It is the one big difference between Apple and MS. Since most essentially make a conscious choice to buy a Mac, they are probably more technologically aware and want the newest thing.

Well of course Mac users are more technically aware, our hardware has been in PCs for years before we get it and our constant bitching about being so far behind is proof we are aware.

You must be doing those Columbian Apples.

The fact of the matter is this.

store.apple.com is still up.... there will be no updates today.

Think about this, why would Apple release something the day after their conference call? Never has Apple back-to-backed (from one day to another) releases or announcements or public statements or ANYTHING. They say what they have to see and then disappear back into the apple forest only to come back out at a later date with goodies... certainly not 24 hours later

Apple stores usually go down starting from NZ then Australia, then Asia, Europe and then US. Once NZ goes down, every store is normally down within half an hour. That's exactly how it happened on a Tuesday night (here in Sydney, Aus) at about 11pm when the latest iMac was introduced. It wasn't a major update... they just bumped up the specs, did away with 17" completely, slashed the price by $100-$200 depending on configuration and the stand got slimmed down a tiny bit (although no-one seemed to notice that!).

Keep checking NZ store folks. If it goes down in the next couple of hours, you know it's gonna be the real deal.

Well I'm gonna be up all night with a pounding headache and pushing F5 isnt that hard to push.

Why do people keep on saying this? There is no other quad-core processor that will be coming from Intel between now and next spring other that today's quad-core i7 Mobile. So, it's either now or never (practically). Next spring is when the Arrandale and desktop Clarkdale processors are being introduced and both of those are dual-core with integrated graphics.

Beyond that there is Gulftown a six-core processor for the Mac Pros and late next year (or maybe early 2011) comes Sandy Bridge which will offer architecture upgrades across both the mobile and desktop space.

Why would it be "Now or Never" - Apple may be inclined to hold off for a whole host of reasons.

Uh, just because the store's not down doesn't mean it's not going to happen!

It's not even 04.00 in Cupertino, so what the hell does the store not being down have to do with anything?

I'm not holding my breath for anything today, but I could conceive of the store going down at 10.00 Cupertino time at the same time as a press release is issued.

In my humble opinion the store not being down now means nothing.

There was a report they were flying in all the managers, could be they will introduce it to them and the public at the same time. I forget what day of the week that was suppose to happen. Just give me a good GPU and HDtv, could care a less about cores, 2 is plenty 4 is just more. Lets just pray Apple doesnt use the worst graphics in the business Intel integrated garbage, Yuck.

That's the specs for the previous MacBook.

Consider this, in the states Microcenter has been aggressively discounting that model by as much as $150 off its price. They don't do that out of the goodness of their heart. It was seriously under spec at its original price and would make a great bottom priced white Mac at 699 with those specs.

Then they could offer improvements over that at different price increments

I sold my imac last week because of the rumours of new one coming out this week, I didn't want to lose even more money on it with another gen coming out. Im going to buy a mac pro next year when the new gen comes out.

Because over the last few years, this is the time the store goes down if there are Tuesday updates

Well, if nothing is announced today I think I'm going to order my 13" MBP tomorrow anyway, on the basis that if Apple is going to do anything before Christmas, it'll be within the next 3 Tuesdays (including today),which would allow me to return mine within the 2-week period (no restocking fees for us in the UK :) )

A Mac mini with preloaded OS X Server could be beneficial to those who'd run server farms/co-located Mac mini installations.

I'd buy the "Magic Mouse", if it offered in BT and wired versions and have multi-touch scrolling.

Looking forward to new products, as my iBook is over four years old now and I want something new. A new Mac Mini could be tempting if the price is right. Will even consider the iMac, if the 24" is a decent price. Don't think I need a laptop however, the iBook will suffice for chatting and web surfing away from the desk for some time yet.

That's the part that gets me. A Mini pre-loaded with Server? I hope people realize just how hard it is to configure OSX Server on any computer. It's not something a typical consumer can do.

As long as you don't surf to any flash imbedded sites, the iBook is fine.;)

do you think Apple can move an update just because rumors coming out? Maybe they had planned to launch today, but as rumors came out yesterday, they will take next tuesday.

Dnd talk about that it will not take Gruber seriously about this not anymore unless it proves correct.
