I have upgraded my 3g to IOS6 ... don't laugh my 5 is on the way. Now when listening to podcast either streamed or downloaded the app closes turning off the audio when the phone locks itself. not really sure why maybe I need to change a setting somewhere? I typically plug into a stereo and listen via headphone jack now it shuts off every four minutes.

The 3G can run iOS 6?

In every other way except for Maps, the iPhone 5 is exactly what I want... if Google is smart (which I'm afraid they are), they may not release maps for iOS, and that will drive at least me to Android.

Google is smart. That's why they are going to release Maps for iOS. They want the ad revenue. They hardly make any money at all from Android directly, since they give it away. The real money is in ads. Android is a way of promoting a Google ecosystem. But iOS is, or at least was a lucrative market for Google. By putting Maps into the App Store they would get a big chunk of what they lost today back.

In the meantime, just go onto www.google.com/maps and download the web app. It should prompt you the first time through.

iTunes is taking FOREVER to sync my devices.
iTunes starts syncing music when I never selected any.
iCloud in Safari works on iPad, not in Lion.
why is Passbook not on iPad?
don't like maps, didn't like Google Maps either...I use Garmin app (looks like the Nuvi) and love it. I wish I could take the Apple maps off.

another note: iTunes Match isn't very good...it reverted old playlists and deleted new ones, THEN...they don't sync on iPad.

I like iOS 6, except for the maps. The new maps app is an abomination. I sort of wish I hadn't upgraded my iPad. At least then I would have been able to use that for finding stuff when my new iPhone arrives next week. Dang it.

Until Google releases their own true iOS map, just go to www.google.com/maps from your browser. It will prompt you to download the web app onto your home screen.

3D map of Miami Beach is strange....there are no people but you can still see their shadows.

iOS 6 Maps Fails

Dear Apple, WTF is this doing in an Apple product?

Good point. With the high quality standards Apple typically sets, it's ridiculous they would think they would think this mapping app is even halfway on par with Google.

YEP it took a hour to install but its running. I'm sure I'm missing a lot of features though.

I'm assuming you used some kind of trick to do this... So, could I put iOS 6 on my iPhone 1? :D:D:D Problem, Apple?

Better than David Copperfield. Apple Maps makes all buildings disappear and most of the useful data with it too!

Is there any way to make the download go faster lol? The progress has barely moved in more than an hour. (obv I am connected to wifi and I also have it plugged into my computer)

You starring at the screen for an hour ?? That'd make my eyes go funny:cool:

They should have partnered with Garmin. I love my Garmin app and wish (would love to) I could delete my Apple maps without jailbreaking my phone and iPad.

It isn't, but Google for years withheld turn-by-turn navigation, and Apple's relationship with Google worsened for other reasons, so they didn't have much choice. It will take a while before Maps is up to speed because there aren't very many providers of data. Apple is essentially attempting to start from scratch.

I get it, they want it like their products. Less is more approach, gimped ports, gimped specs etc... all for that high margin. Brilliant, it's so pretty. :p

I understand where they are coming from. But maybe they could have taken a few million more out of their cash hoard, hired some additional developers, paid more for a better business partner, and created a better product. Yes, I see why it had to be done. There are few data providers, true. Garmin would have been a better choice for base map data, however. Plus, when you search for places now, you get far fewer results. It really puts a dent in the image of their otherwise stellar products.

where'd everything go ?

Google Maps were always the best.... Apple's idea of doing their own Maps but seems there behind, looks like a "opps..." type moment.

We goofed.. :apple:
