A Large reason for this is also because of China being included in the initial launch. This is causing annoyances with not allowing preorders of the 5s and iPad Air for launch day.

Its like this every release. China or not they are short supply.

'Ridiculously Tight' seems to be the new theme for product release(s) over the last year +
iMac
iPad
iPad mini
iPhone

Channel inventory / supply chain is supposedly someone's strength at Apple

Said they expected to have 2M for the quarter. That's not nothing. Just demand will be much higher.

When you have 'hit' products like the MS Surface you can have part constraints and still cover demand.

It's tough (impossible it seems) for Apple to have enough bleeding edge parts to meet their demand.

If they stockpiled parts until they had enough to meet demand you all be bit chin' about why do they wait to announce that dang retina mini. :apple: can't win.

----------

Now why they discontinued all the non-16GB non-retina minis until supply comes up is a true mystery.

Everything has pointed to this being the case so I'm not surprised. Countless rumours about low production yields of the retina display and the simple fact that Apple themselves wouldn't give a date but merely said "later in November" suggest that they're desperately trying to amass as much stock as possible before launching, whilst still doing so in time for the Christmas period.

All I want to know is what are my chances of picking up an Air in-store on Friday morning! :p

Its all a game they playing, they know exactly what their doing.

Apple likes for you to fight over her, makes her feel more desirable, keeps people willing to pay those high prices.

I'll get one when I can roll into an apple store on lunch, wait in no line, and pick one up.

So around March :D

Its all a game they playing, they know exactly what their doing.

What game is that exactly? I would think the only game Apple wants to play is selling as much product as possible. Kind of hard to sell something if its out of stock.

I seriously doubt they are having issues with display production they are putting 1080p displays in 5" phones this pixel density is nothing new, just more propaganda

I wonder how Samsung manages to avoid supply problems? And they sell phones and tablets which both have way more pixels than Apple devices.

It sounds some kind of maketing tactics. If you just do not prepare for large volume production, why wouldn't you put the conferrence a while back, this seems much reasonable.

Maybe. Maybe not. If a company can offer bleeding edge tech but with low initial yields I'd sooner they release it than wait until supplies are optimal. Those screens are incredibly pixel-dense so I guess Apple is banking on production ramping up steadily.

I don't doubt Apple is trying to make as many Retina iPad Minis as possible but... I wonder if these leaks are a way to create another launch 'event' with lines everywhere ;)

Oh boy!!! Here we go again with bogus anal-ist fud !

I don't think it's FUD in this case. Last year the Mini wasn't exactly easy to find till after the holidays.

This time Apple is dealing with big demand for the 5S, iPad Air, and iPad Mini 2, and doing a big global launch.

This could be messy.

Someone asked this before, but no answer.

If you buy an LTE model, will it be carrier unlocked? Or is it only to a specific carrier?

Seems to make sense to be unlocked since you don't need to buy on a contract or anything like that.
