I mean, there's nothing defensible about this [new App Store] layout. It's just terrible.
Opinions, opinions.

I personally like the new design. It lets you quickly access important stuff without scrolling down. That, the no password updates, and no Home screen bounce has me satisfied.

WOW!!! It took all the way until page 3 before Samsung was mentioned. That must be some kind of MacRumors record ;)

I've just updated my iPhone 4 to iOS6 and map regret has already set in. I'm only realizing now what a massive loss that the lack of walking and transit is going to be for me. I was going to buy an iPhone 5, but now I'm not as sure as I was this morning.

I'm genuinely feeling kinda crappy about "defecting" to Android, but if this feature is a big enough deal, I really should switch. The only thing is that I don't know which to pick. Samsung Galaxy S3 is the only choice that seems obvious, but they've called me, an iPhone user, an idiot so many times that I'm willing to go almost any other route. I'm fine with Google. I actually think they're a brilliant company (actually reading "In The Plex" right now...) but Samsung's copying and insults have me wanting to choose anything else. So.. if you HAD to pick an Android phone out of Motorola, LG, Meizu, Sony, or Huawei, which would you pick? I'm thinking maybe the Sony.

In every other way except for Maps, the iPhone 5 is exactly what I want... if Google is smart (which I'm afraid they are), they may not release maps for iOS, and that will drive at least me to Android.

iOS 6 is a huge disappointment because of Maps

There are many things to like about iOS 6. However Apple's new Maps app is a huge downgrade in the customer experience. The cartography on Apple's Maps App is second rate compared to Google's, and the lack of Street View is really really disappointing. Maps has been one of my most used features on the iPhone and now it's lacking features I've come to rely on.

I hope this situation is rectified soon, by Apple or Google.

A few issues. If anyone else has them, please let me know, or inform me of a way to fix them.

1. I can no longer see usage data (such as standby and run times for battery) and it is replaced with a little "--" looking character as if they cannot be displayed.

2. When connecting Facebook, I chose just to use the contacts but not the calendar (because I don't want all the birthdays showing up and cluttering every single day of my calendar). Low and behold, it syncs them to my calendar anyway. Even worse, it syncs them even when the calendar option ISN'T checked and I only have the contacts checked to sync. Because of this, I have neither checked with Facebook connected simply to post from the notification pane and such.

3. When using passbook, clicking on "App Store" brings me out of the app and into the app store, but it immediately faces me with a "Cannot connect to iTunes store" message and I can't get anything in my passbook as a result.

4. It may soon be resolved and may not be my phone, but I cannot connect to my home wifi network. When I enter the password for my network, it connects for a second and immediately jumps to one of those popup "log in" things where you'd normally put a password for a guest network or public locked network. Problem is, it just shows an Apple product page that couldn't be accessed and when you cancel out of it, it no longer connects to my wifi. Because of this, I haven't yet been able to connect to my own home wifi network though it connects fine to other networks (such as in my university's library and in class).

All in all, I'm not too happy with the update compared to how I could feel. All this and I feel like iOS 6 is destroying the battery life of my 4S compared to 5.1.1.

I agree, after trying out the maps with Hong Kong city and US city, I also feel it's quite useless. The 3D maps took a long time to load in tethering mode and seem drain quite a lot of data, users with limited data should avoid the 3D map.

I have to say I have no choice and I have to stick with my Android phone for a proper map. People buy a smartphone because of the build-in map feature, isn't it Apple?

The new maps look nice, but wow, lots of inaccuracies. Just in my immediate area, my long driveway is mislabeled as a street that's actually a block away, the city park next door is labeled as a county park, they have the wrong name for a nearby shopping center, and the map shows a hospital that closed almost five years ago.

Siri need tweaking in Canada

I asked siri for closest apple store and it gave me apple auto glass, but when I asked siri for a sleazy massage parlour close to me, it gave me 15 hits complete with customer satisfaction ratings.

- "Settings > General > About > Advertising: this is new and you can limit ad tracking by toggling the off/on button"
- "You can now set an alarm with a song and not just a tone."
- "Updating apps doesn’t require a password anymore."

These are the things I care the most about :D

YES! Reordering reminders in the reminders app!! shouldve been there from day one.

Interested to find out what Siri's "Eyes Free" feature does..

Hey, Canucks!

Have you set your Siri's English to Canadian yet? I wonder what's the difference? She has the same voice as American. Is it just the spelling?

Siri needs tweaking in general. There are some things that it should do and can't, and the voice recognition is still not good enough for it to be practical (but it's still better than the competition I've seen).

It detects Canadian pronunciation I guess. Canadian English sounds a little different, enough to make Siri not work if it was set to American English.

To get Passbook to work you have to use the Safari in iOS6 and point to passsource.com. From there you can select all the retailers that support the Passbook for iOS6.

Uh, I think you might be mistaken. This looks like a paid third party site.

This.

Do not upgrade to iOS 6 if you use Maps and don't live in a major (preferably US) city.

- No Street View
- No public transport routing (unless there's a 3rd party app for your neighbourhood)
- Poor satellite imagery.

+ Gimmicky 3D flyovers of selected cities - cool but no practical use (and when you zoom in too close it looks like a scene from Inception)
+ Turn-by-turn, which is as much use as a chocolate teapot if (a) you don't have GPS (b) you don't have mobile internet, or ever drive out of a coverage area or (c) you've bought TomTom or CoPilot because of (c).

Sorry Apple - fail. The Maps App in my 3-year-old Android Phone now has more useful features than the one in my iPad 3. If you're going to write your own maps, don't launch it until it's got all the key features.
I assume Tokyo is a major city (population: 13 million (city), 32.5 million people (metro area)) and Maps on iOS 6 is an epic fail for anyone living in the Japanese capital (Maps is even worse in other cities).
Sorry Apple, not updating to iOS 6 and not buying a new iPhone -even though I was looking forward to it- until this gets fixed.

The iOS 6 download for my iPad is crawling along at dial up speeds. 15 hours remaining

This isn't Apple's first major iOS release. You'd think by know they'd have the servers to handle it.

3D view

In reagards to Fly-over, since its only selected cites... does anyone know which ones are covered ?

Im trying to find them, but all get currently is the standard 2D Map (angled).

edit: I'm guessing this means, "Not available"

Out and about in a boat, eh? :D

It was hit-and-miss. It did that for me around 3:00pm (EDT) so I just stopped it. At 6:00pm I downloaded both the iPad and iPhone updates in about 20 minutes.

I like iOS 6, except for the maps. The new maps app is an abomination. I sort of wish I hadn't upgraded my iPad. At least then I would have been able to use that for finding stuff when my new iPhone arrives next week. Dang it.

Do Not Disturb

I think it's a bit of a UI "fail" that you first need to toggle Do Not Disturb, and then change settings underneath Notifications. Why not just put everything under "Do Not Disturb"? That said, it does look pretty nice.

ios6 podcast issue

I have upgraded my 3g to IOS6 ... don't laugh my 5 is on the way. Now when listening to podcast either streamed or downloaded the app closes turning off the audio when the phone locks itself. not really sure why maybe I need to change a setting somewhere? I typically plug into a stereo and listen via headphone jack now it shuts off every four minutes.
