This would be great for artists if it supported a digital pen with 2K pressure sensitive levels.

And ofcourse for any kind of sketching.

But alas I have no high hopes from Apple regarding this and I am focusing on Samsungs new Note series of phones and tablets instead..

I'd like to call it fake, but then again, every stupid rumor came true in the last keynote. An iWatch that will never do anything useful. An iPhablet that will bend from just wearing it in a pocket. New Apple products are increasingly unreasonable. So why not build a tablet that's too big to be a tablet and too small to be a laptop? Sure it wouldn't work for anything, but that doesn't stop the new Apple. I say it's confirmed. Huge tablets here we come.

It was rumored that the new iphone would bend? I don't seem to recall that.

Also, how is 13 inches not big enough for a laptop? If that's the case than dear old Steve Jobs made laptops that were too small.

Please don't make this just a bigger version on the 9.7". At least put some thought into it.

They set precedence with the iPhone 6+ using the extra screen real estate in a new way. I have hopes for this.

Yeah, nice call, I was going to say the same thing in response to the top quote. Apple has shown it’s OK with creating a different UI/UX with different sized devices. Plus, now with what we're seeing in Xcode, they’re providing all sorts of options to optimize the screen real estate.

I think if we see this device, it’ll have unique OS features, let alone, the possibilities you outlined with touch sensitivity, etc.

That A8x should have made its appearance in my 6 Plus or at least they should have clocked it faster (slower than 6, makes no sense) poor performance and graphics due to the higher resolution are starting to take a toll

I think its meant more to be carried around like a MBA, but without the MBA capabilities... I dont understand a 13" tablet running iOS...

For one thing, if it's light enough, it's a boon to people who like to consume digital media like photo heavy books, magazines, graphic novels, comics etc. The larger screen size will be much closer to what you experience with printed media. My guess would be that the weight will come out lighter than the original iPad.

The New, BIG iPad!

I would worry that an A8X on an iPad that big would give the performance of the iPad 3. Not good. Unless, of course, it is REALLY beefy! As for the name of the thing, no doubt now it will be the iPad Plus, not Pro.

iPad Pro to follow the MacBook line or iPad Plus to follow the iPhone line?

It won't run OSX if it's powered by an A# chip, I'm sure they can recompile OSX and applications for ARM but it doesn't make sense.

It might force them to throw out some of the useless eye candy that has been creeping into OSX the last few years, and stop making so much crap go on in the background that the whole 'user experience' suffers.

It does make a good benefit to those who do that, but I dont think developing a whole new product with that in mind is rational. Im sure apple has something up their sleeves, and as usual, they wont tell us until a week before its release

I hope Apple introduces this time some Productivity features and new stuff other than just a bigger version of its current ipad. Tablets sales are going down because there is no need to upgrade so often. I was fine with my iPad 2. No need to upgrade to just watch Netflix, web browsing, and other things that I can do with my phone. I ended up selling it and still waiting for a new features to buy a new tablet.

Nah, I can't fully agree. The retina display is something that will enhance the user experience, even if you are only watching Netflix and browsing the web.

But other than that, you have a point. Unless your iPad is starting to feel really slow and cumbersome there is no need to upgrade, and the iPad is simply holding up too darn good. I can't really see any reason for anyone to upgrade from the iPad 3 to the iPad Air besides the weight and slimmer size and for most that simply is not a good enough reason to do it.

Having a iPad Pro have to mean something, there needs to be some kind of enhance productivity software of some kind or something, otherwise they could just go with iPad Plus or iPad XL for that matter.. iOS is certainly better than Android in terms of getting apps optimised for the larger screen realestate, but the operating system itself is getting a bit long in its tooth.. The spacing on the home screen between the app icons and everything is just a stretched out iOS for iPhone and nothing more, which is quite sad considering how many years Apple have had to improve on it over the past years.

I'll buy it if Apple can get developers like Adobe on board. Give it enough power (quad-core A8X should be similar to MacBook Air in performance), enough RAM (if the Air is getting 2GB then this thing should get 4GB), a pressure and tilt sensitive display for using with a drawing stylus (yeah, graphic designers and illustrators still use stylus, hence Pro), multitasking for side-by-side apps, and some sort of manageable file system that ties in with iCloud Drive and it could be a great solution for creatives on the go. A USB port with an API for developers would also be fantastic, though unlikely, even if it supported only a few devices or required MFI certification. However I wish it was more like 11.9" instead of 12.9".

What if the iPad Pro and rumored new MacBook Air are actually the same device? When you dock the iPad Pro to the keyboard, the keyboard serves as an extra battery, upclocks the CPU on the iPad, and switches from an iOS looking interface to a Mac OS looking interface, complete with normal keyboard and mouse support. If you think I'm crazy, Apple has a patent for an iMac design that does something similar: When you grab the edges of the iMac, it senses the heartbeat in your hands and disengages the stand, allowing you to easily lower the iMac to a steep angle more suitable for touch. It also transitions the OS to Touch mode, with bigger UI elements for finger-based input. So it's not completely unheard of.

Good news…2K+ pressure sensitive pens (via Bluetooth 4) are already widely available for iOS.

so now all the silly people will ask "will it bend" etc.
Is the IQ really going down here? Isn't it enough how the media are overblowing it now, do we really need this in every thread from now on?
Come on people, grow up!

Yeah, big fat crayons. I want a real stylus with real pressure sensitivity. But knowing apple it will be a big iPad and nothing more.

So Xcode 6/iOS include Adaptive UI support for compact and regular layouts (iPhone and iPad in various configurations) so this will presumably be the large layout which doesn't currently exist?
