Mine suffered with the diagnostic bug when trying to set up AppleCare+ when the rMini arrived on Wednesday. Apple customer support were adamant that there was an issue with the iPad, said the only option was to replace. The 'suspect' one is being picked on Monday and the new one (out of china, in transit at the moment) is scheduled for delivery on Monday with AppleCare+ provided by Apple included.

Rather than working on the bug itself, they replace units and include AppleCare+ with it? What a strange policy!

rMini Image Retention Problem-Tested

Picture or didn't happen :D I'm curious if you could post a pic in a dark room and a black background with full brightness. I thought there is no rMini without light leak!

Mine also doesn't have light leak. Also 32gb. Wifi though Space Grey.

Well, can you take a pic of it? Or anyone else? Who doesn't have that? It's not that im not believing in you, it's just like.. I need to see that with my own eyes so i can keep exchanging my rMini..

Actually, after testing it at full brightness with a solid black picture, I can see the smallest glimpse of light leak in the lower right corner. I can't provide a pic as I don't have access to my mac right now. In my opinion it's really a non-issue, you can see it only if you're looking for it.

Edit: I've just seen the pic you posted in the other thread and the light leak in mine is definitely nothing compared to that pic. If I were you I would go ahead and exchange it (if you haven't already).

Ok, good to know! I've already exchanged mine, but the second one was even WORSE.. 3rd exchange is coming tomorrow! Fingers crossed!

Has anyone swapped over their mini and got one that doesn't have IR yet?

I have a genius bar appointment on thursday to try get applecare with this diagnostics bug, but not sure if I should exchange or not if I'm given the option...

I got a retina mini with the retention issue and even after exchanging twice could not get one without the retention issue. On my third exchange, they ran out of stock so I returned it. Ordered a new one after I left the Apple store and now am waiting for the new shipment, hopefully this one will be good.

Blooming heck, this is poor and Apple's part. Perhaps I should wait on my exchange until next spring/summer..

I've ran the Marco IR test on all of the LCD screens I could find in the house and they all seem to show some IR. My iPad 2 has the worst the IR (funny I never noticed it in over two years of use). My rMini is better than my iPad 2 but it shows some IR as well after 5 minutes. My Dell Ultra sharp monitor shows some IR as well however it's pretty faint. Has anyone else played around with the test on other devices?

http://www.marco.org/rmbp-irtest.html,

I've tested my Macbook Air, my Father's MacBook Pro, my Mother's iPad Mini, my iPhone 5 and my iPad rMini.

Only the rMini showed image retention. It only takes 30s and it now shows a faint image retention. Anything longer and it sticks for a while.

Here's a comparison shot of my rMini and my iPad 2 after running the IR test for 5 minutes. It's a late model iPad 2 with the 32nm processor so it's not a launch issue. As you can see the IR on the rMini is more uniform and the iPad 2 it's much more distinct on the edges. The rMini clears up after about 20 seconds and on the iPad 2 it sticks around for several minutes. As a mentioned before I've never noticed IR during real world use on either unit.

Hmmm. IR on my rMini is much worse. After 30s, mine looks worse than your photo. After 5mins the image doesn't disappear for at least another 5mins.

If it helps my brightness isn't cranked up. It set to auto brightness and is currently at ~40%. I'm sure the IR would be more apparent at 100%.

i have two rmini with image retention problem and i am returning both. i am planning to order a new one untill I get the one without this issue. Both of them had DLXLQ serial and was made on week 47.

Is that in normal day-to-day use or just doing the marco test? Did you try doing the other test from another link that I posted? I bet if you did the other test you will not get any IR.

Bought 2 128GB/LTE/White, both with the retention issue and a yellow tint at the bottom. Both DLXLQ.
I think I will wait a couple af weeks before trying another buy. Like a lotterie.
Not funny.
Does anybody have a 128GB/LTE/White with no retention ?

How do you know the week they were made ?
I returned 2 rMini too, both of them DLXQLX.
But I think I gonna wait a couple of week before trying to order another one...

I notice several people mentioning an Apple diagnostic test above, but having run through the entire thread I don't see any link. Can someone post the link where this can be accessed please?

Thanks!

So I bought a rMini, it did not fail that test but it kept crashing constantly and there was some weird gray bar that would appear every time I zoomed into a webpage.

Got that one replaced, and now my replacement failed the image retention, pretty badly too. Now what? Do I go into the Apple Store and tell them I've been having image problems? What best practices do you guys recommend? The replacement is only 3 days old.

Don't hesitate. Go for a remplacement until you get a perfet screen. The retention issue is getting worst over time. I recommand you a refund in order to wait a couple of week before getting a new one, in order to pick your ipad in another stock shipping... That's what I've done after 2 defective screen (image retention) on the 128G/LTE/White model. I returned them both yesterday and now I'm waiting until the end of the month...

Are you talking about the Marco Arment test (which is not an Apple test) ?
If it's the case, the link is here :
