- Mac mini updates, including one based on Mac OS X Server

A no-brainer since a number of internet server farms already use them.

Could this mean for the server one:
- Low-power dual-core Xeon
- 8GB RAM
- On board RAID 1 (or 0)
- 7200RPM HDDs as standard (or even a 10,000 RPM blade HDD)
- Dual gigabit ethernet as standard

I would hope so!!!!

...I reckon we'll have to wait until Spring 2010 before we see Quad Core processors and possibly a BTO Blu Ray drive...
Why do people keep on saying this? There is no other quad-core processor that will be coming from Intel between now and next spring other that today's quad-core i7 Mobile. So, it's either now or never (practically). Next spring is when the Arrandale and desktop Clarkdale processors are being introduced and both of those are dual-core with integrated graphics.

Beyond that there is Gulftown a six-core processor for the Mac Pros and late next year (or maybe early 2011) comes Sandy Bridge which will offer architecture upgrades across both the mobile and desktop space.

maybe been mentioned but I would have thought that any updates to the extent thats being mentioned on the first page (2 redesigned items) would have been given a press event.

I can understand the rumours being that the 22nd is windows 7 day but I still think its going to be next week at the earliest.

Mac Mini - Home Server

A Mac Mini as a home server would be very interesting. If you think that Apple have just implimented home sharing within iTunes, i think they could be up to something here. ;)

I am the first who will piss on anyone who says: I expect nothing until 2010 <- who cares? Not me. Keep it to yourself instead.

when does Apple Store usually go down during update?

This may have already been posted (I've been reading a lot of threads today and can't remember everything) but the Apple Store is now showing 3-5 day delivery on all of the Mac minis. That's pretty strange as there is certainly no magic in those configurations and they shouldn't be constrained. Also, Amazon is now showing some availability on the iMacs whereas earlier they were limited to outsourcing to third-parties.

Something weird is definitely going on with Apple's inventory. They've either completely mismanaged their build-out prior to the holiday season or they have new products in the pipeline.

So, for later today I'm guessing that we might see price reductions of $100 on the Mac mini (starting at $499 versus current $599) and maybe a tweak on the MacBook configurations (slight chance of $899 entry-level). Beyond that, we should get quad-core configurations on the iMac in one or two more weeks (however, no iMac announcements today). This is my most optimistic forecast. Oh, and we'll probably see new Apple keyboards and mice/trackpads before the holidays.

if nothing today, then two prominent Apple-news bloggers, Gruber and Fake Steve, are going to have serious egg stains on their faces.

Apple would be insane to go into the holiday shopping season with their current line-up, given where the rest of the industry is going to be. They simply can't hold off any longer...supply has dwindled at many resellers, and the Christmas season fast approaches. Unless they want a miserable financial quarter (after their robust earnings yesterday), then they will release these suckers NOW.

FWIW, I think we'll see:

iMac: new re-design, new lower prices, iCore7 mobiles, SD slot, and a blu-ray option at the higher end.

MacBook: color options, new lower price ($799??)

Mac Mini: new prices, new focus, HDMI

Apple TV: higher capacity

MacBook Pro: new lower prices

Mouse: completely new, multi-touch

Keyboard: multi-touch trackpad, illumination

Remote: the new touch redesign we've been hearing about.

Headphones: new re-design

iPod Touch: the camera is ready, and FM radio is now here

isn't it fun to speculate?

I sense the approach of a legendary MR forum letdown today.

I haven't had money to waste on Macs for a while now. Will be interesting to see, none-the-less.

Here they come...

Agreed. Sandy Bridge I think may be when mobile quad-core will move down from the current $3xx.

I sense the approach of a legendary MR forum letdown today.
If there are no new products today…big letdown.

If there are new products today…big letdown ("Why isn't feature X in product Y?!").

Either way there will be a big letdown. :D

Keep an eye on Apple Store NZ

Apple stores usually go down starting from NZ then Australia, then Asia, Europe and then US. Once NZ goes down, every store is normally down within half an hour. That's exactly how it happened on a Tuesday night (here in Sydney, Aus) at about 11pm when the latest iMac was introduced. It wasn't a major update... they just bumped up the specs, did away with 17" completely, slashed the price by $100-$200 depending on configuration and the stand got slimmed down a tiny bit (although no-one seemed to notice that!).

Keep checking NZ store folks. If it goes down in the next couple of hours, you know it's gonna be the real deal.
