Hi yoshimeow,
Eventually, did you ran the IR test ?
Just curious to know the outcome... But I certainly understand you prefer to avoid searching about imaginary problems... ;-)

@pixelements
Ok... I perfectly understand you :)

Just ran the IR test only because people keep asking about it here. Left it on for 7 mins and yup my screen has a bit of IR but it diss appeared completely after 10 seconds.

Doesn't bother me one bit :)

i did run the IR test.. and yes there is slight IR for about 10 seconds .. completely a non issue in real world use.. I'm still happy as can be about my even display :)

On Wednesday at the apple store buy online my seventh mini ipad retina, arrived today and the screen is the worst I've seen all :-(
I've processed the return and stuck the label on the package for my money back.
Now if you really even'll wait to February to March to arrive retina ipad mini made in 2014, because it seems to have a very large stock of manufactured in December.
It is the first Apple product instead of enjoying what I am suffering.

Thank you for the info. :)

Objectively, My IR last a little longer (inspecting carefully the grey background ;-), but is really hard to notice in my real life use.
It seems to happen only under specific conditions: I've let the same page in iBook displayed 10 minutes or so, and when I turned it, there was no sign of retention of the text from the previous page.

My screen is otherwise as perfect as I can dream: no yellowing, uniform colors, even, bright, vivid colors (don't understand the fuzz about the colour gamut: the colors of my rMini are close to the ones of my iPad 3), no dead pixels, no dust, etc...

I was debating to exchange or not, but from what I read on this thread and others there is currently 99% chance that I get a similar or worst one...

So I guess my best bet is to forget about this IR thing...

If you had to look for it then it isn't an issue! ;)
I have never seen any trace of IR on my mini. It may exist but without some test specifically designed to illustrate it, I'll never know. Why let a non issue affect what is an otherwise perfect screen?

Woohoo! Got my mini last week and it had the yellow screen. Exchanged today at New Orleans Apple store and I think this one is great. I can't really detect the yellowing. Haven't loaded that test screen yet but so far so good. This one has the same first four numbers (DLXL) but I think my original was W and this one is V

Production week: 50 (December)
Model introduced: 2013
Capacity: 128GB
Memory - flavour: xx
Factory: DL (China - Foxconn)

Here are the results--

My original one with the nasty yellow was week 52, this one is earlier, week 50. Supports the "luck of the draw" theory.

OK this is something I've noticed on both the old and this screen --- when I am browsing in Safari and scroll up and a dark part of the screen goes "under" the address bar at the top of the screen, I can kind of see the color coming through the address bar. Is this the way it is supposed to be? The effect almost reminds me of looking at something through frosted glass. Is it like the address bar is sort of transparent. Is it supposed to be that way? Or is this another defect lol?

This is software, the transparent frostiness.

just wondering... y don't iPhones have this problem and just ipads-they both have a retina screen? Do they use a different type of screen?

My iPhone 5S definitely has the problem. The screen is mostly white, but there's an ugly yellow area radiating out below the earpiece/camera. Looks awful with keyboard in portrait. Just dealt with it on that since I don't do much reading on it or anything. :\

Words of wisdom ;-)

that's interesting because ive never had that problem on my iphones and it doesnt seem like anyones complaining about it in the iphone forum. Are you going to return it for another?

I may just be hypersensitive to it or something. I'll see if I can post a photo.

Wasn't planning to return it since I don't really do much on my phone that involves a white background.

Here's a photo of my 5S screen. Insets show side-by-side comparison of comparable portions from opposite ends of the screen. Think it's probably just as bad as the Airs and rMinis I tried, but don't notice it as much because of a) the size of the screen and b) less apps/content with solid white backgrounds.
