Wow!

Holy S**T! I never realized how badly canadians are ripped off. Those plans are just...crazy. Next time I complain about how bad my plan is ill remember this. In comparison we here in the US have it made.
I mean, $60 for 150 minutes and 40MB of data??? That is insane!

I feel sorry for you poor canadians. You guys need more competition up there to drive those prices down and make those plans a little more fair for the consumer.

I don't believe I have call display plan for my phone (1st gen iPhone on Rogers), but if someone calls who is in my address book, it shows their name (and pic if you have it)

Here is Rogers' definitions of Call Display and Name Display (from their FAQ):
"On wireless phones, Call Display shows the number of the person calling you. Name Display shows the name and number of the person calling you."

Well, I am sure I don't have name display. I have tried to check out what I have through Roger's site, but (as usual) cannot seem to get anywhere (I know their site is likely getting pounded, but it is alway terrible).

I'm sorry I think that is hillarious!! :p:p:p

The Tally as of 5:10!

Rating: 35 Positives (Rogers' Reps); 839 Negatives (Civilized Society) :D

Question not answered - so I'll ask again - is there a way to check how much "data" I've used on my iMac?

I say us Canadians make a stand by not buying the iPhone PERIOD. No way will I pay that much for the iPhone. Nor should anyone.

Difference being:

Rogers starts at 9 for Weeknight regular.
Fido starts at 7 for Weeknight regular.

Rogers starts at 6 for Early.
Fido starts at 5 for Early.

Fido bills per second.
Rogers per minute.

So those are the basic differences, so Fido really has the best plan if only by a little bit. But I'm goin Fido for sure.

$75 is about 25-30 more expensive than I currently play. I'm fine with that. Sure its a little bit of a premium in terms of paying more relative for getting iPhone over regular phone than in the USA, but what do you expect its Rogers. The $75 plan is still pretty good for most and $100 should be more than enough. So, yeah... I don't think its that bad. I'm buying for sure.

Those plans are god awful. I was going to get the iPhone, but with those plans. Hell no.

Anyone in the UK willing to make a quick buck buying PAYG iPhones and shipping them to Canada? I think quite a few (especially if these plans don't change) would be willing to purchase some and unlock them ;)

I knew the 30 dollars for unlimited wouldn't come true. I was actually considering switching to Rogers but now there is no way. Where I am they have far worse service in the first place. It's too bad we're all utterly powerless.

You guys should because those prices are pure CRIMINAL! The government of Canada should step in and do something about their citizens being robbed.

From the Toronto Star:

http://www.thestar.com/Business/article/450431

While a $60 per month entry-level plan promises to put an iPhone in a lot of Canadian pockets, subscribers may still suffer sticker shock when they receive their first monthly bill.

That's because many will likely opt to pay another $15 or $20 a month for an optional package that includes Caller ID, text messages and call forwarding, among other things.

That brings the cheapest iPhone to just over $90 per month once a $6.95 "system access fee" and taxes are included.

Restivo said Rogers' cheapest iPhone plan would be most suitable for a subscriber who treats mobile Web browsing as more of a novelty as opposed to a core function.

"If you're a heavy data user, you're probably going to move up to the $100-per month package."

As much as I hate that Rogers is nickle and diming us, I do understand the value of an iPhone for me as a business without a fixed office. I'm always on the go and my office can very well be a park or a Starbucks or a hotel lobby.

I already pay through the nose for my BlackBerry so I think that the $75 plan will fit my needs and keep with within the same budget.

Everybody's worried about Caller ID being part of an extended package but what they mean by that is that you'll get the name of the person calling even if they're not in your Address Book. If they are, their name will show up even if you don't have the "value plan".

I currently don't subscribe to that caller ID plan and still see the name of my contacts when they call. I just don't see unknown people's names, just a number.

EDIT: I was wrong. Caller ID in fact does mean the number. It's Name ID that I was thinking about. What a ***** robbery! The "good news" is that you can still subscribe to Caller ID for $5 per month alone.

Time to understand how business works.

Canada is larger than the US, yet, we got approx 30 million people. For a few million users (maybe less), a cell phone carrier has to build one of the world's largest network to offer the same kind of coverage and quality. Imagine the cost to revenue ratio.

75% of all Canadians live within 100 Miles of the US Border. Our population density is actually quite high when you discount areas of low or no population which have no wireless coverage at all. Let's not pretend that Rogers has built out its 3G network outside of major metro areas. It is in these areas that the 3G network exists and where the price to service the users is likely in line with the US. Charge me a little extra for data service at the cottage if necessary.

Caller ID is likely included as part of your blackberry package, however Caller ID per Rogers is just the number, Name Display, is the one you are referring to.

Essentially this means that no, Rogers will not include number display unless you buy it through one of the packages.

I've been with Fido for years, and I'm really stoked that I can stay with them for the iPhone. And no, the plans aren't great. But it's progress. What would 400mb of data cost us a year ago? Several thousand dollars a month. I'm more choked about the joke of a "value" pack than anything else.

Rogers doesn't have exclusivity with Apple, so when new entrants to the wireless market come in, iPhone rates will drop. And frankly if so many people aren't going to buy it, that just means a shorter lineup at the Fido store for me.

Thanks Rogers. I, as a Canadian citizen, was seriously thinking of an iPhone, but not anymore. Next generation iPod touch it is.
