I ordered a Playproof case from the States and liked it, apart from the fact that it picked up fingerprints very quickly and the area below the Home Button was floppy/saggy/flimsy and moved every time I touched it, which I hate.

Otherwise, I'd've said that this is a pretty good case.

They are due to release something called the "Solidsuit," case fairly soon, according to their Website.
These seem to be made of Leather and a couple of other materials, like one with a carbon fibre finish.
That would seem to deal with the above issues, so I'm very tempted to try again..

Just to be clear, the fingerprints, etc. are all issues NOT with the case, but rather with the screen protector that one can apply alongside the case.

I had my issues with the case itself, i.e. on the back of the case, nothing to do with the Screen Protector and the same goes for the issues around the Home Button.

My Screen Protector isn't one from the same company, I avoided that option, largely due to being incapable of fitting Screen Protectors correctly, without bubbles/dust! :O)

I get Apple to fit mine now, with their amazing in-store gizmo/gadget..stress relief, or what? ;)

the solid suit is officially funded as of today. I supported it on kick starter and am expecting the follow up survey next week. Going to get the black leather. It should eliminate my one complaint about the play proof...the grip

Ta for the info regarding that.

I was very pleased with the Playproof otherwise and the company were really helpful with returns etc.
It was an "expensive," case, by some standards, but I don't mind that..

I'm not totally sure how the "kickstarter," thing works.
Do you have any idea when it'll go on general sale?

Cheers.

Is there anything that gives you the impression that the SolidSuit won't be the same in this regard? (I don't own a PlayProof case.)

Yep, the pics you've supplied, for starters and others I've seen! :)

Other than that, the fact that it's leather, as opposed to the materials they used on the Playproof.
That looks pretty fingerprint resistant and other leather cases I've tried have been similarly resistant.

And, looking at that Lip below the Home Button..I'd say it looks very sturdy and not unlike the Snugg Ultra Thin leather case I used to use by default, until they changed the design making it impossible to insert any lightning cable, including the Apple type, into the charging port..
I'd still be using that case (see below) were it not for that and the fact that it suffers quite easily from bumps and knocks spoiling the appearance, meaning I ordered a new one every few months! :)

To me, your pic of the Solidsuit looks even more robust below the Home Button..

First off, they're not using real leather since they wanted their case to be as environmentally friendly as possible.

Although the finish on the back is this synthetic leather, I believe the materials on the front of the SolidSuit are probably similar if not the same as the PlayProof.

If you look at this picture of the blue case, you can see the difference in the finish between the front and back, which I believe is similar to how the PlayProof is designed as well.

I just wanted to check if there was any other indication that they solidified that area or not. I think it would bug me as well if the area below the Home button was flimsy as you call it (I currently use a Magpul Bump case which seems quite solid in this area).

Cheers Peter, I know what you mean.
And, ta for the point of info, regarding the leather/faux leather etc.
You're quite right there, although it does seem to be more solid/sturdy, looking at the pic than the Playproof.

They did express surprise when I sent the product back for return..and gave that as one of 2 reasons.

I want the area below the Home Button to be as firm as possible.
I also have the Magpul Bump case and love it for that reason, in spite of it being much more bulky.

Recently, I've bought the Caudabe Sheath, which, weirdly, does "pull away," from the phone if you pull on it, but due to some sort of reinforcement, when you press on the lip, it doesn't give..very clever piece of design.

I'd go back to the Magpul, were it not for the fact that it's pretty bulky.

I got my playproof city sidewalk case. Looks awesome. It's nice and tight. But what I am not liking is that it is super slippery which everybody has said. And dust gets under the lip all over the case. Even though it is a tight fit, lint gets under and is a pain. I would assume that if you didn't clean it out it would begin to scratch the screen.

If it was a store I would return but will just keep since it would be a pain to deal with returning

Which cases do you own that avoid the dust issue? I'm wondering if it's a problem with the shape, the materials, or something else.

I have never had lint get under the lip before. I have had zoogue. Belkin candy sheer, luvvitt. None of them fight as snug as playproof but they didn't allow dust and lint under the lip. But this case somehow allows tons of it inside.

I am new on this forum, so hello guys :)

From my phone case engineering perspective, I can tell you some reasons why and how dust comes under the case:

As you are assuming correctly, there are two main factors: design and materials.

The cases which will block most of the dust are the life proof rubber ones, because they cover lot of phone surface and have sticky fit like no other harder material can ensure.

Cases made by harder materials: aluminum, wood, plastic, etc must have higher precision to fit well (without wobbling) in case to block dust very well.
Also if the case does not wobble on your phone you can be sure that case will not wear out the surface of the phone even if some minor dust comes into the case :)

Lots of dust also comes into case through port and button holes. Especially if the case doesn't fit well and have space between phone and case itself invisible on the outside, it is no matter which material is in use.

I hope guys this will help you with making decisions when considering to purchase a new case.

If you would like any more informations you can let me know and I will be happy to advise on that.

(English is not my born language and I apologize for any typos I have possible made. I will be also happy with any advice on that)

Best regard Denis Vesel

I must have gotten a defective unit. The power button is very hard to press. Especially compared to a spigen or Thule X4 or tech 21 evo elite or candy shell. This, combined with the slipperiness is forcing me to return it. It's a shame too because the case is so nice and form fitting has the best drop protection I've heard of.

I purchased the Rhino Shield PlayProof during their Black Friday sale. The case cost me $24.99 shipped, which I believe is a great value for this case. I'm going to review it and give you my opinion of this case.

Firstly, the packaging of the case is excellent. The color of my case Dark Blue.

The case feels very well made and it appears the materials used are high quality.

There's a honeycomb type pattern inside the case, which Evolutive calls eggdrop technology. The case is a hybrid design of two materials. You can clearly see this in the pictures. Evolutive claims the combination of their eggdrop design and their special polymer gives this case an incredible 11.5 feet of drop protection.

I watched Aaron's video review, at Mobile Reviews and he tossed this case around extensively. He also dropped it from about 10 feet and there was no damage to his iPhone. It was an impressive display of PlayProof's drop protection capabilities.

@kgenova (Kristin) also did a great YouTube review of this case, going over its features and showing close up shots of the case. Check it out!

What's truly amazing about this case, it's super thin for such a highly rated drop protective case. Plus, it's very light. 26g for iPhone 6 and 33g for iPhone 6 Plus.

The picture below compares thickness versus a variety of iPhone cases and the PlayProof. As you can see, the difference is quite measurable. This case barely adds bulk and length to the iPhone. When compared to the PlayProof, all these other cases felt huge on my iPhone.

The case fits like a glove and it installs fairly easy. There's no play around the perimeter of the case. It has a nice snug fit.

The camera cutout is well done and the case has a nice protective lip, which allows you to safely lay your iPhone bottom or face down on a flat surface. The buttons are super responsive and very clicky. I can easily say the responsiveness of the buttons are some of the best around, if not the best in my opinion.

In regards to grip, I wouldn't categorize this as a grippy case. It's slippery on the back. The sides do have more grip. I personally would have liked more grip. If grip is high on your list of musts in a case, you may want to look elsewhere.

Having said that, there are trade offs between cases. I like that this case is really thin, when compared to others in its class. I like the amazing drop protection and super responsive buttons, so for me these things override its lack of grip.

I believe as the case wears in, they'll be a little more grip. After using the phone today, I'm already noticing the case feels more comfortable in my hands, but this could be me getting use to the case.

How Evolutive Labs was able to create an 11.5 foot drop protective case that is so thin and light is truly amazing. Minus its lack of grip, this case offers everything you would want in a drop protective case.

If protecting your phone is your number one concern, you really can't go wrong with the PlayProof.

Overall I'm super pleased with PlayProof's thin form factor, the fit and finish is excellent and the buttons are just perfect. I can honestly say this is a super case. I can highly recommend it.

How did that work out? Still using this combo? I now have a PlayProof and I'm really hoping it plays nice with my remaining Ice Max 3D.

I was contemplating of getting the ice max 3d to go along with my rhinoshield crashguard bumper but I'm afraid of the lip of the bumper lifting along the sides of the ice max since there's no adhesive along the side.

That's what happened to the iMOS I had when I tried putting the bumper on yesterday. It started lifting the top right corner of the screen, and wouldnt stick anymore so I ended up scraping the iMOS.

Probably one of the best case and screen protector combinations. You have to align the Ice Max 3D perfectly to prevent the corners from lifting. My first installation attempt wasn't perfect so it started lifting as soon as I put the PlayProof on. It was perfect after adjusting the Ice Max 3D and applying some pressure on all of the corners.

you think the Ice Max would be work with the CrashGuard Bumper?

Yes. It's got a bit more give than the PlayProof and I've read several reviews saying that it does.

What do you mean by more give?

I dont have the PlayProof, but from multiple youtube videos, it "looks" as though the PlayProof doesn't have an as aggressive lip as the CrashGuard, i.e. it doesn't go over much of the curved glass. I may be wrong?
