This is interesting

The System Access Fee is charged by all wireless carriers to help cover the costs associated with the ongoing expansion and upgrading of the wireless network. The fee is not required by nor collected for the federal government or any of its agencies. It is billed in advance each month, and will appear twice on your first invoice. One is for the month in advance and the second is a prorated fee from your activation date to the end of your first bill period.

Can they just hold of on the price gouging for just 5 min sheeeesh

Telus waives theirs. As does Koodo (Telus). I think Fido and Virgin waive theirs as well.

The SAF is something wireless carriers have been getting away with since day 1. As though charging a 300% on services wasn't enough for the " ongoing expansion and upgrading of the wireless network." It's a BS charge, and it always has been. Back in the 80s or early 90s I could MAYBE see a point to it, but AFAIC, it shoudl ALWAYS have been buried in the price.

Oilchange, the company that bought RuinediPhone.com yesterday just gave the site a small facelift.

It also looks like they want to make this a campaign against all unfair rates in general in Canada. I'm all for it.

Edit: make that against all form of unfair pricing in Canada.

Call forwarding minutes?

I never heard of this before till I saw it in Rogers plans. Does this mean, that if you don't want to waste minutes on the dismal voice allotments in the Rogers plans, that you can forward your calls to another phone or landline? Are we living in the 80s? Oh, here is this great phone and plan, but if you can't afford to use it, forward your calls to another phone.

I haven't owned a landline for over 5 years!

Well if we got anything from all this, it would be that Rogers is now Under a magnifying glass with all their potential Iphone Customers, and word of mouth spreads fast.

If I dont go with the Iphone Im defiantly going to telus after all this, I can't be with a company like rogers, not after they showed their true colours.

The woman in the video pronounces it '3 gig iPhone' and in the text portion it says I-phone. They might want to correct these mistakes before submitting anything official to Rogers.

its almost as if they really don't get it, and are just assuming that the information was just not clear enough.

<scenario at rogers: dick and jane at the coffee machine>
<dick> remind me to get someone to make the info on the website more clear
<jane> why?
<dick> oh i've been getting a lot of emails complaints about how confusing it is.

i seriously believe these *******s are so out of touch that they just don't 'get it'
They get it, they're just trying to sweep it under the rug...Rogers knows very well from these complaints what they're doing...

Indeed ^_^

I caught the 3-Gig bit but missed the I-phone part.

I let them know so they can fix the site.

I wonder what's oilchange's motivation for investing into this fight. Is there advertisement on the site?

Very smart move on the part of oilchange.com. They pick up a site with a large amount of traffic for probably a song, and you can be sure that there will be some ads there soon. Which is fine, I'm all for smart capitalists and if it gives the extra benefit of making the site look more professional, all the better.

This is the sign of a true entrepreneur, someone who can see the opportunity where everyone else is wailing.

Fido charges it, so does Telus. Bell actually charges more for their SAF, and more for the 911 fee.

So long as they can spell "iPhone" correctly and pronounce "iPhone 3G" correctly. :)

i need a petition against bimbos on petition websites.. that video is just BAD

Now, now, let's not have the sexism. You can't expect actors to always know the subject they are speaking about, I would call this a directorial oversight. It should have been caught. And there's just as many dumb guys out there too. I do admit the video is quite cheesy though.

video

Man that video is ebbarrassing.

~Rogers launch of the Apple iPhone 3G on July 11 comes with unfair pricing and stems way beyond a Rogers Communications issue. All of the Canadian cell phone companies overcharge for plans.~

That's actually not true...Bell and Telus both have $10 unlimited data plans. (Telus' will be $30 for the Diamond, but still.)

Telus does?? Hurm, thought they didn't. I know Koodo doesn't.

Regardless...still a BS charge :p

I'm pretty sure Koodo is the only carrier that doesn't charge the bogus system access fee. Their whole marketing shtick is based on the fact that they don't charge the fee. Also it seems Koodo is just Telus' discount brand so they don't even bring any real competition to the market.
