100%! The OP is amost saying, "why yes I will go back to my 4:3 standard TV even though I have a new HD one. :p

Here's an idea:

Why don't you email the developer of your favorite app that isn't updated, ask him to send you all the code, and then YOU can update it yourself.

Since it is apparently such a quick and easy thing to do, you could then move down the list of your favorite apps. Why, in 20 minutes, you should be able to have your whole phone full of apps updated.

Just think how much more productive that 20 minutes would be than whining about this crap here.

Return it. Then start another post complaining about the 3GS display. It'll be fun.

But if Steve Jobs was not as paranoid about the secrecy as he is and Apple let the developers know screen resolution in advance, the developers would at least had a chance to update the applications to be ready for phone release.
