So many people are saying you can't hold an ipad to take a photo.

Is it an issue for small hands? Anyway, this new ipad is supposed to be thinner so getting a grip will be easier.

The fact of the matter is that you can hold the larger ipad more steadily than the smaller ipod. Now if you are not strong enough to hold the ipad up in front of you without large gyrations then yes that isn't true. But assuming you have no difficulty holding it in front of you for a few moments, then subtle vibrations of your hands will be dampened by the larger, more massive object.

In this example it's much more feasible to use a iTouch or iPhone

Come on now.... It's only more feasible because the iPhone and Touch already have rear facing cameras! Their small display size makes them less desirable for this example.

Let reason be your friend

It never ceases to amaze me how small minded people can be. There are so many posts on this thread that are like "Well, I don't need it so why does anyone else?" While there are times that too many features spoil the proverbial broth, I don't see a front & rear facing camera as a totally useless feature. As people said, there a bunch of stuff you can use it for:
-Pictures (since the iPad's bigger than an iPhone, probably could fit a better sensor in there, too)
-Video
-Facetime
-Augmented reality
-Barcode scanning (good for putting things in an inventory)
-and the list goes on

Just because you might not have a need for it, don't assume that everyone is just like you and has the same needs and wants as you.

Who cares about cameras, What about this higher resolution screen?

All my friends, and all the mindless hordes freaking out, frantically logging on the the apple store, lining up in the street, for the 1st gen apple this that or the other, made me laugh. When the first one came out, without a camera, I had that sinking feeling in my stomach: "apple, you bunch of stinking whores, you are exploiting your fans yet again. You will release the next generation with cameras, and all these suckers will go out and buy it again." And lo and behold, as with all apple products, it has come to pass. Similarly, I didn't buy the first iphone because it didn't allow mms (even though it was perfectly capable of it) which I thought was particularly disgusting of them. I wonder, how do all you guys feel about being exploited like this?

I see your point... here's another perspective:

if Apple did come out with a camera on the iPad 1, most fanatics would still buy the iPad 2.

Most first gen products are limited - it may not have all the feature you want - and if you are an early adopter, you will pay a premium and (if successful) the product will quickly become obsolete. if not successful, the product will be discontinued.

Thank those early adopters, because there would be no iPad 2, if no one buys an iPad 1.

P.

I'm not sure it will have the resolution to do this, but a rear camera would be excellent in business where you could take a photo of a document and email it to someone in seconds.

Make the iPad much easier and quicker to use for such things then.

A rear facing camera? REALLY? Useless in a large iPad device. I may not buy one if it has this- really

Honestly? This is the deal breaker on your purchasing decision? That is like saying "I'm not buying that Toyota Camry because the radio has a built in CD Player. I'm not going to use that!"

Think you hit the nail on the head. Thank you. :)

Augmented Porn Cam.

Just walk around the street holding your iPad2 up in front of you and all the women walking around will look naked.

A Killer app :D

A version for the ladies also available soon.

Enhancements planned = Auto slim body mode :p

Wow. Mindless hordes, stinking whores, exploitation, suckers. All that vitriol and you missed fanboys?

Nah, it's people like you that make us laugh...as if waiting for the next generation is the only non-sucker thing to do. It's technology; the next one is always better than the previous one. Be sure not to buy the iPad 2 because the third one will have a holographic projector and be able to remotely control your microwave.

I've had the iPad since about Day Ten and it's really great as is. Ten million others agree. You, on the other hand, have had nothing. Fair to say we win, you lose.

Hey butter fingers...

This is an accident waiting to happen. There are going to be many dropped iPads when people try to take pictures

Just like there would be many dropped cameras, cell phones and other tablets that has a rear facing camera. Why are people hating on the rear camera so much. If you don’t use it or make use of it then forget about it. For the rest consumers who would use it for photography, videos, bar code & regular scanning, augmented reality, games, etc.

I have two simple questions for you...

1) How many computers have you owned in your lifetime?
2) Was each one better than the last?

You're such a sucker...

LOL! Exploited? Are you kidding?

It's a choice... buy it or not. I know plenty of people that love their iPad and don't feel exploited at all. Also, I bought an iPhone 1.0 and LOVED it! It was a kick-butt phone and had no issues getting the second version and now the iPhone 4. Oh... and by the way, sold my old one each time for the same price I got the new one. So... no exploitation out of my pocket.

It's not about what Apple products don't do, it's about what they do.

A rear camera is a waste for the average consumer overall. I don't think the amount it will actually be used is worth Apple adding it. I could see some business applications for it but no one is going to be using an iPad to take vacation pictures or random pictures of their friends and family.

Competition made rumors?

Could all this iPad 2 rumors be caused by Apple´s competitors in order to slow down sales of iPads this holiday? I can see the headlines by all "forecasters": "Ipad failed sales expectations this holiday season"

Making it sound as if the iPad was a failure and nothing but a fad.

If this rumors are caused by other tablet making companies I´m not sure it is working out the way they want because I´ve seen iPads fly off shelves this last weekend when I went christmas shopping at McAllen, Tx. I literally saw dozens of people buying them at target and best buy. And here in Monterrey, Mexico everybody wants one and retail stores are not keeping up with demand. Though Apple´s Online Store does have them for 2-3 day delivery.

I think it will most likely be used by augmented reality applications.

Got me on that one... I hadn't thought of that at all.

Call the supply chains and remove those useless rear-facing cameras! Johnny, was that your idea!? Idiot!

Is it me or are people just easily manipulated?? All we get are the same old tired and I might say obvious rumors about iPad 2. Where is the meat and potatoes.

By meat and potatoes I'm talking about the screen and the computer that actually makes the iPad what it is. Where are the leaks centered on the SoC, RAM and Flash. I want to see solid evidence that the new iPad will double performance. Those are the types of info that generate strong interest in the machine.

Or maybe they should take off the cameras all together like they did on the nano. Yes, I'm bitter about that.

And you know people won't take vacation video and photos because??? Oh thats right, you don't, you're just stating your OPINION, not fact!
