Shadow of a Tomb Raider...any word yet? LOL.
Playing that in Windows. IMO, SoTR is the best TR games in the series.
I personally like the 2013 story more than RoTR. But system wise, of course RoTR is more mature (e.g. Lara can "run").
And my feeling of SoTR so far (about 40% finished), the story is more like the 2013 style, more enjoyable. But the system like RoTR more. So the combination of the two, perfect.
Of course, the graphic is stunning as well.
Since I already built a 8700k 1080Ti Hackintosh. So, even my Mac Pro 5,1 can easily run this game in Windows, it's still easier for me to play it via streaming (if I really want to play it on my Mac).
What surprised me is that this game is super CPU demanding in DX11 mode.
In DX11 mode, 1080P max setting (expect only using TAA), the benchmarks clear shows the game is CPU limiting in quite a few scenes. And the FPS can drop below 50 even with the CPU running at 5GHz. Of course, as expected, it's CPU single thread performance limiting, most likely due to driver efficiency. The game can only use ~50% CPU at most (multi thread).
But in DX12 mode, the driver efficiency bottleneck is removed. And the game can easily run at 60FPS (again, max setting expect only use TAA) with just about 50% usage of both CPU and GPU.
Since I play it about 15' away from my 84" 4K TV, 4K or 1080P can't make any noticeable difference most of the time (especially all my gaming PC, PS4 Pro, XB1, Switch, etc are all connected via the Marseille mCable Gaming Editing, which provide hardware AA anyway). Therefore, I am happy to leave the game running at 1080P which allow the CPU and GPU stay cool (and less fan noise).
However, there is clearly a bug in DX12. The smoke and water fall etc may shows flickering (with latest driver on a 1080Ti). But I found the solution already. Start the game in DX12 mode, go to option, switch OFF DX12 WITHOUT restart the game. So that the game will still running at DX12, but no more flickering, really strange (but easy to "fix") bug.
Anyway, good game, I bought it when 33% off on Steam. Definitely worth.
