Rumored 'iPad Pro' and Companion Stylus Imagined in New Renderings

Come on, you should know the game plan by now. Apple will release a brand new feature on the top end iPad and then trickle it down a year later to the smaller iPads.

yeah! what's up with that? apple profits, right?

what they should clearly do is lax the oversight in their labor factories. that'll get the flagship features into the smaller versions all at once.

its a damn shame iOS cannot adapt to screen size (speaking for iPhone 6 and 6+)

i hate how you cannot carry more icons in the dock..

Wow... seriously? A guy literally just blows up a photo of an iPad you can buy today and claims it's a render of a 12" iPad, I bet most 13 year olds could do that but it wouldn't make front page news on Mac Rumors!

Why do renderings always have a disgusting amount of fingerprints, smears, grease and other gross things on it? We get, its a render and you want to make it look more "real", but I have never seen an ipad with that much gunk on the screen.

You must not have a girlfriend/wife then. My gf gets food and drink junk all over her laptop and iPad. Drives me crazy because it looks like she doenst care about the two $500 purchases she made.

Seen this suggestion on every post relating to the iPad Pro and Retina MacBook Air.

Apple have already got a MacBook/iPad hybrid that they released a few years ago: the MacBook Air.

How on earth is the MacBook Air a "MacBook/iPad" hybrid in any way? The MacBook Air is a thinner, more portable, less powerful version of the MacBook Pro (I own both), therefore its a thoroughbred laptop/notebook. I just can't see any MacBook/iPad hybrid characteristics in the Air at all.

Not seeing the point of an iPad 12" with iOS in its present form.

A big screen iPad, and thats it.

If iOS was made easier to work with multiple applications at once, maybe.

I've been wanting an iPad with a proper stylus since the iPad was first announced. Hell, since I first started using Brushes on my iPhone 3G, even. So these rumors have me super excited, because I've been researching the many many stylus based tablets and laptops that have been released the last few years and nothing hits that sweet spot for me, which is basically just an iPad with pen support. I like the simplicity, hardware, and software.

Anyway, one thing that has me skeptical about these rumors is the recent issue with the iPad Air 2, it's display tech, and 3rd party stylii. Apparently the new display tech totally broke support for most active stylii, and the manufacturers had no idea until it was too late. It seems odd to me that if Apple were really excited about this market, they would change display tech without even bothering to see if it impacted existing stylii.

On the flip side, maybe it was intentional to position their upcoming product. ;)

Anyway, I'm also encouraged by how much Apple has been marketing the creative potential of iPads, but then I remember that the aforementioned Brushes app was even featured in a keynote with Steve years ago, and still nothing has developed.

I'm trying to stay positive because I want it so bad. As it stands I feel there is huge market for art and note taking apps but it's almost a joke because stylus support is so poor. People are trying hard to make it work, god bless them, but it's a problem that needs a real solution from Apple.

again thank goodness for these mockups because I could have never imagined what a larger iPad nor a stylus would like. No wonder the terrorists hate us.

It's going to need clever palm rejection for the stylus at that size.

An iPad pro is a great idea, if only to run Procreate on a massive screen. :D

The day that Apple makes a stylus they have lost their way. I hope they NEVER EVER make a product that needs a stylus...

Provided this rumor is correct, it is about time that Apple shuns their hatred of the stylus and make it a first class feature.

First, a pro tablet requires handwriting capability, period. Sitting in a meeting and trying to type note on an onscreen keyboard is a fail. Having to drag a separate keyboard case or dock to type is also a fail (just get a laptop). Being able to jot quick notes on a tablet is needed for business.

Second, Apple has to get this right the first time because both Surface Pro and Galaxy Note products have several generations of stylus that have made them superlative features. Apple has to hit the nail on the head to make handwriting on an iPad as close to a match as writing with pen on paper. Personally I think Jobs dismissed the stylus because Apple couldn't make it work as close to pen and paper back in the day. Offering a lousy implementation is not acceptable considering how long it has taken Apple to embrace this feature.

Of course, this could all be a pipe dream from a fanboi wishing for a true stylus solution from Apple. Also this would almost be the only reason I would consider buying an iPad Pro because there is no need just for a larger iPad screen to make it a "pro" tablet.

Why do so many people repeat/believe this complete fallacy? The iPad had stylus available for it during the 1st generation, and the current generation of stylus for iPad have a 2000+ pressure sensitivity level that is comparable to Wacom Cintiq tablets.

Steve Jobs dismissed the stylus for the original iPhone presentation because that was the navigation standard most people were familiar with for devices that didn't have a physical keyboard..example, the Palm Pilot. Jobs wanted to make sure people understood that Apple was leaving that outdated standard of navigation behind.

The idea that Apple was against stylus for other purposes is simply not true.

So short sighted. If this is going to be a "pro" device, it needs a stylus. The art world would rejoice if it was pressure sensitive glass surface, but if not - a pressure sensitive stylus would be second best. Rumored to be sold separately, so its not like you are forced to buy it if you have no need.

I would pray they come up with a slick way to tote the stylus if one is indeed coming. Have a slot it slides into or something.

Do you use a Pen when writing, or a brush when painting.

Or do you dip your finger in ink and paint like a caveman who has not discovered humans can use tools to do many things better than they can with their bare hands?

Personally, I feel everything has it's place.

If you just want to stab at large icons to consume content, then sure, use your finger.
If you wish to get creative, then tools will help you product better work easier.

The ONLY purpose for a stylus is fine manipulation in editing programs like a photo editor or etc. NOT a single program Apple has ever produced has needed a stylus for a iOS device either. NONE. I have a Wacom tablet and use it for some photo shop editing.

I can't see Apple creating a device for a very specific genre. A mobile device like a iPad lacks the system to do real hardcore editing anyway. That is why 27" iMacs exist where you can sit at a desk and work. I don't know why people feel they need a monster tablet that the tablet form factor was NEVER intended to be a work platform in this area. Some areas sure most certainly but... To each his own. I sure don't want one...

Why the hell does the bezel need to be proportionally bigger? These supposed "artists" are pretty useless and lack imagination and common sense.

I don't get the giant bezel either... A bezel for a device used to what many think it will be for I get but the one in the pics is too big...

A 12.9" screen would essentially be very close to the form factor of an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper…not exactly an unusual form factor. Combine that with Apple's expertise in creating thinner and lighter form factors and it's an obvious winner. The only real barrier to people liking it is the weight, and Apple has erased most of that barrier already.

The stylus won't glow.

Hm. 12 inch iPad? 12 inch MacBook? Anyone wondering if Apple might do a laptop/tablet hybrid like the Surface? Starting to wonder, because the leaked MacBook photos only showed the 'screen'.

That would be amazing but I doubt Apple can pull it off this year, unless iOS is capable of running on intel as well.

Can you imagine how great of a device this would be if it functioned as an iPad while undocked and as a full-blown MBA when docked?

The Surface line almost nails this, the problem is that the Windows Modern environment is still lacking in functionality, however as far as form factor is concerned, I believe Microsoft has struck gold.

Incase you haven't noticed in the last 30 years, Apple is a big time supporter of the creative fields, creating hardware and software with them in mind. You are again - very short sighted - with the future and use of the a pad. Wacom and the like are in business for a reason.

I find that the stylus has its purposes in several areas.

1) Signatures for approval or purchases with credit card. I hate using a finger to sign something.

2) Drawing with a finger can sometimes be challenging, especially with big hands.

3) Writing notes - I find it easier to write notes and translate it to text than typing something on the phone or iPad.
