you think thats bad......i am eligible for an upgrade but i still got to dish out $548 to own a 16GB iphone............wasnt upgrading a phone supposed to decrease the price, here its fuken increasing it
What's the breakdown on the $548?

Thats awesome! Thank you very much, I will print that out and take it with me. If a Nova Scotia'ner can have it so should an Ontarionian...

You guys have 2 911 charges though?! That is moronic...
That is awesome :D I wonder how they justify that?

Is it even 100% set in stone that you can add on the 30$/6GB to ANY voice plan if you're a new customer?

Also, will it be the $15 value pack or the $11 one that we can add?

So confusing! Common Robbers, fix this up!

I think the only thing you can be sure of is that it is not confirmed in anyway. You will get different answers from different Rogers and Fido reps.

Agreed. Knowing this company, I wouldn't even be surprised if you HAD to get the original iPhone plans they announced then you have the OPTION of adding on a $30/6GB to that! could you imagine the travesty!

Just talked to someone at Rogers. I wanted to confirm that a data plan wasn't mandatory and the lady said "It will be for the first few weeks since the phone is in such high demand".

I'm getting a data plan but my sister doesn't want/need one, talk about BS.

Lmao. This is terrible. What a mess. Literally every rep is just saying what they "think"- - nothing official from nobody.

What a lousy company. Rogers fails.

What's the breakdown on the $548?

$450 for phone + 35 activation fee + $63.05 Tax = 548.05 - 50 mail in rebate = $500

but i still will be paying 550 in store, and i have been with rogers for 2 year, then extented my contract for another 2 years without getting a phone. so basicly if you are not a old customer with rogers, you will have to pay alot of money just to get the iphone

Yeah, seriously. Their having a tough time deciding how much they can screw the customers over for while still keeping Apple happy and minimize bad PR.

hahaha, i called them 4 times, and went to a rep. all had different thigns to day, but most agreed that i didnt had to get a data plan, but they highly recommended it

So, it sounds like I will unfortunately be just as well off to eat the $200 cancellation fee to cancel my current contract and then buy an iphone as a new contract. The Fido rep said I would then be entitled to the advertised prices of $199 or $299. This would make the 16GB model $499, but I have $100 in fidodollars to apply against it, so it would be $399. (I assume the activation fee will apply across the board).

Dammit. Guess I will be waiting.

Not a CLUE

I just chatted on-line and on the phone with some Rogers reps and got 2 different stories, so needless to say it is probably safer to wait for a few weeks until someone figures out HOW MUCH they want to rip us off.

GOD I hate these guys, should have stayed in the US - at least I would have a phone, know how much it costs and avoid all this confusion.

Poor Apple, I feel bad they had to partner with Rogers.

Cheers....time for a few Keiths to clear my mind of all this.

D

Here's an interesting one. If you read the info on the iPhone rate plans, it says

ROBBERS said:
Data Usage - Your iPhone will be enabled for data usage. If you subscribe to a plan with no data included, data charges at a pay-per-use rate of 5¢/KB for data sent and/or received over the Rogers network will apply, unless you subscribe to a data plan, which we highly recommend.

So there will be no data disabled option. You can't even shut it off from your phone?

I think that is it exactly. They don't want to put anything in stone, because they want to be able to restrict the offers as much as possible, but don't want the bad PR to spoil the launch. better to let everyone think the are eligible and that the $30/6GB is available to every and all voice plans. Long lines will the be guaranteed. Media will be all over interviewing people walking out with an iPhone. You walk out empty handed, it isn't really a story.

I would suggest that anyone going in on launch day to one of the stores that has some media presence, if you walk away at all unhappy, whether it was because you were not allowed to buy, were ineligible for the 'regular' price because you are an existing customer, bought one anyway but had to pay a significant premium because you are an existing customer or any other reason, seek out the media people and let them know. Let them know what ***** Rogers caused.

ok, so what your saying is that if i get a new contract, then i will be able to get the iphone for $300...
cause my brother is about to get a phone plan and is not intereted in the iphone. so can i take his iphone and activate it in my account, or are they going to activate it only on one phone?

Going to wait a few days/weeks

According to this they really don't have much in stock:

http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/340/C15727/

Smaller stores only 5-15 phones!? And big ones only about 50? That will sell out immediately. I don't want to line up and waste my time when I find out there's none left.

I'll wait until the rush is over then pick one up, which should also give them time to sort out all the unanswered questions.

Not sure if anyone saw this:

http://www.rogers.com/web/content/wireless-products/iphone_voice_data_packages

'While the iPhone 3G Voice and Data Packages allow you to use this device to its fullest and offer savings over separate voice and data plans, they are not the only options available to you. Other pricing options are available. For example, you may choose to combine one of our new data plans ranging from $30 per month (for 300MB) to $100 per month (for 6GB) with a voice plan. Learn More. They are available by calling 1 888 ROGERS1 or by visiting your nearest Rogers retail location.'

Let's hope this is a typo.

Dude, that has been there long before the iPhone packages were announced.

Cheers,

I didn't think that they had originally offered stand alone data packages until the announcement about the 6GB/$30 plan?

What I was drawing attention to was that it says 6GB/$100 not 6GB/$30.

I doubt the 'promotional period' until Aug 31 is $70 off per month... if they hiked it to $100/mo. on Sept 1st they would really be in for some upset customers (not that they don't already have many of those).

Just called my local Rogers store. 117 iPhones for tomorrow. Weird number. Probably lying...

was probably like, 120 or something, but I'm sure 3 employees put 3 away for themselves.

do you anticipate sell-outs anywhere in Canada?

Another question: If you get a 200 minutes anytime plan, who cares if your evenings start at 7 (Fido) vs. 9 (rogers)? Am I missing something? I thought the 200 minute plans come with unlimited weekends/nights....guess I was wrong.

This Rogers pricing change is a joke. Just wait until you see the fine print, you won't be nearly as impressed. Rogers is the KING of hidden charges. If you were made to believe your bill will be $77/month, guaranteed your bill will actually be $277+/month.

What's that? You don't want to pay $277 per month for 3 years? That'll cost you $900 to cancel their scam 3-year contract.

Rogers is pathetic, and this is just another PR stunt to make Apple like them more after pissing everyone off. As usual, it's too little, too late.
