I just got off the phone with Apple... they insisted that the UPS tracking information is incorrect and that I will still receive my phone today. The guy says he shows that some people received them yesterday even though it was showing as being in China... so we will see I guess.
Well, I'm sorry, but they're wrong. I can literally look at my tracking information and track the plane as it flies across the Pacific.

So, let me get this straight:

If I see the model I am seeking at a local Apple Store, what should I do with my current order? I am going through AT&T Next, and I cannot reserve the phone through Apple's website because it says AT&T Next is not available.

Should I just reserve the phone via "Paid in Full" method, or does that make me paid in full right then and there? Or does that just reserve it and then I tell them in store that I need to cancel my original preorder for the in-store phone?

Or do I simply just cancel my preorder via Apple website, and then I can automatically reserve the new phone under Next plan?

Bump. I have this exact question, and posted it here: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-and-reserved-picked-up-in-store-how.2000501/

I want to know if anyone has reserved using the full-pay option, then switched it to another payment option in-store. I'm hesitant to cancel my pre-order without the certainty of getting the one in-store.

Recently doesn't count... what does is the weather AT THE TIME of departure (unless there was an ATC weather hold which there wasn't) and what's forecast along the route. So you're going to go with USAToday over the weather applications used by UPS and every other aviation dispatch center?

I have the qualifications to make those statements, you don't... just sayin'

What if the "Weather Delay" is a delay due to emergency reasons getting supplies in/out to help those from the disaster of a few weeks ago? The same argument could be made with Hurricane Katrina and how could a storm affect normal operations a month later.

Just sayin'

I am in a chat with UPS and she tells me the package will NOT arrive. She is blaming it on Apple saying they had "special" processing plans which is why they have been in this loop. Uh.....

Seriously, nobody wants to take credit for this mess!!!!! She tells me its Apple's fault and to call them....

I've been lurking here for a while now. I ordered a 7+ 128 GB Black and got my confirmation around 3:30 Eastern. I've been preparing for shipment for about a week. Based on what I've seen here, though, that might be better than actually having shipped.

Yup, this is a complete joke. Two multi-billion dollar conglomerates playing he said she said, leaving the peon customers dangling in the wake.

Both companies should be completely embarrassed.

Ok, why would "doing the right thing" for Apple and UPS be to complimentary upgrade all of these phones to Saturday delivery? Especially when they're already going to make or beat the original delivery window?

Typhoon in China. People have died. Planes get delayed.

But do the right thing and get me my iPhone on Saturday because I can't wait until Monday.

Well seeing as how my delivery has always been today and if it's still across the pacific then obviously that date is not going to be met. So doing the right thing....yeah it's an appropriate statement here.

That's assuming that the tracking information is correct. UPS listed them as being in Korea for two days when they weren't... The guy from Apple on the phone said that there has been a lot of tracking information saying that they were in Korea in Hong Kong and various places when they actually weren't... so they could've been in the United States yesterday for all we know... UPSs tracking is a mess right now so I'm not really confident than anything we're seeing is accurate.... that doesn't mean that what Apple is saying is accurate either we will just have to wait-and-see... but trusting any of UPSs tracking information at this point is a bit naïve.

My guess, total guess, is that you are taking the normal flight UPS99 this morning to Anchorage. The others were moved to Hong Kong because there were too many to get out in just the flights that they had going from Korea to Anchorage.
Let's hope so

Seriously, anyone is calling UPS or Apple and complaining despite the shipment currently tracking to meet or exceed the original delivery window should just have the person on the other end of the phone hang up on them.

It's like suddenly everyone apparently stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night and is now a shipping logistics expert.

Just got an update. Anyone know what flight to track?

UPS should be updating all of these packages to Saturday delivery. Talk about total failure on their part.

Trust me, I want to be wrong. But I also think that if this were the case, surely ONE of us in this group would have had our phones delivered by now. I'm just super skeptical after the last few days.

You do understand that despite an original estimate of Oct 4-10 apple shipped to most on Sep 19-20. When doing this they updated the delivery date....so, your statement is worthless.

That makes sense, but I don't get why I would have a departure scan from Korea then.

I was told by the only UPS rep (not Apple clone) that the scans for my package in Korea were part of this whole mess. He admitted that the issue was partially about the crazy volume of orders, (maybe blaming Apple a little on that) and that somehow some of our packages or containers got linked to a commercial flight erroneously and I guess the scans are of that flight that our phones were never actually on. Instead of deleting those from our tracking like it should have when they finally cleared up the issue (for most of us) they just left them in as part of the record and added in some fake weather/mechanical issues. Not UPS at its best. Worst part is they are now instructed (Assume by Apple) not to give delivery dates until the phones are stateside.

Hope Apple doesn't think I'm accepting a case I don't want as compensation. I want something that I actually want or a gift card. Hate when Apple offers you item that they want to give you. Probably costs them less than $5 for those cases.

Hopefully mine should update shortly. Our packages have usually been updating closely together.

I should also note that he put me on hold while he contacted someone else and the reassured me again that it is coming today... like I said we will see... it's hard to believe anything at this point... the stuff UPS was saying yesterday is a good indication that they don't know what the hell is going on.

I'm in the HK 7:12pm departure group, original 801 group (feels like an AA meeting). At this point I've laughed and cried this thing off. If the damn phone can just be state side for me to pickup tomorrow, I'll at least be happy with that. My local UPS CC is open saturdays 10am-1pm.

UPS99. It has to be. Your departure scan is almost an hour after mine and more closely matches the departure of that plane so we must both be on it

Just called Apple and now I'm angry. Finally got connected to some douche with the online store after 45 minutes of holding on the phone (was disconnected the first time, too) and he basically INSISTS that my phone will be here today and to wait till tomorrow to call in if it hasn't arrived today.

I told him I can see that it's in a plane right now over the Pacific Ocean and hasn't even made its way into the US yet and he wasn't having any of it. Guess he couldn't wrap his mind around people tracking the flights instead of using Apple's order status page.

Then he tells me to disregard UPS's shipping information because it's inaccurate. What the ****? Does this guy have any brain at all?

So I call my UPS customer center and spoke to someone who was actually incredibly helpful, he looked at the tracking, said it would get here Monday. He said it might even be here by tomorrow morning but I can't pick it up then because the customer center is closed.

This douche I spoke to today just gave me more ammunition for my case when I call back tomorrow. What an ass.
