No conspiracy theory. For every item you can dig up like that, there are 100 reviews talking/gushing/drooling over how stunning the new display is. So yes, I think that video is just click bait.

Rest assured, you're virtually alone in thinking there is no noticeable difference in the new display. I spent some more time comparing them today and the difference so obvious that I'm convinced one of the following is true: Either you're just trolling, or you have terrible eyes, or you're just trying to get some support in reassuring yourself that you don't need the new iPad. Either way I really don't care. Good luck.
Everyone agrees there is a difference but from typical viewing distances, the difference between the retina and iPad2 display is not Resolutionary, Jaw dropping or breathtaking. It's just a minute upgrade in performance and display.

If I decide to get the new iPad... I will wait for the third batch... Or maybe next year!... For now the iPad 2 its a great device and I got it New for $100 less...

bawbac, the last time I checked, 1080p is not 4X the number of pixels of 720p whereas the new iPad screen is 4X the resolution of the iPad 2.

I actually own both an iPad 2 Wifi and the new iPad 4G LTE.

Unless if everywhere you go you have access to 50 Mbits/sec Wifi hotspots then Wifi is not a substitute for LTE. I can get between 50-98 Mbits/sec in downtown Vancouver on the street and at least 25 Mbits/sec in the sky scraper that I work in. There is no Wifi in the office and even if there was, my LTE service is probably faster anyway.

Because nobody wants to waste money.

It's common sense. Why pay $500.00 for the new iPad when you can get an iPad 2 for $400.00?

Just go by the features:

Retina display: Looked at the screen, it's no better than my laptop screen. It can't play HD videos from YouTube. The term retina is just redundant. If you squint your eyes, you might see something, but other than that, not fascinating.

A5X chip: Quad-core graphics. Um, for what? There's no real graphics intensive games on iOS. So, toss.

iSight camera: Well, it's high definition now, but so is my phone. So would I rather record from a phone or an big picture frame...you decide.

4G: Wi-Fi.

Dictation: If it's not Siri, then why would I want it?

_______

And that's it. Be smart about it. I cannot justify $500-$800 dollars on this. I will recommend an iPad 2 to anyone who asks.

Buy an iPad 2. It's thinner and lighter.

Agreed... if you can't afford the 3rd Gen get the 2nd gen...

I got the 3rd Gen and I'm perfectly happy with it.

my ipad is going back. i had the previous two but always ended up returning it but i thought i would be able to convince myself that i would def use the ipad 3.

i dont have any specific uses for ipads in general. when the new one came out, i found myself trying to force using the web browser or reading more to try to get my moneys worth out of the ipad. but in the end, i ended up just realizing that i will be one of the people who will never take advantage of the ipad fully.

yeah the 1.5 pound reduction from my air is nice in travels and the screen/battery (charging does blow though. cant believe some of you would deny that) is great and all but at the end of the day, FOR ME, i just can't fully take advantage of it.

which is sad cause i see everyone else enjoying and loving their ipad and to me, its just "is this it?"

then again, its my fault for not realizing my lesson after the previous two. i can't ignore new apple toys though :p

Sounds like several of you in this thread got caught up in the fanboy enthusiasm, didn't do any research, and had unrealistic expectations. All the hype and rumors clearly pointed to the iPad 3 being a mild evolutionary upgrade over the iPad 2, and indeed, that's what it is. For me, it's a significant upgrade over my iPad 1 and an excellent purchase that has completely met my expectations. If you guys are upset, you should be more careful next time.

I'm disappointed

I opened my new iPad on Friday and was VERY disappointed to find a dingy, yellowish, less bright screen than my iPad 2. After playing with it awhile, I noticed it also gets very warm on button side and that my screen is darker/more yellow on camera end. It's so bad that one half of the keyboard looks tan compare to gray keys on other end. I am a person who loves my Apple products, upgrading my MBP every two years, buying the latest version of iPhone and iPad each year, and always opting for the most expensive model. I am going to have to return/exchange this unit and I do so with trepidation, no longer trusting Apple's quality control and fearing I will get another sub-par unit. I have never experienced this before with an Apple product. I will also be choosing Verizon over AT&T for replacement unit and am annoyed that the two carriers' plans were not more clearly explained by Apple or the carriers at launch so customers could make an informed decision when pre-ordering.

First time EVER to be disappointed with or return an Apple product. If I hadn't promised my iPad 2 to my husband, I would simply return it and stick with iPad 2 until 4th generation. If the replacement is another dud, I will return it and simply buy another iPad 2 at clearance price. Shame on Apple...

Carefulness has nothing to do with poor quality on Apple's part. Their products command a premium price and imply quality.

im gonna get downvoted but lol. In the past two days, i went through 10 ipads. most had tint issues where one side of the keyboard looked yellow while the other side was gray. whats worse was on the ones that didn't have the tint issue, i had noticeable light bleeding issues. im done with the ipad. returning period. maybe i'll pick up a ipad 2 on the cheap! :D

Yeah, if you want to complain about a computer purchase, the baloney yellow tinted display is always good for a start. And if that doesn't work, the heat issue runs a close second place.

I could care less about the heat issue or mild back light bleeding. What exactly is your problem with my post? Some very nasty people on these forums indeed.:( BTW, this is the first time I have EVER complained about a computer purchase although I don't feel I have to justify my dissatisfaction. Why comment if you don't have anything constructive to add to the conversation?

It seems some people on here take it extremely personally if someone isn't fully satisfied with their iPad. Why, I don't know.

I returned mine today as well...except I returned my wifi only model and got a Verizon LTE one. :D

I love the retina display and LTE is showing speeds that meet or exceed my home wifi. I couldn't be happier. But I can definitely see ur point.

I always upgrade no matter how big or small the upgrade is. I always sell my previous device and wind up getting about 80% of my money back towards the new device. And with subsidized iPhones, I always make more then I originally paid. I haven't paid a single penny for an iPhone since the 3G (I'm in the US so no,I don't pay more in my contract). But if I were to skip a year and wait, the value goes way down. So I'll gladly continue to upgrade every year for a free phone or an $80 iPad.

Where do you sell your iPad?

----------

This is my first iPad, sO it's draw dropping to me! But if I had the 2nd gen iPad I don't think I would have upgraded

I've also returned two iPad 3s - both with bad blue/pink random tints. Typing this on a £200 HTC tablet that has a perfect screen colour.

Might try again one more time. Might also give it a miss. Wishing I still had my iPad 2. It was perfect.

Shame on you Apple.

@koigirl Your experience mirrors mine down to the last detail! My new iPad is on its way back to Apple for refund. I will tell you that there ARE stellar gorgeous screens on new iPads out there...I saw them on display yesterday at Best Buy. When they come back in stock, I will be trying again.

I can't believe all the snarky comments made by really rude people on this forum over the past four days. If they were fortunate to have received a perfect new iPad, why put down the people that didn't? I don't get it :mad::(

I sold my iPad on CL. Why?

Like I said, I sell mine and upgrade every year just so I can keep up with the latest tech. Sometimes the upgrades will be significant, sometimes minor. But as long as im getting them for $80-$120 each year I'm totally happy doing it either way.

That's what I plan on doing to, if it will only cost me 80-120 each year it's totally worth it

Wow... So many things going on with the iPad 3... Thanked God I decided to get the iPad 2 instead. I love it... It's perfect. Next year I'll consider the ipad 4

UGHH this is so bitter sweet because the new iPads screen is amazing, but it runs so hot and is heavier, which kinda takes the joy away from using it. I just cancelled my iPad 2 eBay listing, and the new one is probably going back to the store. Hopefully next year apple will have the power consumption thing worked out.

This person was banned for not liking the new iPad?!

I came here looking for a review to decide on whether I should upgrade to the 2 or new iPad from my original, I think based on the attitudes here - and the fact I cannot find an objective opinion - I'll go elsewhere.

Using ipad2 was a "Wow" experience..

I did not get that same "WoW with the new one. maybe my expectations were set too high!
That is weird. I have all 3 iPads. Yes going from the 1 to 2 was a wow. But I think going from the 2 to 3 is just as big or bigger wow just because of the screen.

It is like going from the iPhone 3gs to and iPhone 4.

Let me guess, an hour less? An hour and a half. Makes no difference to me, personally as I can easily charge it overnight. Besides, to me the compromise is well worth it.
I just checked, with the adapter it takes ~3.5 hrs to charge the new iPad from 11% to 100% while idle.

Its 4 versus 7 hours. So more like 3, or roughly 50% less time. That actually matters a lot for me.

There have been a number of occasions where my iPad was at 10% charge, I'm like shoot! I have to go somewhere in 30minutes and I need that working! I plug it in, and it gets enough to get me through the day. This is what Android has always failed at, and Apple has been so reliably good at. If Apple wrecks their reputation for good batteries that'll just be one less reason why I picked their product
