That mockup is dubious. If the FaceID sensors could be housed in a bezel that thin, they already would be.

I’m guessing we get a smaller notch in 2020. And hopefully the fingerprint scanner.

Apple has prototyped at least one iPhone with a 6.7-inch display and no notch, with the TrueDepth sensors for Face ID instead housed in the thin bezel above the display, according to leaker and concept artist Ben Geskin.

Geskin created the rough concept below to visualize the alleged iPhone, which he said Apple plans to release in 2020.

This isn't the first time we've heard of a 6.7-inch iPhone. Earlier this year, noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple plans to release 5.4-inch, 6.1-inch, and 6.7-inch iPhones in 2020, all with OLED displays and 5G support. Kuo said the iPhones will sport all-new designs, but he did not comment on the notch.

Earlier this week, Kuo added that the 2020 iPhones will each have a new metal frame similar to the iPhone 4, suggesting the frame could have flat edges versus the round frame on the iPhone X and newer.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and Debby Wu have previously reported that Apple has considered releasing an iPhone with both Face ID and an in-display fingerprint scanner in 2020 if testing is successful, but the report cautioned that the fingerprint scanning technology might not be ready until 2021.

Geskin has had a few accurate leaks in the past, including front glass panels for 2018 iPhones that revealed the iPhone XR would have slightly thicker bezels than the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. However, until other sources corroborate this information, the rumor should be treated with some skepticism.

I am notch convinced.

This changes everything.

RIP Android.
Apple is like a hot chick that is useless, while Android is the cute girl that does everything. I don't think smaller bezels will kill Androids 80% global market share, keep dreaming buddy. Only thing that will change is the money in your wallet when you buy it

I guess you don't own or have ever used a 2018 iPad Pro
That’s a baseless speculation. I have used that device. It’s great. But the bezel on the iPad Pro is wayyy thicker than the one in that prototype. Not even close. The bezel in the prototype looks almost the same width as the L/R and bottom bezels on the iPhone 11 Pro. I’d be floored if they could cram all the sensors into a bezel that thin.

Eventually they’ll have advanced screen tech that allows sensors to live underneath it, but that’s a few years off.

The people whining about the 'bezel' are hysterical.

This looks great! I'm absolutely excited for the 5.4".

Android is fine. But do be aware that the vast majority of Android market share comes from dirt cheap or free phones in third world or emerging markets. Nothing to brag about.

Also, people who care about and understand tech and innovation talk about design, UI, and functionality, not market share. Hyundai has greater market share than Mercedes Benz. McDonalds has greater market share than Shake Shack.

So try not to spill anything in your Hundai after you go through the McDonald’s drive through while responding to me on your Android phone.

Looks good. Think I’ll finally upgrade from my 8 when this is out. The notch kinda bothered me when watching videos.

So the 5.4 is gonna have Touch ID only with no notch also , I can deal with that

How did you infer this?

I would assume all three phones will have FaceID as in this year. There was a mention of under the screen Touch ID possibly being included but may not be ready until 2021. I wouldn't count on any kind of fingerprint sensor in next year's phones with the exception of the rumored iPhone 8 rebranding.

This is what I’ve been waiting for. In an OLED and Pro Max version though. Thank you 😊

Haven't upgraded since the Jet Black 7+ and I won't until there's a full-screen iPhone. I bet if they do this next year, it'll give them more time before putting all this tech underneath the screen (which has been demoed already by other companies). That's the end goal.

This is the dream iPhone.

So what do Apple do, they shrink the 5.8” model. A size that was perfect for many & Apple’s supposed future direction when the X was released...SMH...

This could be worth the 3 year wait with an X.
You’ll be forced to choose a smaller or larger model. Damn you, Apple 😕

I’m all about that 5.4” iPhone. That rumour is the only thing keeping me away from buying an iPhone SE. I really hope that report is accurate.

5.4” OLED 2:1 iPhone with no notch would be perfect. Basically he exact phone I would personally design for myself, if I could.

If they can keep the bezel as thick as it is now, im so down
They can go thicker if they have to. The bezels are plenty small. They matter much less than the notch does. The notch is a UI disaster that never should have happened, and even once its gone we'll be be dealing with it for a decade after.

Cool, thank you for pointing that out. However the time and info alike will still be at the top (unless they make a change) and therefore you still lose space as everything has to be pushed down. No?
Exactly. We 5.8” users are the big losers here. There will be a noticeable difference between 5.8” & 5.4”.

Apple could’ve added an SE & kept the 5.8” instead of catering to the extremes - enlarging the Max & shrinking the current smallest model....So disappointing for people who hold onto iPhones for years & were backing on the 2020 as their next upgrade...

I don’t understand your point at all, but I can see that it is misogynistic.

It’s hardly a disaster. Most people don’t even notice it when they are using the phone.

(if true) this is a good compromise until everything can be place under the screen - I finished watching the Oneplus 7T webcast and even this design would be better than what we have

Even that is really ugly. A slightly larger upper bezel is light years better than any stupid notch or cutout. It just looks really stupid.

In the end I just hope we don’t end up in an “Apple TV remote” situation where it isn’t immediately apparent which end of the phone is up.

Upgraded to an iPhone 11 Pro Max at noon today, & have stress-testing its Camera Capture Performance ever since.

First, it "appears" Apple fixed the A11/A12 Performance Controller bug ... translation, it runs well when being pushed hard !

Second, it sets a new record in Mobile Burst Photography (for iPhones, & maybe ALL smartphones), up-to "44" Full-Res 12 Mpx photos per set @ 30 fps !
