im really sad! :(
ive been with rogers for almost 8 years! i got a new hardware upgrade in Nov and before that I had not gotten one in over 4 years! They say Im not eligible for a hardware upgrade at this time and i have to wait til Nov!!! :(feels like they are punishing loyal customers

Great! Thanks so much!

So being in Montreal, I don't need to worry about paying the 5$ thing, right? (assuming everyone I call is also in Montreal!).

Also, am I correct in saying that in Montreal, the Fido and Rogers networks are equal in terms of voice/3G reception? Thanks again!

You should be ok as long as your usually in Montreal. I think as long as your phone says fido at the top you should be ok.

I think that within the "home coverage" area you are using fido and rogers towers and outside of that in the "extended network" just the rogers towers. So I assume that reception and 3G should be equal to rogers.

Your lucky fido had such good coverage in Quebec, here in Ontario it looks like I'll have to go with Rogers or pay $5.

Is this still the case? My phone has not said Fido for at least a year, it always says Rogers Wireless. I don't pay the $5/month for the extended network coverage and have not seen any extra network fees on my bill.

For now, Fido say I need to wait until March to be eligible for the iPhone prices.

Rogers has a Mega Time 20 plan that costs $20 per month for 200 daytime minutes and unlimited nights and weekends.

$6.95 SAF and $0.50 (or more depending on your province) 911 fees are mandatory additional costs.

Voicemail, caller ID, outgoing texting, etc are all optional additional costs.

Wher the hell do you see that?! The Cheapest Mega Time is the Mega Time 25, $25/month (+hiddens) and that is just 100 weekday and 1000 evening weekends (9pm-7am)

Linkage to that plan would be awesome.

So for someone in my situation who is always in Montreal, which appears to be blanketed by the Fido/3G network, why would I go to Rogers?

Weird. And you're a Fido customer?

200 anytime minutes.

I don't see this plan anywhere either.... not even on the link supplied :(

That's odd. It doesn't look like it appears in the list of plans you can sign up for on a new activation (at least, not in my region).

But on my wireless account self-service page, it definitely does appear as one of the options available for an existing customer who wants to switch from one price plan to another. I think it's understandable that I'm hesitant to provide a link to a page that's part of my personal account settings.

Mission Accomplished

Folks,

I just wanted to say Thanks to all that participated and voiced their concerns over Roger's iPhone plans! I got to say I am still surprised that we all made a difference but seriously how could they not fold and give in?

I strongly believe that the media was the key to our success. So thank you mainstream media for the negative articles and giving us tech geeks a voice.

The 200 Anytime plan was offered in BC as of last night when I checked. I cannot say about today since Rogers website is down [can't imagine what would have caused that!]

Has anyone ascertained the answers to the common questions about whether the regular voice plan + 6G "bonus" offer equals full iPhone capabilities yet? I am starting to suspect it may have been a bit of smoke and mirrors to the effect that only the iPhone packages give you that, and the 6G for $30 was really intended as a supplement to those plans if you want full feature access. That would be a unfortunate...I suppose we could all assume that any voice plan plus the 6G special equals full features, get our iPhones, and if they are not fully functional, return within the 15 day return window...now wouldn't THAT ruin Rogers iPhone launch to have the supply eaten up and then returned due to a smoke and mirrors PR gamble...

So I just talked to FIDO to enquire about my voice and data iPhone options as I live in an area where I am frequently outside of my 'home' area = long distance voice charges (I CANNOT believe we do not have a National cell phone plan like in the US...arrrrg).

So, FIDO they said that data rates are .05 cents per Kilobyte when you are outside your home 'area'!!!! WHAT???? This is impossible as the data rates would be astronomical @.05/KB.

Has anyone been charged for data (on any smartphone) outside their 'home' area?

What?? This better not be true, otherwise the whole thing is useless!

Very Understandable... I wouldn't provide that link either... buy maybe a CMD+Shift+4 of just that area so I can print it and show it at the Rogers Store as this is what I want, and I know you offer it.

Can I ask what region you are in to get that plan?

I have a $25 voice plan, add in $7.00 for call display, add in 911 Service $0.50, Service Fee $6.xx, and tax = $45 a month.

Now add in your cheap $30 6GB Data plan and your paying a whopping $78.40/month. Quite a hefty price to pay to use your iPhone?

I'm still SOOO confused about what to do. I'd love some advice.

I'm a current Fido subscriber. I have $75 Fido Dollars (rewards credit) that can be applied to the purchase of a new handset (including the iPhone 3G).

I'd love to stick with Fido, as I'm a big fan of billing by the second, not by the minute. In addition, evenings start at 7PM with Fido, as opposed to 9PM with Rogers (which is ridiculous!).

My problem is this...I don't like any of Fido's voice plans. My current plan is $25 for 100 daytime and 1000 E/W minutes + unlimited incoming calls. The "in-market" $25 incoming calls plan has only 500 incoming minutes...and I use a lot more than that!

What I really want is MY5 from Fido. Unlimited call and text with 5 numbers would be great...but I still want my billing by the second and 7PM evenings! And I want my $75 handset credit!

I'm STILL not happy with the 6GB for $30 data deal, not because of the amount of data, but because rumour has it that it doesn't include visual voicemail (which becomes an $8 option...I can't believe Steve would allow this). The $30 data plan essentially costs $38...if you want a fully functional iPhone.

What I'm REALLY hoping is that they include Visual Voicemail in the "Value" packs...just like enhanced voicemail is in the value packs for Windows Mobile.

My inclination is to cave and go with Robbers, get MY5 $25 + 6GB $30 + Value Pack $15 + $6.95 + $0.50 = $77.45.

My only objection is that this plan, costing $10 more than their base iPhone plan, isn't available for the full subsidy! Instead of costing me $299 for a 16GB model, it will cost me $349.

I want to buy my iPhone, and I want the 6GB of data...it just sucks that I'm going to have to sacrifice my $75 fido dollars and get dinged $50 on the price of the phone by Rogers, even though I'm buying a MORE expensive plan.

Any words of advice?

How long have you been with Fido? Try calling their retentions dept and see if you can negotiate a better voice package.

My concern with going with the cheaper plans, is the rumor that the $30/6GB plan will only available as an add on to plans that are over $30. Also, the caveat in the press release that it is available to 'in-market' plans. No definition of in-market was given, nor if it rules out retention/EPP plans.

Which if you haven't been paying attention is the same as I would be paying without caller ID, 400MB Data and only 150 Minutes... so it is astronomically better for the price. Sure with that, we are still missing some stuff that AT&T has for the same end price after taxes... but it is a step in the right direction.

I have a question for everyone.. I am so confused..

What is the cheapest plan you can get with Rogers, with the 6GB/$30 data plan? Like with voice and the data?

Also.. what's the cheapest plan with the same stuff from Fido?

Thanks ;)

"Roaming" Data

Has anyone else confirmed what James Elwood said about data? That if you are outside your home area you get billed for data? That would definitely be a show stopper for me as I could never use it when travelling within Canada (which is the whole reason I want it!)

Fido is a subsidiary of Rogers, that's why it says Rogers for you ;)

That is what I have always assumed. However, a poster here mentioned that it will say Fido, unless I am on the Rogers 'extended' network, in which case I am in line for an additional charge. Fido does say on their site that access to the 'extended' network is $5 per month. I remember that did say this when Rogers first bought them out, but when my phone started always saying Rogers Wireless and I was not being dinged for an additional charge, I just assumed they had gotten rid of it. It appears they have not, but I am not being charged, that I can tell.

Yeah the FIDO network extends pretty far past Ile-de-Jesus, Repntigny, South Shore, and Ile-Bizard/Deux-Mongtagne, so you can practically travel to all the reaches of the bus network, including the ones other than the STM!

Unless you travel to the Laurentians or like possibly Eastern Townships, which might be including just not sure, you should be fine.

I just talked to someone at Rogers customer care and he told me that the iPhone won't be available to existing customers doing hardware upgrades until early August because of a stock shortage. This is the first I've heard of this - please tell me it's bullsh*t.
