Source? Haven't seen indications of any such thing.
Because I had a bad experience with a macbook pro retina affected by image retention 2 years ago.

Here's the extrait of an article in a french website
Il est bien trop tôt pour savoir si le cas est isolé ou pas, mais notre expérience des dalles LG des premiers MacBook Pro Retina nous fait craindre le pire, la rémanence devenant de plus en plus importante au fur et à mesure que le temps passe.

Ok, good to know! I've already exchanged mine, but the second one was even WORSE.. 3rd exchange is coming tomorrow! Fingers crossed!

So ?

I received my second Retina Mini today. This new one has no IR at all. It's a 16GB LTE DLXLQ made in week 47.

That's nice and all. But as always, nothing's perfect. It has noticable backlight bleed in lower left corner :p

32GB DLXL retina mini - IR after about 30 seconds

What do you intend to do ? Keep it like that or go for an exchange ?

How do you know the week it has been made ?

Thanks...
Both of my ipad mini retina (128/LTE/Wht) with retention issue was made in week 47 too...
Don't know if I try another one now or if it's better waiting...

----------

i have two rmini with image retention problem and i am returning both. i am planning to order a new one untill I get the one without this issue. Both of them had DLXLQ serial and was made on week 47.
Week 47 seems to be a bad week. Both of the ipad mini I bought were made this week and were strongly affected by retention... Did you exchange yours ?

That one was through the Apple store however I also ordered an iPad through that Millenicom deal so I was going to return this one regardless

Let's see how this new one goes and depending on how bad it is I might exchange it for a new one. If IR occurs after 4-5 minutes then I don't mind but 30 seconds is a little on the quick end.

Did you ever consider that it was the test that is causing the problem. Try this Apple sanctioned test.

Select the Apple section from the drop box. Tell us what you find.

Relief

After reading about all of these QC issues, I was sure my rMini was going to have something wrong with it. I got it today, DLXL, and happy to report that I think its perfect. Nice cool blue screen with no hint of yellow anywhere. I even ran that IR test for 5 minutes and could not see any indication of checkers on the gray screen. I don't mind whatever the color issue supposedly is with a reduced "gamut". Maybe I'm just getting too old and my gadget OCD is being tamed.

Which version did you buy ?

Did somebody get a rMini 128GB/LTE/White with no retention ?

Ok, I finally gave in, and tested my rMini for Image Retention.
And I regret I did because I absolutely love my rMini, but the test turned out negative.
I'm trying to be sensible about it, and just keep enjoying my rMini.
So my only question is: can IR be permanent? Or will it always go back to normal after some time?

The retention issue is getting worse over time. Don't keep it if the test turned out negative. Go for an exchange until you get a perfect one. At this price, this issue is unacceptable from Apple.

Again, where are all these reports of rMini iPads with worsening image retention?

Oh, nevermind. There are none. Proceed with your baseless scaremongering.

This is kinda what I wanted to hear.
So, the screen will always go back to normal if I happen to use it that some IR does show (which hadn't happened before I did the test)?

This is just ******** scaremongering. Here is what Apple had to say about it:

"On an IPS display, when an image such as a login window is left on screen for a long period of time, you may temporarily see a faint remnant of the image even after a new image replaces it. This is referred to as "persistence," "image retention," or "ghosting." This is normal behavior for an IPS display, and the faint image will disappear over time."

Here is the link.

Please enough with this insanity. Take your OCD somewhere else, preferably to a psychiatrist.

This is ridiculous. The only valid test is normal usage. Do what you normally do on your iPad and if image retention does not get in your way, why do some stupid artificial tests?

If you do get your mind get into this endless OCD loop, why just do a 10-minute retention test? Leave your iPad on for a year, it might retain the image after the year and that's unacceptable! :D

Remanence is a real issue. Only 40% of irMini are affected (See vote here http://www.imore.com/do-you-see-ima...ni-poll?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter). The 60% others are perfect. No one ipad Air is affected. Is it normal for you ?

I had a Macbook Pro Retina with the problem of persistence. After seeing a movie in letterbox, black bars remained on the screen, after having played a game, scoring and logos remained on the screen, etc... This is normal use. The retention test is just a quick way to determine if your screen will show ghosting in normal use. Nothing else. And only 1 or 2 minutes of this test may be enough to see the problem (this can't be considered as "a long time period" like say Apple). It's just my report. Now if you want to pay 800$ and go with a defected rMini instead of a perfect one (again 60% are unaffected and no one ipad Air has this kind of issue), you can say "it's ridiculous, stupid, artficial" and do what you want.

I've already watched plenty of TV shows, and movies with letterbox, and hadn't noticed any IR afterwards. I simply do not experience IR with normal use. Which is why I'm just going to ignore that silly IR test result.

Once the demand is fulfilled they will not use anymore of the screens with image retentions.

That's the same conclusion I've come to. I can see myself spending a lot of petrol getting to and from the apple store in the next few weeks/months exchanging iPads.

Same conclusion for me. Let´s wait until the begining of next year...

I went through 3 64GB LTE all suffering from severe ir :(. My latest is a DLXLQ (week 47). Has anyone had any experience with any rMini that have been post LQ's?

Little background on how I became aware of this issue. I noticed the photo icon ghosting on one of my app start up screens which is dark blue. I didn't run the test until I noticed this.

Both of mine were LQ. I don't know if we can find post week 47 for the moment... That's why I'm waiting until january.
Did you keep it or returned it ?

Good call to wait till 2014. The 64 and 128 versions are probably last to get new shipments as most want 16 and 32.
