Laptop replacement means it can replace it. But I would say if you can use an iPad and do not need a laptop, it means you do not need a laptop. You do not need a full blown OS, no local storage and no connectivity. The iPad cannot do these things but if you do not need it is perfectly OK. Apple is doing very well so a reason must be :)

iPad Pro - best selling $800+ tablet in the world

Apple Pencil - praised by graphic artist like Disney/Pixar as the best drawing tool EVER. Beating out stand alone drawing tablets/pencils that cost thousands of dollars

Apple Watch - fastest selling new Apple product EVER. Best selling smartwatch on the Planet that will reach 15 million units in its first year

Apple Music - became the #2 music streaming service in less than 6 months. It reached 10 million paid subscribers in 6 months. Pandora/Spotify took more than FIVE YEARS to reach 10 million paid subs.

Keep being an Apple hater. Its bad for your health. Cause Apple will keep winning and you won't, LOL.
I didn't even take the time to respond to that ridiculous list of excellent products... (Except Apple Music, I don't like it very much)

The problem isn't the hardware, it's the OS. iOS is not a substitute for OSX (or windows). Microsoft got that with the surface. I'm watching a number of my mac-using friends switch to surface/windows 10 because of the hybrid data entry - and it's still a real OS, not a toy.

Apple needs to have a non iOS answer for the surface - it's too locked down and limited to ever replace a full computing OS for most users (they could start by adding true, non-cloud, local storage and a USB 3 connector).

Apples answer to the Surface is the Macbook

Apple Pencil - Completely goes against Steve Jobs' views on styluses. also insanely overpriced and needs to be charged. Then again, Cook is doing every thing that Steve wouldn't do because he can.

Apple Watch - A glorified and overpriced iPhone accessory, doesn't deserve its own class of product when it's completely dependent on the iPhone to even function. How do we know it's the fastest selling new Apple product ever when they refuse to release sales figures? Apple, of all companies would never shy away from bragging about sales figures unless they had something to hide.

iPad Pro - Oversized (and overpriced) iPad running an iPhone interface. Not really a pro device. The Surface is a much more sophisticated and superior alternative.

Apple Music - Worst designed music app on iOS (iTunes is also a bloated mess), completely sidelines and undervalues the original tentpole feature of using your iPhone/iPad as an iPod.

Funny how you didn't mention the 12" Retina MacBook with almost no ports, no HD FaceTime camera, no glowing Apple logo on the back and weak internals.

Quit being such a deluded fanboy and accept the fact that Apple has lost its edge and focus.

FYI: I'm an Apple fan, I'm just willing to criticize them where they need to be and not blindly defend and praise them at every turn.

Just about everything you said here boils down to personal opinion but you try and act as if it is fact. Stop doing this, it is irritating and makes you look like a fool.

Doesn't change my opinion, I still think apple products are great, top notch, whatever. It still stands that apple has yet to have a product like the surface. Apple could probably do it better, but it hasn't happened yet.
Fortunately Apple won't make such a product like the surface. Leave those half baked solutions to Microsoft...

Sure you have been here for a decade. LOL. So desperate to pump up the pathetic sales of Surface? Hope they are paying you good money to pump it up.

You don't see me or other Apple fans go to Microsoft forums to bash on Surface. Why? Because we have lives. We are happy with our devices and don't see the need to go on to other non-Apple forums to bash their product.

I enjoy Apple products and talk about it. Nothing pathetic about having 700 posts here.

What is pathetic is someone setting up an account only to bash a product. Really sad.

Well at least Microsoft has the foul mouthed young girl AI market cornered.

Whatever dude. I don't care if the surface sells or not, all I said was that apple does not have anything similar yet, and that the surface is a good product. It seems you are quite the Zealot around this forum, Enjoy.

Thing is, the needs of consumers has shifted significantly. When I was working for Best Buy 3 years ago almost every interaction with a buyer was the same thing, "I need to do email, internet, and word". iPads easily fit the bill for those kinds of users whom are rapidly becoming a bigger slice of the consumer market.

The Macbook is just as light and portable as the Surface. That's the competing product.

The Surface is a laptop trying to pull off being a tablet. It might work for some people. But most people either want a full on tablet or a full on laptop. But of course there are people like you who like the Surface. But sales numbers prove there are very few people like you and the Surface is a niche product compared to laptops and iPads.

I'm sorry that I'm an Apple fan who dares to criticize Apple especially since it's becoming quite apparent that their profits-first mentality under Cook will ultimately drive the company back to the 90s in terms of quality product output (or lack thereof). While they may have the massive piles of money and the reputation both created by Steve Jobs, he's sadly not able to return this time and fix this increasingly convoluted trainwreck wrought by his successor that he foolishly appointed.

Half-baked? Running a smartphone interface on a 'pro' tablet sounds more half-baked to me. At least Microsoft knows how to design software, can't say the same about "design god" Jony Ive.

BillyMatt87, meet Windows8 (and 8.1). They would like to argue with you about "design" choices.

I laugh at people who only fantasize about the past.....so quaint.

Aesthetics aside, again going back to my retail experience, NO ONE I showed Windows 8 to bought willingly. In fact I think the dramatic (and rather convoluted) Tile interface was exactly the reason why there are so many 5+ year old Windows laptops in use today. People really don't want to move to the new interface.

Personally I don't think it's terrible, but the live tiles are a case study in information overload.

You have a very good point. I won't disagree. All I'm saying is, too bad there isn't a MacBook with an apple pencil or something where you can draw on the screen, its invaluable to those doing math, calculations, or diagrams, in a student or professional environment that need desktop class software.

Not to mention how bloated the iPad lineup has become in general. It needs to be severely streamlined!

2 iPad Mini's
1 iPad Air
2 iPad Pro

5 models for a line that sells 50,000,000-70,000,000 units a year? That's not bloated at all.

And since when was giving customers more choices (within reason) a bad thing?

Very credible your signature saying that....
You practically said Apple customers are a bunch of idiots and you claim to have bought several thousands $ of Apple products

Lol what does me having Apple products has anything to do with what I say? Yeah, I do like their products. What I was saying was that certain reviewers will go above and beyond to state the pros about the product, but never mention anything about the cons, which apple products have plenty. That's all.
[doublepost=1459192711][/doublepost]
name me the last turd Apple released?

Apple has earned its reputation of producing quality products.

iPad 3. And to clarify, I never said Apple releases 'turds', all I was saying was that they could release a pile of sh1it and fanboys will eat it up. Some of you guys get way too defensive over a company that don't give two ****s about you, just your wallet. Take a chill pill and put down the kook aid.

iPad 3

You can find Cons about ANY product.

What exactly were the Cons you were hoping they would bring up?

That would make sense if Apple did a removable screen (which I haven't seen one good design yet from an engineering standpoint). While set up like a laptop however, you're asking for almost instant carpal tunnel if you're writing on a vertical surface (or even somewhat slanted) while the machine is at desk level.
