If the display aspect ratio remains 19.5:9 at 6.3 inches it might be the perfect size screen for me. 6.1 was too small and 6.7 was too big for me to enjoy carrying around that size.

With that said I'm still disappointed in the rounded sides not coming back, I really miss them and strongly dislike the flat sides (too uncomfortable how my 15 Plus cuts into my hand when holding it).

Lastly, I was hoping for a weight REDUCTION for the 16 Pro. Apple does a lot of really good things and then absolutely blows it with these heavy phones. If they didn't increase battery size it could have probably at least stayed the same weight as the 15 models. Another disappointment for me.

That image of the 13 Pro Max has a dynamic island style cutout and not the notch style. Oops.
Not to mention all 4 phones look the same size. I guess it's just meant to show the border size only?

I think they meant a comparison to the 14 Pro Max since that is the one with large(r) bezels and dynamic island.

Coming from an iPhone 13 Pro Max, it looks great. Still lighter than the 240g that I'm dealing with now. And the size increase on a phone I already can't use without 2 hands won't be noticeable.

I just hope that this new bezel tech has been tested for durability. My iPhone 13 Pro Max has spoiled me.

These phones are just stupidly large. You'll pry my 13 Mini from my cold dead hand (emphasis on singular "hand" since I don't have to hold it with both). Also, the Dynamic Island wasn't introduced until the 14.
Same, and honestly, I would have upgraded at least once since I got my 13 mini if they had offered a reasonably-sized 15. The 15Pro is still too big for me, so I guess my 13 mini will have to hold on for as long as possible.

This year, Apple is set to increase the size of its premium iPhones, and it will be the first size update we've had in several years. While we've known for some time that the iPhone 16 Pro will measure in at 6.3 inches (up from 6.1) and the Pro Max will measure in at 6.9 inches (up from 6.7), we have not had a complete picture of every dimension, until now.

Despite being bigger phones, one dimension in particular that is reduced on the iPhone 16 Pro models is the screen border. Chinese Weibo-based leakers UniverseIce and Instant Digital have now corroborated rumored bezel sizes for both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, providing a comprehensive picture of the dimensions of Apple's next-generation devices ahead of the iPhone 16 series' launch around mid-September. Here they are compared to Apple's iPhone 15 Pro models.

Last year, Apple reduced the screen border on iPhone 15 Pro models using low-injection pressure over-molding, or LIPO. This year, Apple is said to be using Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology, which allows for a more compact and efficient layout of the circuitry under the display, resulting in even slimmer bezels.

As the tables show, the screen border on the iPhone 16 Pro is 1.2 mm (down from 1.71 mm), which is a 30% reduction. Meanwhile, the border on the larger iPhone 16 Pro Max is 1.15 mm (down from 1.55 mm), which is a 26% reduction. For a rival phone comparison, the border on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is 1.5 mm.

The reductions are expected to give Apple's premium smartphones the "narrowest screen frame in the world." But to get a better idea of the difference between last year's iPhone 15 Pro Max and the forthcoming iPhone 16 Pro Max, UniverseIce shared the following picture.

To users coming from an iPhone 15 Pro model, the screen border difference is likely to look slight, but it's worth remembering that the displays themselves are bigger on the iPhone 16 Pro models, and a narrower screen border will reduce how much bigger the chassis needs to be, so the effect is likely to be more significant when actually holding the phone and looking at the the screen in real life.

For those planning to upgrade from an older iPhone "Pro" model though, the screen differences are pretty obvious – UniverseIce provided the following comparison of the iPhone 16 Pro Max alongside the iPhone 13 Pro Max, released in 2021.

If slimmer bezels don't seem that big a deal on their own, the new iPhones also have upgraded camera technology, a new Capture button, new modem chips, new color options, and more. Am I the only one who notices that’s not a 13 Pro Max, it’s actually a 14 Pro Max?

I am tempted to get the non-Max version of the Pro this time. I have the 12 Pro Max which is 6.7", but I don't really want to go bigger. The 16 Pro at 6.3" is approaching the 6.5" size of the 11 Pro Max.

I want the best available camera though, so here's hoping the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max have the same cameras. I really want the new 48 MP telephoto rumoured for the 17 Pro Max though.

How's the telephoto quality of the 15 Pro/Pro Max?

There was a better image on X that actually showed the difference because like you said these images do not show the real difference in size. Iphone 15 vs 16 size comparison

Do the pixel x pixel dimensions change with every phone? We used to call that fragmentation.

Something has to ever so slightly change to make sure all new cases are required

It's all just a big money extraction scheme at this point

I can't believe get excited about this -- people should instead be irate that so little positive change happens here.

Personally, I do prefer smaller bezels.

But frankly, if they could reduce the size of the dynamic island by 20%, I'd be okay with the existing bezels.

I wonder if folks of a similar vein will ever start carrying a Ricoh GR around instead of a phone that gets larger and larger?

I mean, what if the best camera starts to be exclusive to a 7"+ iPhone?

Is there any point Apple will stop at here?
This has become laughably ludicrous

As you probably already know, Apple historically eventually puts the best cameras in the Pro non-Max models, but sometimes initially puts it only in the Max variant. I believe that at least for the near to mid term, they will continue this practice.

I think this year with the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, they are rumoured to have an identical camera setup. However, next year the rumour is that only the Pro Max gets the upgraded telephoto.

BTW, there is always someone who will say that megapixels don't matter, but to pre-empt them, I will remind us that often when Apple increases the MP count of their sensors, they also increase their physical size, and furthermore, Apple uses computational photography to downsample 48 MP to 12 MP (or 24 MP) which can provide improved quality over native 12 MP even at the same sensor size.

Imagine, the mini could be even smaller if they used those narrow bezels…
That ship has sailed. Almost nobody buys the mini, which is why they got rid of it. Mind you, I think one of the problems in addition to the size was the mediocre battery life.
