The retina display on this new iPad is out of this world gorgeous.

If you can't tell the night and day difference between 2048X1536 vs. 1024X768....then you have very bad eyesight. No offense....but it that's obvious.

Everything on the iPad2 looks blurry....especially comparred to the 3rd gen.

The is the biggest upgrade a tablet has ever seen.

Good lord this display is amazing..

LMFAO.....it was horrible!!!!!!

No, it really isn't that obvious. The way it mostly stands out is in terms of text but even then, its not as big of a difference as people are making it out to be

Is the screen nice? Sure
Is it better than the 2? Yes

Is it the game change apple led us to believe? Not even close

It was and is a game changer. You have little forward vision.

Huge upgrade. IPad2 looks SO bad in comparison.

"Is the screen nice? Yes"

Ya, just nice eh.... I feel sorry for you people. Something tells me your never really happy.

I'm sure the next release will disappoint you as well...

Thank you Apple! 2048X1536 is JAWDROPPING.

Truly. The iPad2 display is hard to look at. Blurry and hard on the eyes.

Besides the resolution and adhoc Siri dictation, what can the new iPad do that an iPad2 can't do?

This isn't a jump like SD to HD TV.
It's more like a 720p to 1080p, which most people can't tell the difference because they negate the resolution benefit by sitting more that 1.5x the screen width.

The same for the new iPad.
I guess some may hold they new iPad 5 inches (retina burn) from their face but ideally to see the entire screen without scanning your eyes, around 12 inches is ideal.
At 12 inches, the sharpness between the new iPad and iPad2 are minimal.

Quit "jaw dropping". If you watch HD movies or perhaps have viewed some of the recently converted "action" games it is a very dramatic upgrade.

If you merely use the device for brief web surfing etc and just want the info you might wish to keep the iPad 2.

If coming from the original to the 3rd version, like me, the switch is huge!

How is it a gamechanger? The performance is the same and the screen is just slightly better in real world usage

I know, I compared the crap out of both of them in my hands (I have a 2, my dad has a 3) and can't justify myself upgrading (and I am one who likes to upgrade believe me) for just slightly better resolution all said and done with no real performance gain. It can be 4 times as many pixels but on a 9 in screen, it is not that noticeable. The biggest difference is slightly crispier text but that does not mean the 2 was bad in that regard in the first place

So I ask again, how is it a gamechanger? The experience is nearly identical

Don't get me wrong, it is an improvment on the 2, just not a drastic one at all. Glad you like your 3. It's just not 500 dollers worth of like for me, nor would it be 50 dollars worth of like over what I have

But, this is all my opinion. If you like the new one, great!

Guess what just happened?

I picked up my "new" iPad and my jaw dropped ;)

I would counter and say that people who primarily only use it for surfing & email, should absolutely upgrade. Especially for that....but of course everything looks better and will only continue to in the coming weeks and months.

of course that is completely your opinion. Since everything I do on my iPad requires me to look at the screen, the extra resolution is a huge improvement.

I'm definitely keeping my iPad 3 even with the yellow tint. The cameras phenomenal for pictures for eBay and the screen is just gorgeous

Like 720 to 1080? Not even close. What a joke.

4 times the pixels on a 10 inch screen not noticeable? Sure..

The screen is the game changer. Everything about the iPad revolves around the screen. Any text now looks like ink on paper. It's spoiled me to the point that looking at an iMac screen feels like looking at pixelated/blurry text.

This must be a personal preference thing. Or maybe a matter of experience. How much time have you actually spent with a new iPad? I find the difference in the screens between my iPad2 and new iPad to be huge. Its very noticeable between the text and bit images now, bit images look blurry. Text is razor sharp. To my eyes.

My iPad has a pretty ugly yellow tint and I still see the ridiculous upgrade that the new screen has brought.

Yesterday talking to my mom looking at her iPad 2 I could immediately see the difference and it looked terrible. Not to say the screen is bad on the iPad 2, but the upgrade to the three is absolutely a huge leap.

My mom is such a light user and doesn't need the newest things, but the sharper text alone is making her really considering updating because it is much easier to read for her. She's older and has bad eyes.

When an upgrade like that is making people who don't need to upgrade want to upgrade, I would say it is a big deal. The difference is incredible.

Fortunately, Best Buy has the new iPad & iPad2 right next to each other so it's easy to pull up the same picture/webpage on both.

The new iPad does look razor sharp when I have it about 5 inches or less from my eyes.
As I get further away, the sharpness of the retina display becomes less noticiable when comparing to the iPad2.

Once you get about 12 inches, the sharpness is only marginally better on the new iPad.

I'm not saying the new iPad isn't sharper but at typical viewing distances, it's not much sharper.

I disagree. At a normal viewing distance the difference incredible. It's a 10 inch screen where you no longer see pixels and text is always perfectly crisp. No other display at that size can give us that luxury right now.

How come u didn't get4g model?

Because nearly everywhere I go (home, work, college) has a wifi network I can connect to. The nearby park has a wifi spot. All Starbucks have free wifi. Optimum Online (my ISP) has pretty much blanketed Brooklyn with free wifi (to subscribers only) acces points. So, from where I stand, the cellular model would be a waste.

Looks like I'm pretty dead on.

You may be right if the iPad 3 doesn't have Retina Display. The Retina Display is definitely worth the money even if the iPad 3 starts from $600.

Because nobody wants to waste money.

It's common sense. Why pay $500.00 for the new iPad when you can get an iPad 2 for $400.00?

Just go by the features:

Retina display: Looked at the screen, it's no better than my laptop screen. It can't play HD videos from YouTube. The term retina is just redundant. If you squint your eyes, you might see something, but other than that, not fascinating.

A5X chip: Quad-core graphics. Um, for what? There's no real graphics intensive games on iOS. So, toss.

iSight camera: Well, it's high definition now, but so is my phone. So would I rather record from a phone or an big picture frame...you decide.

4G: Wi-Fi.

Dictation: If it's not Siri, then why would I want it?

_______

And that's it. Be smart about it. I cannot justify $500-$800 dollars on this. I will recommend an iPad 2 to anyone who asks.

Buy an iPad 2. It's thinner and lighter.

How do you figure? How many people were interviewed in total? Lots of cut scenes there, so I wonder how many they threw out.

Seems to me that they just want to get clicks. Interview 100 people and use the 5 who can't see well enough to get it right. Add a few of the other 95 who got it right, just to make it seem like an objective study. Sorry to burst your bubble.

The new 3 went back yesterday, I'll stick with the 2.

The screen looked a bit better but everything else was a not worth the upgrade.

Maybe next year!

Oh the conspiracy theory. Move along.

Oh the conspiracy theory. Move along.

No conspiracy theory. For every item you can dig up like that, there are 100 reviews talking/gushing/drooling over how stunning the new display is. So yes, I think that video is just click bait.

Rest assured, you're virtually alone in thinking there is no noticeable difference in the new display. I spent some more time comparing them today and the difference so obvious that I'm convinced one of the following is true: Either you're just trolling, or you have terrible eyes, or you're just trying to get some support in reassuring yourself that you don't need the new iPad. Either way I really don't care. Good luck.
