I hear what you are saying. And in so saying, you identify as not the target market, IMO. You clearly know what a server is, and is for. If this Mini is targeted at the "home server" market, it's targeted towards those who don't know or care what a server is or does. "It Just Works" - but what does it do for Joe User that his PC/Mac does not already do?

People know the advantages of home storage. And I'd swap out my Ultra 5 for a Mac Mini, just for the power consumption and the space savings.

Gruber is a rat !

from now on, i will give no more credit to his words

Meh. I think Gruber just missed it by a week or two. He's usually much better with his predictions than he is with his timing.

Perhaps they are planning a media event post-Win7? If they are, invites will trickle out today.

Also going by rumors over the years, the rumored release dates can be earlier than the actual release dates, while the rumored details are usually accurate.

well, it's like saying... "I can confirm that Apple will release new products... one day soon!"

then he should keep his mouth shut

because everyone can go with this kind of announcement...

chill down. the clock is 5AM in Cupertino - if there is an update, it will be 10AM, just as when keynotes usually be arranged.

why would Apple work at night? stupid bastards.

When Apple releases products without any kind of event, they usually do it around this time via their online stores.

When they have a special event to announce products, the stores go down later and come back up after the event has finished.

Just saying.... :)

Because on days when Apple doesn't have a media event scheduled, they release new products at 8AM EST to take advantage of the day's news cycle and get maximum exposure.

No updates today. Probably none this week. Any update or announcement that goes up against Windows 7 will immediately get buried.

This is my feeling too. But I disagree that any Apple update will be buried by Win7.

wouldn't be suprised if products are released thursday to take some steam out of the windows 7 release.

Loads of people seem to be saying this, but if we're honest, isn't it likely to be the other way round - any products that Apple release on Thursday are likely to get totally lost under all the Windows 7 coverage?

Windows 7 has been getting coverage for almost a year and everybody already knows all about it or has already used it.

It's a non-event.

Doesn't make much sense to release something the same day as your competitors. Your message will get diluted by theirs. I still think Apple should launch beforehand even if stock is not available.. then Apple will get a head start on the coverage as well as getting in on the Microsoft coverage.

Still think anything announced by Apple on Thursday is going to have to be revolutionary to steal any thunder. "Look, we just made our crap mouse as good as MS and Logitech ones have been for years" plus a few spec bumps and new aesthetics just isn't going to cut it.
