Rogers Announces iPhone Plans in Canada

Sad... Look what I'm using:

It is not their best 'data pricing'. What they've done is stripped everything else away (voice minutes, caller id). You have to remember that at 35 cents/minute overage you'll pay an extra $70/month to have 350 daytime minutes.

Please people, the data blows, but we can't forget that they gutted the rest of the features and that will cost you WAY MORE.

Those plans really suck! I will never complain about AT&T again! Well, I just lied of course.

The data charges really are skimpy. If you're considering the cheapest option, be careful. Once you have the iPhone you will use it all the time. You'll be amazed at how incredibly useful and convenient it is to have the full internet in your pocket. I regularly use 1GB-2GB monthly. The Wi-Fi is a great feature, but for me at least, I don't seem to find myself near a free connection too often.

I don't even know where to start. It seems almost criminal... is there no competition in Canada? Can you imagine if someone tried that in the US? They'd be out of business 4 minutes after they opened their doors.

I can get unlimited data/SMS plan for $40 monthly on iPhone due profound deaf customer.

Unlike the subprime mortgage lending industry, at least Rogers is telling you what they're going to do to you before they get you to bend over.
 
I sent an email to www.macosken.com

For those of you who don't know him he does a daily Podcast about macs that rocks.

And ask Roger's what they are thinking🙂

Rogers... why? Why do you compare yourself to the other crappy carriers in other countries and say "Better than some" when you can compare yourself to some of the best and say "Better than most" and be proud of it?

Why do they charge so much. I know, because they can. But WHY? Why? They have no souls.

Earlier on in this topic I saw that the plans may not be totally finalized? Could this be true? Hopefully they lower the prices. By $20. Ha. Yeah right.

There's a 0.000001% chance that I'll consider the thought of considering the $60 plan. But... yeaaaaah.....

sorry.. the first time i have typed nything on caps... but it just reminds me of how good we have it over here in India.
I have been reading these plans like in the US and Canada, the UK & even Australia. and boy, these are messed up.
As we have :
no contracts
incoming CLIP etc all free. since years.
calling rates are extremely low.
switching cost is net to nil.
now here's the trump : unlimited data at $4 a month!!!
$4 is not a typo. no 3g though. but still, $4 and unlimited. really unlimited. u could tether etc. anything. unlimited.
and 3g's gonna be here soon.

If!!! I were to pick the 60$ plan... my monthly expenses would be:
60$*1.13(tax)+6.95(SAF)=74.75$.

Would i have to pay SAF every month??? I thought it was a one time kinda thing!!!

And yes i do realize those 74.75$ do not include Caller ID!

I WANT US PRICES!!!

Anyway... did i do the math correctly?

The SAF is monthly, and the tax also includes the SAF.

(60+6.95)*1.13 = $79.

If Rogers has to admit that they made a mistake about their price plans, the people who came up with said plans would probably be fired for making Rogers look bad. I wasn't talking about massive layoffs.

And regarding your 'oil crisis' example:
1. That's not how it works. No.
2. What a horrible anaogy.
 
Petitions, calls, etc...

Yesterday I sent an email to Rick Mercer to tell him about this.

Can't wait to see if he talks about it. If he does, perhaps the general public will also start calling and writing to Rogers to demand lower prices and/or more minutes/data.

I, for one, would rather see the same minutes and data but for half that price. Not that it really matters anyway since their awesome incredible network paid with our tax dollars doesn't even exist where I live. 🙁

Serious. I didn't dream at all last night, and I KNOW it's because of Rogers.
 
Yesterday, I didn't buy a soft-cover book because the US price marked on it was $3 less than the Canadian price. A pure gouge.

There is no way I'll buy an iPhone in Canada either given that Rogers is the only provider. One trick in the Rogers stable of ripoffs some of you have yet to discover (I have a Rogers cell phone), is that all software that would reveal the minutes you have used since your last billing cycle has been removed from the phone, and you can't view your minutes on their web site either.

At the end of the day on Thursday, bidding for AWS spectrum cracked through $3.9B and it seems to keep creeping up almost $5M per round. At the Canadian Telecom Summit on Tuesday, Ken Engelhart did some quick arithmetic to show that the amounts are in line with valuations in recent auctions in other countries - it's just that his comparables were for different frequency bands.

Still, we can be confident that the business plans still justify the levels. The question of where will all the capital come from remains. How many global players have stayed away because of foreign ownership restrictions?

While there are certainly legal constructs that can allow companies to satisfy a license review, how many companies have stayed clear of such games because they tend to believe that if they are putting up most of the bucks, they should get to control the board?

It is not Rogers to blame as it is just by-product of the system. It is the protectionist regime promoted by various Canadian governments that is promoted at the behest of such corporates such as Rogers which would just not allow competition. That is the very reason, that Canada even though is a developed nation but its p
olicies are still anarchaic in practice. Be it phone plans, internet access plans, insurance etc. when compared to any other G8 nations. Canada needs to open up and become global in true mode and allow completion which benefits its people, fosters development and its own innovations, creates its own economy force and not just benefit 100 odd individuals (owners of these corporates) in Canada. Problem is to figure out as to how to make this happen by forcing the review of strategies of the government and corporates of Canada & achieve desired objectives

When did this happen?? I was waiting to hear about that. That is very reasonable price for that. I'll check it out and thanks for the catch-up!!!
