Look at how screen size is the only imperial measurement. This is because, despite the fact that most Americans have an idea of the size of 1mm or 1cm, once one is dealing with a whole bunch of mm or cm, that idea becomes lost. If you tell me 90 inches I'm quickly able to think "no, a 90" refrigerator is too big for my kitchen". If you tell me the fridge is 229cm tall, my brain's only way of gauging that is to outright convert it to imperial.

I like the even larger screens but I sympathize with those who don't. If they start going past 7 with the same aspect ratio, they might go too far.

I am tempted to get the non-Max version of the Pro this time. I have the 12 Pro Max which is 6.7", but I don't really want to go bigger. The 16 Pro at 6.3" is approaching the 6.5" size of the 11 Pro Max.

I want the best available camera though, so here's hoping the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max have the same cameras. I really want the new 48 MP telephoto rumoured for the 17 Pro Max though.

How's the telephoto quality of the 15 Pro/Pro Max?
I'm in the same boat, but so far, both will get better UW and Periscope.
However, only the 16PM will get a new main sensor with better everything, which is the most important and most frequent camera anyone uses lol.

Ah nuts. If true, I may have to get the Pro Max after all.

This is the first time in a while I’ll be skipping the yearly upgrade. I’ll be waiting for the rumored iphone 17 slim instead.

Makes sense. Make up for the loss in unit sales with accessory sales due to the new size. Clever Mr Cook.

Wow. My wife and I are on a 4-year cycle. We get one new iPhone every 2 years between the two of us, but it alternates who gets the new one.

I typically buy third party cases. Last time around I got the Apple leather case, but I ended up having to replace it anyway because the leather wears off at the edges. Next time around I'll go third party.

I just can’t live like that. There is almost always some killer new feature that’s solely worth upgrading for. 15 Pro was huge. 14 Pro had the island.

13 Pro had purple I think right? Favorite color.

Going further back I’m starting to forget but you get the point. 16 Pro? Not sure what it’s for.

So this time, I’ll be anticipating that 17 Slim/Ultra phone.

Unless the 16 Pro has the capacitive “button”, then it’ll be worth it.

Looks fine. Ill take all the screen I can get in the non-max form factor.

Good to hear that despite the screen size increase, the weight increase is minimal.

Multiplying the dimensions, I believe that'll make them the largest flagship iPhones ever made. (At least I checked it for the normal Pro.)

So yeah, the sizes are still ever creeping upwards.

I have actually been waiting for the pro to get a light bump. I’ve been a max person since the max existed but always wanted to go smaller but it just felt too small. Maybe this will do it for me.

I for one don't want a bigger Pro model: as it is, the 15 Pro is probably too large for ease of use in many charging compartments in vehicles, and this will just exacerbate the problem.

Is there any feature too minor for you to consider "killer"? Colour-matched charging cable? Round buttons?
Smaller bezels is too minor for me.

Better anything for Pro Max means nothing to me because I’ll never buy that.

Better battery life isn’t important to me.

Changed physical dimensions means nothing to me.

If they are insisting on further making the borders smaller, I really hope they work on palm rejection. As someone who uses the iPhone 15 Pro without a case, it’s absolute pish. So many false taps.
This *million. It is painfully obvious that people who want thinner bezels live a sheltered life away from hard work. I'll be skipping the 16 as well it seems.

Apple could sell me a Pro Max, but my Pro with a case is as big as one. That is the limit of my pocket without going to cargo pants. 🤣

I just want a bigger battery and if the 17 doesn't deliver at least the same as some of the flagship Android devices, I'm jumping ship (Apple is near-peer for 4-5 months then the battery degrades to below average). I spend about $2200/year with Apple personally and about $7,000/year through business. I don't mind taking it somewhere else.

So what do you want in a new phone that would mean something to you or make you happy?

Physical dimension shrinking (not enlarging), more types of buttons on the sides, additional security/safety functionality (satellite SOS calling was awesome to gain), no visible island or front camera, brighter non-HDR screen is always nice for sunlight usage, total waterproofing somehow, nano-glass.

What I want most is an iPhone Pro mini, but they’ll never do that, so now the rumored iPhone 17 Pro Slim is all I care about.

iPhone X/XS dimensions were perfect and then they ruined it.

I’m still waiting for that or the return of the mini (I’d pay a premium for some brand new battery tech in it, or make it thicker if needed (but use the most expensive and lightest components)).

The number one thing, above ALL else, is weight reduction. I want it to just continue to get lighter and lighter, without losing durability.

I’m sure I’ve forgotten some of my pet picks, but this is some of what came to mind immediately.

Well, thank you for asking!

- First get rid of that &%*$ Dynamic Island, the Notch, or any other distraction from the display. I cannot believe Steve would *ever* have allowed that design kluge. If I wanted an island I'd book a 2-hour tour. A 2-hour tour.

- Pass the POCKET TEST. You want something bigger? You have iPad.

Best as always,
Loren

It's the trade off for having an edge to edge display (plus makes Apple devices stand out, which I expect they like for marketing reasons).

Would you prefer TouchID, mounted under the screen / in the power button / on the rear? Genuine question. Personally, I quite like FaceID on the iPhone, though would prefer it to be on the longer edge on the iPad (as they've now moved to).
